Love the work you do, this is what a man can be capable of doing when he decides to do something with his life. I'm trying to teach my son the value of learning how hard work and attention to detail can take you far in life. Much respect sir. I drive one of these Promaster City vans as a plumber, very small but it is a fun drive at times. I'm in need of a door mirror. I broke the passenger side on mine in a icy alley when I slide into a full and frozen solid compost bin lol

Thanks, my mom always taught me to work hard and there is no sense in doing something if you are not going to do it right. I liked this little guy. It was super useful when I had it and the gas mileage was great. I don't have a mirror, I actually had to buy one for this. Try car-part.com it is small enough that if you find one out of your area, it might be worth it to have it shipped if the price is right. Thanks for watching!

@@vehcor It really depends on the social assignment of the person. Some people have the means of doing this and do it, but you still need all the equipment (camera, shop, capital,...). This is beyond the acquisition means of the average person. Do you really think that most people living in an underdeveloped country would be able to afford this equipment as well? However, many people do have the privelege of having means to have opportunities and living in a free country like this, yet smoke weed all day and complain that his issues are because of his race or gender or whatnot.

Thanks, I try to make them as good as new or better. I don't like to cut corners. Why do a job if you are not going to do it right, right? It is really fun when I go to sell the vehicle because the buyers look for imperfections to deal on the price and they can never find any. I have a couple months left of small jobs but by spring there will be a big job with the new format. Hope you enjoy that, it might be a long one. I'm currently working on it now. Thanks for the support, see you next month.

Rockers in general don't like to move and are not easy to get at for replacement. It seems they are becoming more popular in getting damaged by weak suspension designed to break away in an accident. All the Terrains fought me too. There is no good way to pull or replace it that works on everything, so it is trial and error. It can be the most time consuming part of the job but with some patience, it can be conquered. Thanks for watching!

Hello northern neighbor. Making money is nice but I really enjoy what I do, I would rather do the job right and break even than hack it together just to make a buck like so many people are worried about these days. I try to reply to every comment and if I keep seeing the same kinds, it gives me ideas for new videos. It also helps me fix some of the stuff my viewers don't like or lets me know what they want to see. Hopefully they are improving. Good to see this one. I have a dark red metallic Promaster City SLT 5 passenger wagon in which I T boned a 90’s Dodge Durango which turned left in front of me at an intersection. Not hard enough to pop the airbags, but hard enough to require replacement of both fenders and the hood plus everything in front of the motor. I had only 4,000 miles on it. The repair cost almost $11,000 to do. They did an excellent job. They had to remove the motor to get to an d repair an apron. It took almost 6 months to get it back. The hard part was getting the parts. Now I have an idea what they had to do to fix it. Thanks.

With all those airbags deployed what does it take to make the vehicle see that they have been repaired? I know some vehicles have a module that needs to be flashed, etc.. Also, what about the seat belts? Can the sensors be reused if not damaged? I really enjoyed the music when watching the 02 Town Car.
@vehcor
@vehcor 5 жыл бұрын
This one required the module to be replaced as well as the driver seat belt retractor and the three air bags of course. Sensors typically do not require replacement unless they are damaged. Some modules can be reset like the one in the Towncar. The Towncar only required the seat belt and airbag. Thanks for watching.

You can make money on anything if you buy it at a good price. I am not a Fiat fan by any means but for a cheap commercial van, these things are not too bad. Over 30 mpg and pretty comfortable, minus the horrible road noise from the echo chamber cargo area. I did find a lot of uses for it while I had it and even thought about having one as a delivery truck for parts. Thanks for watching.

Seams like an unusual choice, did you get a smoking deal or already have a buyer? I’ve started using a oscillating saw with a carbide blade to cut panels in tight spots, works pretty good. Sorry I’m pretty excited about that oscillating saw thing, just disregard if you’re not interested.
@vehcor
@vehcor 6 жыл бұрын
It is a little unusual but according to the numbers it was a good buy, we shall see. I'll buy anything if there is a market, I have had box trucks before that sold quickly so I figured why not. I watched some videos on the oscillating saw, I never heard of that, I figured it would distort the metal similar to an air chisel. It would be good for the tight corners instead of switching to old, used, tiny die grinding discs to get in there. Thanks for watching and a little industry info, there is always something new to learn.
@Everythingisgoingtobealright
@Everythingisgoingtobealright 6 жыл бұрын
vehcor I’ve only been using the oscillating saw a couple weeks. So far it’s really cool, no distortion. If you try it be sure to get a saw with a variable speed trigger. I had a dewalt 110 volt for cutting drywall and stuff at home, it was around $100.

Great repair, it really looks like you took your time, but I could never buy a rebuild. I'm just too paranoid that the suspension geometry would be out of alignment. A friend had a Passat that was apparently square yet from behind it looked like it had independent rear wheel steering!
@vehcor
@vehcor 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I hear this a lot about not buying a rebuild. My answer is, "How would you know as long as it is done correctly?" The Passat could have been just a simple alignment or bent suspension part. They move salvage cars with end loaders and some times bend some stuff. I inspect all of my cars on a lift and have them aligned to avoid the four wheel steering issue even if the damage is no to the suspension, frame or unibody.

The passenger air bag was deployed and the entire dash pad has to be changed. In addition to that, it was easier to get to the repair area with everything out of the way. It ends up saving time in the long run as well as making for a better repair.

Thanks, the windshield was actually broken on the passenger side from the air bag. We did 90% over a three day weekend and the rest over the next couple weekends as fill in work. It needed the holes from the placards filled and the right door and fender had to be painted because of scratches, the new part matched perfectly. So about 6 (long) days total of working time.

I've watched some of your work and seen you sectioning b pillars and reinforcement and not once have I seen you do any kind of 3d measurements and icar and manufacturers require you to measure
@vehcor
@vehcor 6 жыл бұрын
I avoid sectioning as much as possible and replace entire panels but sometimes it is unavoidable. I thought you might take issue with backing or overlapping that gets edited out, or straightening panels, not the measuring. I can assure you all pieces are measured as they are pulled and installed. How else would you get them where they belong and be sure adjoining panels are aligned and straight? I'm not good enough to pull without measuring, nor do I want to try, because the difference of a mm can ruin a job or at least cause an addition of a lot of labor to repair. "Measure twice cut once", is the old saying I believe. The same goes for pulling and welding in this case. If you notice the time on the bottom, the videos are edited so the details that are easily missed are left out, some little bits of them make it like some pulling measurements between 4:05 and 4:18. The inner a pillar install measurements briefly made it at 5:48 (at which point you will notice a half hour missing before the next frame when the door was installed) lots of boring measuring and slight panel adjustment going on in that time, some of which is simply blocked because I'm between the work and the camera. Other times like this one, cross measurements are done across the inside of the vehicle and blocked by the car itself. There was also some measuring going on at 8:45 for the upper rail. I guess you did catch me, I didn't measure the outer a pillar panel when I put it in but there is no need, the inner panels were aligned and the gaps and holes in the outer panel aligned with those. Had I gotten that piece in the wrong place, only the door gap at the bottom of the door would have been affected and since I fit the door, I had nothing to worry about. I didn't realize people wanted to see so much detail, videos are recommended to be 3 minutes in length and I'm at 10 or more, to include all unedited videos, even in time lapse, is hours. I try to make videos that give an idea of the work involved while still being interesting. While my critics may want to see it all, the general audience does not and that is for whom the videos are intended. Most people watching will never work on a car so the detail is lost on them. If your issue is with the lack of laser measuring tools for 3D models, I'm sorry, this is done old school with line measurements across varying planes and axis, which is still acceptable to ICAR. Maybe some day my hobby will turn into a business and I will invest in those fancy tools to make my life much easier but until then, I will continue to disappoint, sorry.
