The previous gen 1.6L four cylinder was co-developed with PSA Peugeot; the Prince engine. It's still in use in Peugeot and Citroën cars, but I'm pretty sure the current 2.0T engine is the same BMW engine used in the 3 series etc, but modified for FWD transverse layout and the smaller engine compartment.

Correct. This mini has the BMW 2.0l B46 (B48) engine.

The power output is pretty underwhelming regardless of whether it is a twin turbo or a twin scroll. 189 HP from a 2 litre turbo is probably one of the lowest output out there, even when measured from the wheels.

Kevin Cheung yea they downgraded it for the mini. In other BMW products the engine makes 240+ HP. In the JCW model the engine will make about 220 HP.

It's a dual scroll turbo charger, it doesn't have two turbochargers. I think that would be very rare on a 4 cylinder engine.

Now I know why they say never buy an automatic Mini.. it doesn't know which gear it should be in and screams when it should shift and shifts when it should hold off.. definitely going manual only.

Nathan: I'm planning to order a new 2015 Mini here in a few weeks, but I wanted your opinion on options. I want the JCW model (because why not get the fastest go-kart you can get, right?!). However, the estimated build times are screwing with me. I can get an automatic JCW delivered in June. I've never had a manual, but so many people say to get it in the Mini and I wanted to try and get one. But they aren't even taking orders for a manual JCW until June... so it's going to take like 4-6 months compared to 1-2... I can get the Cooper S in a manual in the same time as getting an automatic JCW. But if I can get a JCW in the same amount of time, is just the manual worth it? The JCW automatic is faster, but obviously is probably isn't AS fun as a manual... What's your thoughts on each model, and each transmission? As much info as you can give will help in making my decision, and awesome video!!

Mine measured 213 bhp and 226 lb/ft. BMW do underrate their figures somewhat !

I enjoyed the review. I drove a mini before getting a 2009 gti which I had flashed with APR. My only complaint with the mini at that time was the limited visibility and the mechanical reports which have since changed. I would like to try it again as it was a good feeling car. I wish you had tested the manual tranny because I still shun automatics yet I know the launch is more consistent.

I have only driven a Mini once, back in 2007. It was fun. But $30k fun? Even if it's a crapload better, I just don't think so. Really fun little cars, but that price is just too much. I personally would buy a used one, that had the previous owners money splashed all over it with those Mini blingy bits. :D Probably won't ever happen, since I have kids, and like motorcycles. No room in the car. No room in the garage.
