I have a 2014 5.7L Ram Sport, 8-speed transmission, with a different exhaust and it reacted to ERS just as you said. Now the exhaust sounds more even, less drone and I like the way the transmission reacts with the engine more in the ERS mode. Downshifting is more dominant. I don't understand why the owners manual doesn't mention MDS disengaged in ERS mode. Wish Dodge would make a more specific manual. Clearly, there is more happening in ERS mode than just gear limiting!! Thanks for the video.... Makes me love my truck even more!!!!

The only way to permanently disable mds that I know of is with a aftermarket tuner. Otherwise shift to 6 or 8 depending on transmission (the tranny will continue to shift up and down on its own like normal) and it will disable it until you stop and put it in park. Or, push the tow/haul button (also disables overdrive). The ECO light can be turned on and off via the EVIC control cluster. But turning off the ECO in the cluster only turns off the green ECO light on the dash it does not actually disable mds just the notification light. The purpose of the ECO light is so you can tune your driving to get more efficiency out of the engine.....if you care about that.... but if you were looking for mileage maybe buy a Prius. Unfortunately Chrysler/Fiat has the worse mds system of any manufacturer.

I have a 6spd 14 ram 5.7L express blackout edition and all I do is hit the - button. whatever gear it is in shows up and then hitting + or - changes it. the number displayed is the highest gear it will shift into. also the 6spd skips 3rd unless you have it on 3 in manual. only gear that will top out and shift on its own is 1st. 1st will top out and automatically shift into 2nd. also tuners only void the warranty if they A) find out about it and B) can prove the tune was the cause if an issue. there is an act that protects you against warranty denials unless they can prove the modification caused the issue.

Hello, I own a 2014 ram the same as yours. Wanted know, did you program the temperature gauges to come out in center digital screen?

You can set up the layout anyway you want. Go into one of the settings option in the display and it'll give you like a display layout option or something of the nature and and go from there.

Mine didn't show the ECO display but I found it in the settings. Go to Apps, Settings, Display and then scroll on down to "Fuel Saver Display in Cluster" and check the box next to that and the ECO light will appear. A little FYI.....I was running 87 octane when I first bought the truck and then read in the manual that the Hemi needs 89 or high octane or the computer will have to compensate by changing the engines timing which causes the engine to hesitate a bit. I put 89 in it and it made a big difference in performance and the Hemi ran much smother on start up and in acceleration.
@bigbaby5238 жыл бұрын
I need to start putting 89 in mine. I've been running 87 in it since I got it and I have about 3,000 miles on it so far.
@lancelotlink39078 жыл бұрын
I started at about 3000 miles myself and am kicking myself for waiting so long. A Hemi is a high performance engine with computers that make it street friendly. BTW it took a tank full of 89 before the computer figured out that it didnt have to adjust the timing anymore. I'm just happy I finally read the manual and the light bulb went off in my head. That cant be good for the engine especially on a cold start. I put a Wix XP oil filter and some Castrol EDGE Titanium in it and I think she forgave me lol. BTW that Castrol EDGE Titanium is the suppose the better than Mobile 1 according to some tests I read.
@bigbaby5238 жыл бұрын
+Lancelot Link haha hopefully I can get mine to forgive me too!! Do you get better mpg when running the suggested 89? I'm curious to see if the 87 to 89 makes any difference and I'm gonna have to give that Castrol edge a try.
@lancelotlink39078 жыл бұрын
I didnt actually figure out my MPG but after I started using 89 I did notice that the gas tank seemed to last longer. That and the smoother running Hemi was all I needed to never go cheap with my baby again. BTW the Castrol EDGE Titanium is better than the plain EDGE oil and the Wix XP is made specifically for synthetic oils. With both you are suppose to be able to go 15,000 between oil changes. I'm gonna only do 10,000 though. Just took it for a 20 mile freeway ride and that oil makes a night and day difference. So smooth after I replaced the factory oil.

my 2012, 6spd has an option to shut the eco off in the menu on the dash cluster. just scroll and turn it off, 8 cyls firing all the time, or tow/haul mode stays in 8 all the time as well. nice vid though, good to know when I upgrade to a newer ram.

Nice video and I have the same truck , looking for an exhaust. I am a little confused though. You said in your previous videos you never hear a drone. Now in this video you say there is a drone at 30 + MPH. Please explain
@koreywaldrop31429 жыл бұрын
I only hear it drone around 30 when its in 4 cylinder mode. When that's shut off you have no drone until you hit nearly 70. That's why I hate the cylinder deactivation so much. It only drones on highway. Anywhere else is barely noticeable.
@timmypstyle9 жыл бұрын

@koreywaldrop31428 жыл бұрын
Yes you can do it all day every day. I do and it runs perfect. It's better cause it breaks in evenly instead of 4 cylinders being in better condition the the rest cause they are never used. It's better for the engine in the long run if you understand the mechanics behind an engine.
@dodgedaddyBouge8 жыл бұрын
never thought of that. I usually just leave it, let it go eco. Is the power more there for say when you romp it?
@koreywaldrop31428 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say the power increases. It's just more responsive to throttle input.
@dodgedaddyBouge8 жыл бұрын
+Korey Waldrop that's what I was kinda saying lol, pull both abs fuses and turn off traction control and you can feel a difference as well
@bigbaby5238 жыл бұрын
You get the same amount of power because when you hit the accelerator it kicks in all 8 cylinders. The ride is just smoother when you turn mds off. It stops switching between 4 and 8 cylinders at weird times and is more responsive.

how in the world are you getting 21-22 mpg?? help me out here... I have a 2016 Ram Rebel 5.7 Hemi and I get 15 mpg with eco and all highway driving. Did the exhaust system help with you mpg?? any advise would be great.
@koreywaldrop31428 жыл бұрын
I don't get 21-22 believe me. Highway I'm averaging around 14-16 and in town about 10-11 and I always deactivate my MDS everywhere I drive. And nice purchase. I would kill to get my hands on a rebel.
@Matt-tt4cu8 жыл бұрын
+Nabil Alhadi I get 20-23mpg all the time on the highway. I get 14-17 in the city/suburb (depends on traffic). - 2014 Sport CC Hemi, 3.92 4x4. I also have all the options so my truck is weighed down big time. 100% stock. I drive between 50-70mph on the highway 90% of the time and use cruise control as much as possible. Drive it nice as much as possible. Avoid flooring it between stoplights, but don't accelerate up to cruising speed too slowly. Coast as much as possible. Bleed off speed uphill and regain speed downhill (if you get good at this, it REALLY helps). Make sure your tires are properly inflated. And when your air filter gets dirty, change it. Tire inflation and dirty air filters are the 2 biggest mechanical issues causing poor MPG. But bad driving technique is hands down the #1 reason behind poor MPG. V8's get killed on fuel economy when it's cold (below 40-45F) in general, so in the winter, plus the shitty winter blends of gas the midwest and east coast get, it makes it even worse. Just gotta deal with it if you want a big truck.
@ambucar18 жыл бұрын
+Matt 85 thanks for the info. I've been reading in some forums to inflate the tires to the same for front and back. My owners manual says to keep front at 55 and rears at 45. Some say 55 all around would improve mpg. What is your thoughts on that? How bout a cold air intake.... sounds goofy and I ain't no young kid either but if it works I'll do it.
@Matt-tt4cu8 жыл бұрын
+Nabil Alhadi I would go by what the tires say. Your tires have their max pressure rating displayed on the sidewall. Over-inflation will cause faster tire wear, and be more prone to a blowout. Also, as you drive, tires heat up, which causes the air pressure to increase a little bit too, so make sure your hot pressure isn't too high. Cold air intakes are usually slightly inferior to a short-ram intake because of cost. They are typically more expensive - because they have more material cost - and often do not really out-perform a quality short-ram intake. The easiest/most inexpensive upgrade for the intake system would be dropping in a high quality air filter into the stock airbox (like a K&N), however most high quality filter require maintenance (just like the filters that come with aftermarket intakes, K&N or a different brand), which if you don't perform, they will become ineffective and will start choking the engine. With the Hemi Rams, it seems like many people just do a drop-in, or they get a Vararam intake system. I'm still using the OEM intake and filter - but I'll be dropping in a K&N filter when my original needs replacing, as I know that will not void my warranty.

MDS and ECO are not related. ECO appears when you're driving in an economical fashion. Had a 2014 quad cab 6 speed with a tuner to disable MDS and ECO still came on. And now I have a 2015 sport crew untuned. The only way to disable MDS is to turn off with a tuner or manual gear shift. Turning off the ECO display in the radio only stops the eco light from appearing.

it usually pops up when you're cruising at steady speeds and switches to 4 cylinders to help with mpg. All 8 cylinders are engaged again when you hit the accelerator. It's never on when you're accelerating or at a stop.
