slimjimihendrix it's a good move but didn't had the legs to finish. When he attacked he opened a gap of 3 to 4 bike lengths to Valverde. Where Stybar is at the wheel of Valderde, he has a lot of chasing to do. During that day Stybar had the better legs to chase a thunderous attack by GVA and countering it right after he chased him.

Valverde screwed this up... there is no way he should have done work in the last 10km. He was the strongest climber in the race, so he should have cared less if someone came up. Anyone that comes up had been dropped on the hills earlier so why worry about them coming back?

nope. Valverde might be stonger climber but the finish was no climb - that's a short steep ramp which allows Štybar and Van Avermaet to just sprint and they're better than Valverde in that. Van Aert, van der Poel as well, cyclocross guys are insane in this.
