Special guest artist Alex Boyé, along with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square present “Music for a Summer Evening,” their annual concert held in conjunction with community-wide Pioneer Day celebrations. The concert, held on Friday and Saturday, July 14 and 15 in the Conference Center, was conducted by Mack Wilberg, music director of the Choir and Ryan Murphy, associate music director.

Alex Boyé has to be the most powerful guest performer The Choir has performed with. Talk about being a pioneer. He displays a strength (a power within) that just isn't seen today. Some call it passion, but I call it pure testimony and trust in a Savior and Father who share the gifts of Heaven with we mortals. Alex Boyé reaches deep within to display what is possible.

I am now a fan of Mr. Boye. I particularly liked the fact that in many years of watching guest singers at Mormon Tabernacle Pioneer events Mr. Boye taught me at least one previously unheard of African-American spiritual. I was drawn in by his personal story. I am amazed to learn that Mr. Boye was brought up in the local authority up the road from where I currently live here north of the river Thames, London..

The first time I heard the opening music from the film "The Big Country," it blew me away! The orchestra did a great job of it. Excellent choice for an opening number. The choir was in top form, and Alex Boye' gave excellent performances too!

First time I saw Alex Boyé was at the Scott Trade Center in St. Louis in 2009. He sang "I want Jesus to Walk with Me". I enjoyed seeing the choir in person my one time. I also enjoyed that CD "Come thou fount of every blessing"

I was so excited to see this performance live in person and it was EPIC! I could watch this again and again. The last two songs were my favorite two songs from The Lion King, and "Circle of Life" was especially spectacular. Such a perfect song choice.

I love these concerts. The choir is awesome, but PLEASE stop wearing dresses from the 70s. It makes all the ladies look so old. Let someone younger select the dresses.

Good point. I have a few friends in the choir and they say that the dress designers are very old and have been there forever. (Bless their hearts) When they retire, I think you'll see some new designs.

Natalie Warren he was only dressed up for a couple of the songs and the choir wouldn't have been able to do a costume change because they were on stage the entire time.
