In a small Pennsylvania town a young guy bought a little 49cc scooter. A lot of people thought he was a bit strange, including myself. We were saying, why doesn't he get himself a real bike. At the time he was the only scooter rider in town. One day he let me ride it, and I was hooked. Now there are 8 of us scooter riders. All of us with the same 49cc scooter. A scooter is sooooo much fun. I mean, I still have my Fat Boy and V-Max, and they are fun too. But around town? A scooter is so much easier. Going bar hopping is awesome. If I need to get on the interstate, then I break out the Harley or Mr. Max. But, around town, It's the scooter. Like I said, ride one and you will be hooked.

Old guy (63) w/an '08 "Metropolitan" w/many performance-upgrades, 'WOT' at 42mph...with a 225lb. rider! I LOVE my scoot...it will likely 'live' on long after I'm 'worm-food'. I live in a small village in S.Illinois, and here it's all 'loud-ass Harley choppers' most of the year...these 'tough-hombre' types can't handle winter, and 'don't get' my scooter at all, and I couldn't care less!"Interstate?" No worries...that's what cars are for! (a 'big-bike' does me no good here...so many deer and critters it's unsafe to go faster than fifty on a two-wheeler) My first Honda was the 'CM-90' (at 14 in Nevada you could get a license for a small bike) in '68...and what a difference almost a half-century has made! If NASA could build a ship as well as Honda makes these machines, we would've landed on Mars ten years ago!

Gerry Nightingale Well, I got you beat. I'm 68. Lol. Yeah, I took a ribbing from some guys. They would say, why don't you ride the Harley anymore? But, I do ride the Harley. Just not around town. I want something quick and nimble. I did hit a cat one night. I didn't see it coming. I turned around and went back and it had ran off. I hope it was ok. I know the scooter is not very heavy, but it still had to hurt. Almost hit a deer too. That was a close one!

This may sound very silly, but I've wanted one since I played The Sims Bustin' Out on PS2 back in the mid to late 2000s. Whenever you went to a different location in the game, you'd hop onto a pink Vespa and ride. It's peak leisure travel, and seeing as I don't like motorbikes due to their noise and speed, Vespas are the perfect scooter.
@davidcarroll20355 жыл бұрын
I’ve been riding bikes since 1976 and I’ve been through most fazes, sports, trail, sports tourer, and big tourer. About 12 years ago I got an urge to get into scooters and bought a classic Lambretta GP200 in need of some tlc, had that, then bought an early Vespa GTS 300 ie super, and at the same period of time bought a Vespa PX200 that needed lots of restoration. I still have that and it’s lots of fun to ride. But after 3 years I sold My gts for another bike an 1100cc that was a mistake, not my first by the way. But after another 3 years with the bike I decided to rectify that mistake and part exchanged the bike for another gts 300 ie super with abs and asr. I’m not gonna make that mistake again. And one more thing the Vespa GTS is the only vehicle that I’ve had two of, I’ve never had the same vehicle twice before. That speaks volumes to me.

That's the nicest looking scooter I've ever seen! I've been interested in scooters now that I think riding a motorcycle in town is dangerous and a pain in the ass. I just want to hop on a light scooter for short errands or light shopping, I hate motorcycles since they are heavy and takes too much room in the garage.

A guy just showed me his facial reconstruction photos from when he was wearing a half helmet. He still has metal plates in his face. All could have been avoided with a full face helmet.
@shaleemichelle7 жыл бұрын
Stephen Abbott I was just thinking about the safety concerns of wearing a half helmet. Perhaps it'd be fine if you're going at low speeds (20mph max) in an area that has little high traffic..But for anything above that or more demanding than that, I'd want a full helmet. If I end up eating pavement, and smash my face into it, I'd want the full helmet to get the brunt of it. Otherwise, what is it worth to have an efficient means of transportation if you're going to be paying out the ass for your injuries (assuming you aren't dead, but even that is expensive)? Likewise, I think other protective gear would be a good investment. Similar to what motorcyclists wear (protective pants, jackets, and gloves). Upon Googling gory pictures of motorcycle type accidents, maybe even a good pair of boots would be a good idea too.. In some other areas of the world, like Italy or Japan, I've seen people who wear casual clothes - even dresses and high heels. Yikes!

@saketarora71076 жыл бұрын
MrAmedina5 no
@jimbobaggans15646 жыл бұрын
MrAmedina5 In America you need a drivers license to take any scooter on the roads. But, if the scooter is under 50cc's you don't have to get a motorcycle license additional to you drivers license. In the state of Pennsylvania, you also need to get it inspected once a year and get the inspection sticker, no matter what engine size it has. Also you need to be able to show that you have insurance on it, like you would do with any motorcycle. If the scooter is 50cc or larger you will need to take the test for operating a motorcycle and get it added to your drivers license.

well thats your choice buddy but I would choose Harly over Vespa any day thats just me, mostly other guy would have say it too, Its just about personal preference. For more stop and go Vespa Scooter are good. To be more clear if I had money I would have both. For show off and long cruising I would drive Harly and for bustling traffic, I would use Vespa Scooter.

Uncle Meat I have a Harley for the long hauls and a V-Max if I wanna go supersonic. For around town I don't want to wrestle with a big bike. I want to park anywhere. I have even pulled it up on the sidewalk a few times when there was no parking spaces. (I don't recommend doing this everywhere. Sometimes cops frown on that.)

When it comes to modern scooters(not classic) Vespa is the only Brand that is stylish and cool. All other scooters ate gay as hell.

Never wear an open face helmet. If you come off you might as well be wearing a baseball cap. Face plant and your face will resemble a Hawaiian pizza.

In dense urban city traffic, your peripheral vision is so much better with an open faced helmet - especially when filtering between traffic. All depends on where you’re riding. For open roads and high speeds, full face is definitely the way to go.

@@JakeM218 Your peripheral vision is better still with no helmet at all. Open face helmets are virtually useless. You rarely land on the top of your head. Your face is the most vulnerable part of your head when you crash. Open the visor on your full helmet and you get the effect of an open face helmet with the added safety.

@@asensibleyoungman2978 Opening the visor of a full face still doesn’t give the same field of view, and an open face helmet still protects you in the event of a side crash, or rear impact. Most of the time, when someone trips over, the immediate response is to put out your hands / arms to protect the fall. There are times when a full face helmet has advantages, but there are also specific riding scenarios that favour an open face helmet.
