Let me please check if I understand correctly; does this update mean that audio is no longer routed through the aux input of the factory radio? I was watching a video for a 2017-2020 IS and saw a comment about this update. I’d love CarPlay functionality in my IS, but if the sound quality is impacted because all audio is routed via the aux input of the factory radio, then I’m not interested. But if this update means audio is routed directly through the factory units Bluetooth connection, the sound quality will be all digital. The second thing that comes to my mind is the wired CarPlay connection with this update: in the case I connect my iPhone wired, is that connected to the factory USB input, or the CarPlay USB input? How is the sound routed when using a wired connection? And in that case, how is the sound quality in that case?

Correct, the update routes all audio through the car’s Bluetooth. In addition you have the option to connect your phone directly to the car’s usb for better quality sound. You can test it yourself by comparing the usb connection to the car’s Bluetooth even without our kit. The result with our kit will be exactly the same. If you want wired carplay, the phone will still need to be connected to the car Bluetooth otherwise the audio will come out of the phone. If you want to go full wired while the audio comes out of the car’a speakers, you will need to go back to using aux- by changing in our device settings and turn off audio to Bluetooth

I cannot get my turn by turn sound to work. while in Bluetooth or wired connection iPod for whatever reason when connected to CarPlay I have to be in auxiliary to hear Siri or summon Siri or to hear , turn by turn navigation sound

Still a bit confused on the firmware / upgrade item. The disclaimer in this vid, which I understand to be the latest video showing the post Sept. 1 upgrade, says to check with you on units outside the Jan. - Aug. 2023 date range, which I would understand to be a post Sept. 1 unit. Do post Sept.1 units need an upgrade? Thanks.

Hi Josh. 1. It depends on your vehicle trim and if you have the Mark Levinson sound system. You may experiment yourself by connecting your phone directly to the car usb and compare the audio quality so the Bluetooth audio. 2. Post Sep 1 all comes with the upgrade.

How would you say you compare to the newer Lexion models for Lexus? They run a Qualcomm 6125 AI-class chip 11nm 4-core 2.0GHZ, 4-core1.8GHZ chip.

No comparison. Ours takes 5 seconds to boot up and connect to your phone. It’s faster than the time the lexus system fully boots up. Lexion takes like a minute

I want to go ahead and schedule an install very soon due to being local. One question though. On this updated unit, does the CarPlay audio use Bluetooth to output to the cars audio system or does it use aux? Other systems seem to use the cars aux audio to output and are recommended to manually change to the cars Bluetooth for better audio. This would be a killer feature.

I like it especially that it can connect wirelessly and it has the wired capability in case you want to use a dongle to connect wirelessly and watch videos through an SD card. At least I think it has that capabilities. And also will this work with the mark Levinson sound system because you didn't mention between stock and Mark Levinson?
