2015 WTTC Interview Men's CNT: Ma Long Xu Xin Fang Bo Fan Zhendong (Zhang JK) & Liu Guoliang [HD]

Thanks for great vids as always. Rough translation, but points not in complete chronological order of video. Hope this helps. Zhang Jike was originally included in this interview but he is currently suffering severe recurring waist injury. LGL praised Fang Bo and FZD on getting deep into WTTC. He mentioned that Fang Bo is a very FH oriented player, which have high potential and stability of winning crucial points and punishing bad receives. On final day of WTTC, Ma Long didnt watch the 2nd semis so he was shocked to receive news that Fang Bo won. Although he would totally prefer Fang Bo as opponent, but he had an extra burden cause Fang Bo is viewed as 2nd tier player so losing to Fang Bo would have a bigger confidence blow. Ma Long apologized for jumping on the table as celebration as he thought it was disrespectful towards Fang Bo, and he did apologize personally later on. Zhang Jike "tweeted" (the chinese one) an congratulation note to Ma Long saying that he feels safe having Ma Long in the team for team events, but since Ma Long is so strong he wont be able to sleep well if he were to participate with Ma Long in Olympics singles later on. LGL mentioned that Zhang Jike losing is also a good thing as he would have lost all his mental burden of having high expectation at big tournaments all the time. New plastic ball would require more effort to make the same amount of power/spin as before. Some players suffered stamina issues due to this (training etc). Xu Xin clarified that losing to Fang Bo was not affected too much by injury. Fang Bo was really just playing too well, and Xu Xin was not firm and aggressive enough. LGL affirms this view. Fang Bo said he saw Ma Long held the trophy really tight at the ceremony, like he was afraid that he might drop it, so he asked to help hold it for a bit and view it since he didnt hold it up close before. He said winning the silver was important as it proved himself, so that others would not laugh/tease (also because he was always overconfident/boasty and said he would win in the future) him anymore. LGL mentioned that Fang Bo was originally only considered to be a training partner for Olympics preparation, but now they will give him an equal chance of competing for participation in Olympics. Fan Zheng Dong thought he played well in WTTC, but he didnt feel satisfied with the result he obtained. Media/reporters always label him as youngest player in WTTC so losing this time doesnt matter, but he doesnt feel the same way, it is all about ability to win on the "table" regardless of age.

Couple more points I found interesting to add to tansy007's nice summary. (from my very rusty Chinese, please excuse any inaccuracies): 10:42 Liu Guoliang mentioned that "I thought it was a good match. Both players were able to play at their best performance. I think MA Long played at his usual performance, but FANG Bo exceeded his best performance. When I talked to Zhang Jike after the semifinal, I asked "what do you think was the reason for this result?" he replied that he believe his stamina wasn't keeping up with others. He had his eyes on the final and wanted to conserve more energy for the final, counting on a smoother win in the semifinal. He knew that if he won the semifinals that his opponent would be Ma Long. On top of that, his preparation against Fang Bo wasn't too deep. If we look at their origins, Zhang Jike and Fang Bo both originated from Shandong, played for the same Chinese Super League, and have the same coach group. So, the two never had any formal preparation against each other domestically or internationally. Fang Bo once said, very honestly that "I understand how Zhang Jike plays, but Zhang Jike doesn't necessarily understand me". The whole world has been studying Zhang Jike, any probably no one was studying Fang Bo." 18:36 "A lot of fans and Yang Haeun herself have wanted Xu Xin as Yang Haeun's teammate again in mixed doubles. Would you be willing? [pause] She asked, not me." Xu Xin respondes by saying that he might pick another and give another player a chance, to which the questioner responds jokingly, "You're going to let her heart break? Everyone is waiting for you to say 'Yes. I'm willing'". Xu Xin responds that the tournament can take a toll on his health and that if he wants to partner with her again that he will need to strengthen his physical shape, receiving a playful "She's that strong?" from interviewer. 23:00 Fang Bo was asked to introduce himself but he gives a rather funny introduction. "Hi, my name is Fang Bo. I grew up in Shandong..." "That's it? How about your age?" "I'm 23 years old and I was born in Hubei and I grew up in Liaoning." "How uncomfortable/awkward! One breath per word/phrase! {how choppy}.
