***** - The Tesla doesn't even come close to the design of the Benz. Maybe a crappy C-Class. But its cheap, go sit in one. The handles, panels and everything is just cheap. Hollow sounds, tacky feel. I'd rather go S-Class over the Tesla anyday. They aren't really competitors. The S-Class again is beyond anything the Tesla can touch when it comes to technology (user tech) and luxury. Telsa luxury is equivalent to a C-Class

I own a Tesla, I know what I have. The Tesla is not a classified as a luxury car, it is merely in the price range because of it's other features and that it is electric. Mercedes tech is pretty good, but Tesla is ahead of everyone on that right now. For luxury, I'd take a Benz anyday, but a Tesla's materials aren't bad. They're not extravegant due to the price of the powertrain and battery. They had to cram as much luxury as possible without inflating the price to crazy levels and barely did so, so I applaud Tesla. All I need to be happy is leather seats and a real wood dash, and both cars can provide that. Who needs seat massagers? The funny part is that Mercedes owns 10% of Tesla, and they take parts from each other's assembly lines for their cars.

bob Given that the S550, at least to me, is a car you're driven around in - which I have no intention of doing - I'd go with the RR Autobiography. That said, the S550 is probably a better bang for bucket if you plan on driving it on streets only, as the interior is above and beyond the RR.

Forget about rotating tweeters for a second, and let's remember the heart of any car is the engine. The P90D is the ultimate driving luxury lifestyle. It's single gear motor outperforms the S550 7 speed transmission in performance and needs no expensive spark plugs, oil or filter changes = less visits to the dealer. It's blows past the 550 with 0-60 in 2.8 sec- a world record for it's class, and without rude noise so you can actually enjoy that $5000 audio upgrade- aaaahhhh! That's what we call redefining the meaning of luxury in the Post-Tesla Era. The P90D hugs the road like it's on rails, not your body, which is more important. And as for luxury- can the 550 refuel itself in the privacy of your garage for FREE? (solar system option). No. You have to resort to random seedy pedestrian gas stations where you have to always shell out enough funds to buy 21 cappuccinos.The Dailmer boys need to put out an EV 550 fast or face continued sale declines. I actually drove my brothers S Class. I owned a new M-Class V8 and the X5 4.4. The S has superior coachwork and the best comfort in class for sure. The S-Class still has more class too. But yeah, I guess I'm kinda biased toward the Telsa because I'm a rebel problem solver type of guy. I'm proud it's made in California, and I feel like this brand gives the middle finger to OPEC. Plus I also feel amazed by the many technical achievements beyond the fact it's electric, like no oil changes, tune ups, band changes, transmission, oil lines, oil filters, fuel injection crap which I spent $$$$thousands on repairs with my BMW and Benz.

Your Mercedes gets only 17 city / 26 highway. You sure it's better than the Model S? Seems like a piece of shit to me. Mercedes can last a while, but you have to fill that car up on a frequent basis.

I'm about 75% leaning towards a Model S. I do find it funny that everyone talks about filling up ICE cars and not Battery powered cars. You have to plug in/refill Tesla cars even more often than ICE cars. The big difference is you have your own charging station at your home (well most do).
