+aquateen77723 Thanks for the comment. I got black with a black interior, but I liked just about every color -- especially red, white, and silver. That blue looks good too. I guess it's hard to go wrong. Let us know about your purchase after you make it...

Everyone should own a Toyota Camry. There's a reason it's the best-selling car in America. No other mid-size sedan deserves to exist. The Camry is a perfect car.

It was interesting to come back and watch this video. I've owned my '17 Camry SE for a couple years, which was the last before the update for the '18 model year. I have to agree that the ride is just exceptional and compared to the Chevy HHR I had before it, it felt like I upgraded to luxury. The only thing I wish I had was those infotainment upgrades with navigation, just hearing instructions through Bluetooth audio doesn't beat looking at a map.

Another great video from Alex. I just purchased a 15 SE model after my 07 model had some bad battery cells. the 07 was loaded with everything ergonomically placed and it was nice. I didn't like the lag when the gas engine kicked in and the floating ride. The 15 SE eliminates most of the lag with a more linear power curve and the suspension is much sportier; the sport seats are the best of the Toyota vehicles. I do miss some amenities from my 07 (I was considering the XLE also but it was to soft and the SE price point was better) but overall I am very satisfied with the new 15 SE model.

Alex, I really enjoyed your reviews. They are very comprehensive. Are you planning on reviewing 2015 Subaru Legacy? Legacy seems like a competitor to Camry/Accord with the competitive MPG/reliability/reputation with standard AWD which is rare in the mainstream mid-size segment.
@AAutoBuyersGuide10 жыл бұрын
I hope so but I don't know when. The Legacy is smaller than the Camry and Accord and MPGs will never be as high as the FWD only models but if you want AWD at a reasonable price, it is your only option. The Fusion and 200 offer AWD but only in their top trims.

While payback can certainly be important when considering a hybrid purchase, I am becoming more concerned about carbon emissions. When discussing hybrids, it might be useful to viewers if you were to mention carbon emission ratings. I do enjoy your reviews - very well done!
@Lucky8s9 жыл бұрын
Why not just buy smaller cars like the Honda Fit or Toyota Corolla that are just as eco friendly? And if that isn't enough for you, you can always go for a pure zero emissions electric car.
@Trades468 жыл бұрын
+WuWei Xu Because not everyone wants a small compact car; a Corolla and especially a Fit would be a very uncomfortable for 5 people if it is the family car. As for Electric cars, they are either very short-range vehicles (e.g. Leaf has 107km of range) or ludicrously expensive (coughTeslacough). The Camry Hybrid is a great choice for a clean, fuel efficient & spacious family hauler but don't want the clumsy driving dynamics of a SUV. However I wouldn't buy one personally (the Camry is too soft, even in SE trim). My pick would be the Fusion Hybrid.
@Lucky8s8 жыл бұрын
Trades46 I see where you're going. Good points. I would like to mention that compact cars, such as the 2016 Honda Civic, have been growing throughout the years. The current Civic is, I believe, only slightly smaller than the previous generations Accord. The old Accords were good family cars, I bet the new Civic would do just as good. I wonder how the Chevy Bolt and Tesla Model 3 will impact the car market. 200 mile ranges are pretty nice, and I bet they'd make good family cars.
@Trades468 жыл бұрын
+WuWei Xu The current 2016+ Civic is a GREAT car; this is coming from a someone who doesn't even like Honda. Yes the Civic has been growing in size over the years but still not to the point where it can carry 5 adults (4 adults + a child perhaps). The Chevy Bolt and Tesla Model 3 would seem to be the first wave of affordable long-range EVs to come. Personally I have more faith in the Bolt as GM has clearly atoned for the EV1 scandal as well as the proof-of-concept with the Volt mk1 and mk2. While Tesla has been making headlines, their financial state is anything but healthy; I just hope I can see an actual production Model 3 by the late 2017...if Elon can hold the company in one piece.
@anizares18 жыл бұрын
Dennis Xu The civic is nice but I'm leaning toward the camry (I test drove a 2016 Civic and very nice ). Too many infotainment issues reported . I've always owned Toyota and loved the reliability. A car purchase is only second to buying a house. Too much money spent to not be sure.

Regarding hybrid payback time it's a bit tricky since largest cost is really depreciation. It seems unlikely the entire hybrid premium will fully depreciate % after few years. So payback should be bit earlier in theory despite low fuel prices.

Another excellent review. Yours are the most informative out there as far as I can see. In comparing the Camry SE and the Accord LX, it seems the Camry has more content while the Accord gets significantly better gas mileage. The Accord also seem more up to date mechanically. Do you prefer the Accord power train with the CVT or the Camry with the traditional six speed automatic? Both these vehicles are available in my area with very generous lease offers, so its pretty much a matter of personal preference. By the way, I think the Camry's "cow catcher" grill and front bumper are way over the top--especially considering the Camry's traditional market.
@way2kuhl9 жыл бұрын
ericj305 Not yet. I have a 2006 loaded Nissan Maxima which is still in pristine condition and I will probably never spring for another car with that many high end features, so I'm enjoying it while I can. I may get something smaller and more utilitarian such as a Honda HRV or Mazda CX3. If I had to choose between the Camry and Accord right now, I'm not sure what I'd do. Sorry.

the SE has firmer suspension and would compare best to Accord Sport.

Fancy design, flashing lights looking more like an space ship and hyper engines is not Toyotas style. Camry is a reliable vehicle that takes you where you want to go cheaply and without complaint. Old chassis, transmissions and engines are working perfectly well. We own a 2002 camry, a true high mileage, and it is still running as well as new. Unfortunately so well, that we don't want to sell it. We are curious to find out how long it will last. Thanks Alex for the great reviews!

Hey Alex, great detailed video as always. I am looking between this and Accord hybrid. Not a a Fusion fan. Like the way the Fusion looks but not very comfortable for me. I am looking to get the CH in either SE or XLE trims or Accord Hybrid in Touring trim. If it was you're money, what would you go for?
@AAutoBuyersGuide10 жыл бұрын
I would get the Accord. The hybrid system may not be as smooth as the Camry but it gets better fuel economy and I found it more comfortable and it handles better.
@police118410 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I just watched your Accord video again. I like the fact that the Honda system seems much better and more advanced than the Camry. It is not more Volt like in it's operation. I really like that fact that it leans more on electric driving than gas. I love the Volt and my father has owned one for 2 years and he loves it. I like the Camry style better (not saying Accord isn't nice looking) but I think you are right that I would be happier with Accord. Most of my driving is 55 and below.

Alex, you LOVE the Honda Accord Hybrid and based on your fine and detailed explanation of the Accord Hybrid drivetrain, I would agree. But Consumer Reports HATES the Accord Hybrid and fault both NVH as well as the nature of the drivetrain and transmission, even though they like the Accord 4cyl CVT. Is it possible your demo Accord Hybrid was different from an actual production model? Or can you offer some other explanation for the huge difference in the reviews?
@AAutoBuyersGuide10 жыл бұрын
I know the folks over at Consumer Reports and I would say that we just fundamentally disagree about a few vehicles. Among them are the Accord Hybrid, the Nissan Versa and the Toyota Prius C. Their complaint about NVH was mostly down to hearing the engine operate at higher speeds than they are used to. While the Toyota/Ford systems always have the engine spinning on some relation to what;s going on with the accelerator pedal, the Accord, Volt, ELR, i3 and i8 do not. The engine spins wherever it needs to to meet power demand at the time so it sounds different. My key issue with CR is that the folks there tend to be fairly rigid and dislike things outside the norm. Does the Accord hybrid operate differently? Yes. Does the drivetrain operate differently than the others on the market? Yes. Is that a bad thing? That depends. I suspect that 99.9% of owners will adapt the same way they have adapted to CVTs or Toyota hybrids. If the Accord is your only car or you swap between two cars, I doubt the average person will mind. If however like me and CR, you drive 70+ different cars a year, the one that is different can stand out like a sore thumb. Part of the reason I like the Accord hybrid is that I'm a technology nut and it's quite a novel way of handling a hybrid system. I was so smitten by it at the launch event that I questioned my sanity and grabbed one about 4 months later. I still liked it. I have also sampled models from dealers and was similarly impressed. It's not for everyone and it's not perfect, but it is comfortable, handles well and gets excellent fuel economy for a mid-size sedan, as long as you keep speeds below 70MPH, above it and you'll probably be in the mid 30s.
@RobertLeBlancPhoto10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video Alex on Autos. Do you think Toyota will ever offer an AWD version of this mated with their V6, or will Subaru remain the only offering with that setup?
@AAutoBuyersGuide10 жыл бұрын
Subaru, Ford and Chrysler are really the only entries with AWD in this segment. The Camry is not designed for AWD so it would take major revisions to accept it.
@RobertLeBlancPhoto10 жыл бұрын
Alex on Autos Thanks. I didn't even consider those since we're not fans of American vehicles. I guess we'll have to splurge for an A3 if the Legacy 3.6R doesn't appeal. Thanks again.

Between the Camry Hybrid and Accord hybrid. Which one would you get? I'm currently a 04 Camry LE owner and looking to upgrade to a newer midsize that would give me great fuel economy but i also like a softer suspension vs handling. Do a mixture of local and hwy driving. Thanks!

@Lucky8s9 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't consider the Malibu due to poor resale values and the fact that it really doesn't offer anything special over its competition. My list would be: Accord, Camry, Sonata, Mazda 6, Fusion, Altima. Take care.

They should also put the LED hi/lows on the highlander and 4runner too. And how do car companies keep forgetting to put a grab handle on the inside of the trunk lid? geeeez it's so basic, my 2006 wrx has one.
@Trades468 жыл бұрын
I really wished the Camry would move away from the use of a strut-type rear suspension. Yes it does give the Camry a very cushy ride but name me another midsize sedan that resorts to such a cheap cost-cutting measure. The car CRIES for a well-sorted multi-link (e.g. like the 2016 Prius) setup; I also imagine that would transform the handling character of the Camry.
@Alisters_Adventures8 жыл бұрын
the lexus es350 also uses a strut type rear suspension. and the 2016 prius uses double wishbone rear suspension not multi link.

As far as saving money and gasoline goes, it seems the best Toyota buy today is the Corolla LE Eco, not the Camry Hybrid. The Corolla is big enough for most people anyway, and ten thousand dollars less expensive than the Camry Hybrid You can buy allot of gasoline with 10k..
@BDOC9971410 жыл бұрын
Not everyone can settle for a compact car you know. People who have a lot of people to take around (families) or just want something more powerful needs a midsize. If anything, midsize is big enough for most people but not compact.
