2015 Yukon Shark Fin Antenna Replacement

Your video was very helpful!!! Previous owner of my 2015 Yukon replaced the antenna with a 2016 factory painted one. We were wondering why we couldnt get XM to work. Turns out, like you said, the new antennas split the XM signal onto another connection (yellow plug). Ordered and installed a Fakra 10 ft extension cable and it works now! Thank you

Thank you I replaced the shark fin antenna with the yellow plug but no cable up there I ended up putting a temporary XM antenna mounted on a suction cup shower handle on the back window 😁

I am a retired GM Master Tech my 2015 Suburban is at a dealer having the shark fin antenna replaced under extended warrantee. This the type of work I did.

Can you splice the yellow wire into one of the other two wire in the red connecter? would that work?

What did you have to buy to add apple car play? I have tried to do some research after watching this and haven’t been able to find anything. My wife’s XM quit working and I ordered a new antenna but I would like to update it all. I have apple car play in my 2021 and it works great. How does it work with the upgrade?

Where did you get your Fakra cable? How long is it?

was the ANTENNA LEAKING ? Bill my 2017 Tahoe just started to Leak Water on the A- Pillar

No leak for me inside the vehicle. I did the replacement in the summer and when I removed the old antenna, a lot of water spilled down windshield, looks like it just stays pooled up with no place to go until it finds a spot. If you have the 2017, your antenna should be the new style. I would try taking the car through a carwash to start the leak then disassemble the roof panel like in the video to feel where the moisture is coming from to narrow down the location of your issue. good luck.

The leak is very common, thanks to the awesome design of the original shark fin antenna, which comes with a opening in the gasket behind the shark fin , so that all the rain water enters the shark fin and there is no way out for the water!! Brilliant isn’t it. GM wants people to have these leaks and weird electrical problems. The newer replacement parts come with the opening in the front, so that water can drain out (the front slopes down, so helps water exit).

The original and new GM antenna have the XM built in. The new GM antenna just has the XM on its own dedicated breakout now, which is why the new cable is required

The original was black and I wanted the one that was painted to match. All the models after 2015 had the painted to match versions.

No change in reception. Just visual appearance. Like I mention in the video, I was changing out the module for Apple CarPlay so while I was tearing the car apart, it was the perfect time to do the antenna as well.
