Some of these issues you pointed out don't even apply to my 2019 GS 350 F Sport, which is still going strong--no issues. But this being sent to me by a hater actually worked out in my favor because I had no idea the Mark Levinson amp was back there in the trunk near that flap. I'll have to keep an eye on that. Those air vent/check valves on either side of the trunk not only attenuate cabin pressure when someone closes a door, they also are the exhaust port for when you're highway cruising and the HVAC is providing fresh vs recirculated air. I've never had one of those things fail in any car I've owned, so I'm surprised that the ones in this car somehow allow water to get in. It's unfortunate that Lexus didn't provide one of those specialty drain ports for the low point in that side well. Those specialty drip ports create a venturi effect and siphon off any water falling into them as you drive.
@EddieGS3506 ай бұрын
ohh dude when doing research for the vid. I saw a good amount of people report it on the IS and GS. What happens is they deteriorate or fall off and that lets the water in. Here's an interesting tidbit about the knocking sound from the vacuum pump. My GS 350 F-Sport AWD is a 2015, and the 2013 - 2015 models do NOT have the vacuum pump. BUT, I still hear that same noise. Mine is from the high-pressure fuel pump, which is located in the same area on the valve cover. It's especially noisy at cold start, then it settles, then sometimes out of the blue that odd knocking sound happens. Seeing this and other reports about the vacuum pump noise perplexes me. As an aside, the high-pressure fuel pump is definitely noisy, even could hear it with doors and windows closed, at idle. The pump is mounted to the top of the valve cover nearest the passenger fire wall. I researched this years back and discovered that the HPFP is the same as in certain model years of the LS, and that car had a factory fitted insulation jacket on it. I was able to search for that and purchased one from a Lexus parts dealer. Several days and $50 or so later, I received it and installed it. I was very disappointed how little of the racket was reduced. Oh well, this is probably why Lexus didn't bother to fit one to the GS models.
@EddieGS3506 ай бұрын
Ahh yeah my old 2012 IS 350 also made the same noise on cold start. The 2016+ GS get it worse because you get two different knocking noises. You'll get both the vacuum pump and fuel pump. When I first bought my 2012 IS 350 I was tripping too but after putting 80k miles on the car without any issues at all, I figured if it don't sound like a sewing machine it ain't good.

Yoo Alex. What’s funny is the 2nd GS was my dream car for a long time! I’d want to get my hands on a 400 or 430 for a project car.

How reliable are the 2008 gs 350s
@EddieGS3506 ай бұрын
Ahh those are pretty reliable too! I know the early FSE years burned a little bit of oil. It might’ve gotten fixed by 2008 but just keep an eye on it. Water pump was an issue back then too lol. I think that’s pretty much it. Solid car 👍

Will it be the same for is models?
@EddieGS3506 ай бұрын
Ooh yeah, vacuum pump, 2014-2017 for the servo motors, and amp issue will affect the IS. Deff check your amp flap before the wet season and you'll be good. Most of these issues aren't super super common and the TSBs are already documented. Thank you for watching!

Now I'm scared about my AC. I live in Arizona. My 2017 350 has super weak AC. Could also just be that I was used to my old Mercedes C class. I had the whole system redone so it was ICE cold within 30 seconds of starting the car.

Okay I hate to say this but everyone is WRONG about the "flaps" being the problem that damages the amplifier. It os the fact that Lexus decided it was a good idea to mount the amplifier out of ALL places RIGHT ON TOP OF THE EXAUST MUFFLER!!!! All the constant heat, humidity, change in temperatures, leads to the amplifier Failing.
@EddieGS350Ай бұрын
Ooh it's deff the water. A lot of owners report it after a rainstorm and they find a puddle of water in there. Just type "amp rain lexus" in Google. I tested your theory though! The area doesn't get too hot even after a spirited drive.

That’s a vacuum pump making that knock? Damn that would give me a heart attack. On the water pumps if you don’t change the coolant every 50-60k it will cause the water pump to go out. These pumps aren’t to very forgiving on delayed maintenance.
@EddieGS3506 ай бұрын
Ohh man. You can actually hear it from the inside on cold days. It really does sound like engine knock and not the typical Lexus sewing machine. Ooh I should’ve mentioned that in the vid! The good thing is changing the water pump forces you to swap the coolant lol.

You must have a lemon because these cars hold their value for a reason I’ve had my GS 2015 for almost 10 years absolutely nothing and I mean nothing at all has given up on me, not a hose not not a belt not even a headlight. Nothing absolutely nothing has broken on my car yet until last year factory, Panasonic battery finally died on me just stopped the nonsense. My car still worth 27,000 near mint condition even models with high mileage and accident. History still cost near five digits or more. Stop it you buggin
@EddieGS350Ай бұрын
The items in this video are not things that have gone wrong in my GS, they are issues that could go wrong. A lot of these items have been documented in CL, TSBs, and anecdotal data. Just type in google "GS 350 servo" "GS 350 water amp failure" Maybe a batch of struts motors were bad from the factory and your GS didn't get that bad batch. Maybe you park your car in a garage and don't worry about water or the elements damaging your flap. Glad your GS has been good to you. Nothing like owning a reliable car.

We have 4 cars a 2017 GS350, 2019 Corolla, 2023 Palisade and 2016 BMW 228i. Our BMW is a 2016 driven by our 19yo son who def enjoys it and it has been perfect engine wise over the last 55kmi. Only two wheel sensors replaced, one set of tires with the rear brakes. It will outrun all our Asian cars and still get 25mpg. The engine bay has tons of space for DIY but the use of plastic everywhere is a scary but so far nothing has melted 😱. The Corolla has had one issue in 5 years, plastic hubcaps fell apart, other than that the engine is an absolute gem! The CVT ruins the driving experience even for an economy car. The Palisade is a minivan in SUV clothing, been a great family hauler. My Lexus is all in one- luxury, performance, economical, and Toyota reliability. I previously drove Mercedes S Class which I loved to drive more than Lexus. Mercedes does a better job on interior and paint quality than Lexus but all the German over engineered mechanical items (air suspension, soft close doors, etc) were a PITA to keep going. I enjoy the Lexus more knowing nothing is broken when I drive it- even with the cold start vacuum pump knock!! Great video!

Hahah yeah, that's what I love about Lexus. How am I supposed to get attached to a car if it always giving me problems? All 3 of my Lexus cars have never left me stranded or given me major issues. I miss my old IS and ES all the time, glad I was able to own those cars. Thank you for watching!

Bro, that's high pressure fuel pump knocking (should be ticking), not vacuum pump. It supplies high pressure fuel to the direct injection rails
@EddieGS35017 күн бұрын
Ahh that pump also makes a similar noise but for the 2GR FKS. It’s definitely the vacuum pump. The high pressure fuel pump sounds more like a sewing machine and slower. The vacuum pump is right behind the fuel pump. It’s a faster knock.
@EddieGS35017 күн бұрын
But I do want to make an all your Lexus knocking explained video cause these engines make so many weird noises lol.

@ Oh sorry! I have an FSE, thought this was too. Never knew they introduced a vacuum pump. This sounds weird and archaic, but the engineers know better :)
