I love this entire concert and have returned to it many times. But, man-o-man, when they belt out Oklahoma I well up. How can so many world class musicians and singers live in one small desert community!!!? I know the reason and it makes me so very thankful I'm a part of it. ALWAYS uplifting, inspirational, and confidence building... God is at the helm! Th

In listening to soloists sing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, I have never heard a more beautiful voice than Laura Osnes. I have heard one other one that is pretty much equal, Sissel's. Beautiful voice.

As wonderful as this Conference organ is...and the history and story of the tree from which the wooden case is made from...organist Richard Elliot performs and showcases this organ with such melodious sounds you just don't hear in Conference or Music & the Spoken Word, and I LOVE IT! This guy is so brilliantly talented. Laura Osnes has the voice of an angel and sings beautifully with the MOTAB Choir, Orchestra, and Conductors. This truly is excellent uplifting world class entertainment!

I wish to express my gratitude to the Mormon Pioneers for their example of courage, faith, hope and charity. These are the characteristics of those who have taken upon themselves the name of Jesus Christ. Your generosity and sacrifice knew no bounds and until the end of our posterity their steps will guide our paths as missionaries and witnesses of Christ's love.

This was my first Pioneer Concert to attend and it was so moving and wonderful being with family and friends, especially being able to see my 2nd generation LDS daughter singing in thee Choir made my heart within me swell. The Orchestra and Choir are First Class. Everyone was moved and elevated to a higher level of appreciation and gratitude for our many blessing. Laura was amazing and fit in so well with the Choir and Orchestra. We were all touched and she and her husband were shown appreciation at the end of the last performance with "God Be With You." I especially loved the arrangement of the "Handcart Song," by Sam Cardoon who was also responsible for the music in the wonderful documentary "Meet the Mormons."

Whew, that first song was hugely unique - The Magnificent 7. A group of American's who liberate a small rural Mexican Village from a horrible bandit leader and most died in doing so. So the the moral courage of that incident and the moral courage of pioneers fleeing a country that had gone bigoted on them only to reunite with them and become what some now call "Super Americans."

My wife's birthday is Pioneer Day in Utah, July 24. It's pretty cool to have the whole state celebrate her day!! Frankly, her birthday is the only valid reason for the celebration. The "pioneers" were (IMO) brainwashed, zealot dolts and should not be celebrated---even though my ancestors were among those very pioneers. ;)

Laura Osnes was marvelous for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas program. But there is something in me that wants to see an LDS singer at our Pioneer Day Concerts. It is a Latter-day Saint legacy, and I would ten-times rather see a no-name LDS singer sing about our heritage. This is one concert which I feel should not cater to Broadway singers and show tunes, but rather to our own heritage.

I understand what you are saying and your "tinge of disappointment." But consider this: if every artist who appeared at Temple Square was a Mormon, imagine the numbers of us internet/youtube searchers who would never find these amazing uploads. I have major theological issues with LDS ... but I love, LOVE their music/uploads!
@Glen.Danielsen8 жыл бұрын
Hi CatsJams and gamalieli! Yah, we are in agreement. And I think I did not make my own idea very clear. My tinge of disappointment was only because that particular celebration - the Pioneer Day Celebration - is a very personal one for Latter-day Saints. It is a day of remembrance that recalls for us the sacrifices and pioneer resilience of a persecuted people. Crossing the plains, hundreds dropped dead and were buried along the way in shallow graves. It's just not appropriate, I think, to have someone to headline the celebration who does not specifically share in the heritage of those pioneer saints. By contrast, the Latter-day Saint annual Christmas celebration almost always has a non-LDS guest artist. And you guys are right! They are always an illustrious part of the events. I am hoping that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir president might consider either Sarah Brightman or Lea Salonga as guest artists for future Christmas programs. Thanks again for replying to me, and God bless!
@Glen.Danielsen6 жыл бұрын
gamalieli Right. That is what we do with our LDS Christmas celebrations, where we invite guest stars. But Pioneer Day honors a legacy that is particular to Latter-day Saints. We do it a disservice when turn it into a Broadway-centered event.

What GLORIOUS music! One concern. Doesn't Mac Wilberg EVER smile? He is always scowling. Is he suffering from terminal seriousness? Apparently he never read Spencer Kinard's book, The Worth of a Smile.
