nice review man, next time ask Alfa to send you a version without doors, then you'll have something real to complain about:)

I had a BMW 1.20 from 2010 to 2013, a BMW 3.20 touring from 2013 to May of this year and I currently have a BMW X3 2.0 x-drive. All company corp. cars. Two days ago a big car rental company gave me an Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.2 Q2 180hp for a week end drive testing and my comment is just WOW...! The overall assembly quality is really good, the design is just great and... "sexy", and the interiors very sporty and "wrapping". but the most important quality of this new car is the incredible stability, the agility and the steer wheel precision and agility. Despite the dimensions, when you drive the Giulia you feel like to be driving a go kart and everything happens with a lot, but really a lot of fun, much more fun than whatever German rivals. I am definitively a German car fan, but the new Giulia is going to break the evergreen German leadership on this car market sector, from my point of view. Just try to believe...

Alfa is the best today if you want driving pleasure, it is born for this. Diesel 180 hp, is ok, is the market, and dictate economy, but if you need a very sport car you must drive a petrol engine Alfa, perhaps 2.9l is to much, but we are waiting for a 2l petrol engine. Inside is beautiful.
@MrDavid9198 жыл бұрын
There are two 2l petrol engines in Giulia, with 200 or all wheel drive with 280hp.

Just tried the 136 hp today. Though not particularly sporty by today's standards, it turned out to be a far more enjoyable, fun and interesting ride than the equivalent 3-Series or A4. I simply love how the momentum develops at low RPM range, as well as the steering precision and braking sharpness. Very useful in today's traffic density or when cornering the car. Whatever minor flaws it may have, the Giulia is a car built with a soul, and a conspicuous passion for what really matters. It may appear slightly more civil and tame than past iterations of the brand's coupés, but it has definitely conquered me with its balance of responsiveness, handling, build quality, fun factor, pleasure and comfort. I wonder what the 210 hp version has under its bonnet... *Drools*

I agree, I am waiting for the 2.0 l Petrol version as this diesel doesn't seem that promising. Perhaps when the petrol does come, it could have some of the options of the QV like better sears, adjustable suspension.

I find it a pretty good looking car and and interesting alternative to the German competitors. I hope it drives even better than it looks since Alfa engineers knew they couldn't fail with this one. As far as the styling is concerned I hate the plastic cover of the cruise control, they should have placed it behind the brands logo. Additionally, I don't like the way the front bumper is attached to the car, if you look at the lines above and below the headlight, there's an asymetric line which doesn't look good imo. Perhaps that won't be a problem on a darker car. Anyway great machine Alfa!

The diesel variants are more mass market. I have the Veloce 2.0l turbo petrol, it's black and white compared to the diesel. Try to get one of these and do a comparison, I think it's more of what you're expecting. Btw I don't think you deserve the hate below. Your views are personal and I disagree with a lot but that's life.

If you want to do a good review would be nice to be more specific and objective. "It's fine" doesen't mean too much. If you would compare each caracteristic with the main competitors in it's class we would know better what you mean, not just "it's fine".

I am never comparing. My reviews are always structured in the same way, so you can compare yourself. [Jan]

So you want the car to be stiffer? Why? By all accounts the QV is faster than an M3; around a track AND more comfortable on the road. So why do you want it to be stiffer? Just so you can have an uncomfortable car that feels quicker than it actually is. The truth is that the Alfa has the best and most advanced suspension design of any car in its class and can be run softer without sacrificing comfort. If it was a German car that achieved this I am sure you would not complain about it. All you can say about the suspension is " its not like an S-Class". Every other review I have read or watched has said it is an amazingly comfortable ride while still being a fun car to drive. You realise how negative you sound about the car here? It just sounds like you have an agenda against it.
@pete31988 жыл бұрын
For what it's worth im pretty sure I read that all of the 'super' variants get REAL wood trim and REAL leather. If so then the claims made in this review (hard patterned plastic and fake leather) are not accurate.

So they created an Audi A4 competitor. But the opposite way of BMW. Alfa in this case created a rwd cat that behaves like a fwd one. While BMW created a fwd car that behaves like a rwd one (X1 x-drive). I have a question... Every other reviewer said that the Giulia have a very direct steering, but you said it's almost numb. So is the truth in between? A little bit of criticism... I've seen your disappointment, can you just fake it next time like you do when you drive Audi's :) :) :) And thanks for the review.

Very good review but, I too am a little disappointed by your impression of this diesel Alfa. I live in Canada and we will get the 2 litre turbo with 270 hp gas engine as well as the V6/505 hp engine. I hope the 2.0 litre turbo will be more sporty than this European Alfa diesel.
@Sebbuz118 жыл бұрын
It is a quite comprehensive and well done review until you begin complaining it is not sporty enough, especially considering that at the beginning you state that it is not a sporty version. Maybe you should be a little bit more consistent with yourself. We all know that this version is still better than corresponding A4 BMW 3 series and Mercedes class C on track, so I don't understand this criticism. Also, you should have tried it on a track to support your statement (like I saw in other reviews). I don't think you can pull out the "sporty" on a normal countryside road...
@lprovenzano78 жыл бұрын
I don't understand what is the point with this review?! How do you expect sport behavior on a 2.2L diesel engine?! Take the 2.9L version and than says is Alfa DNA or not?! This version is like a diesel Porsche or kind of that. Its a compromise between price and performance. I do drive an E class 220, and is not that I am expecting what the E63 does. I have seen/read mostly all ALFA Giulia review done from not Italian Magazine and newspapers. The German one are the worst review and they are all disappointed someone like you a bit, and other more and start comparing even the mirror buttons. I don't know what most of German magazine/newspaper are saying about the Dielsel gate are you disappointed or a bit one?!

*in America this will be either win or a flop there is too much competition and the new A4 has side rear view mirrors on the door, its coming to bmw and Mercedes, this alfa still has them NOT on the door, it makes the car look less wide compare to competition*
@weitai73048 жыл бұрын
Honda Fit also has the mirror on the door. What's the big deal about having the mirror on the door anyway?
@minibus13518 жыл бұрын
where the side mirrors are located hardly determines a "win or flop" of a car. All the main cars in the segment like the 3series, A4 and the C-class have generally been doing the same thing over the years and could be argued that they are becoming stale and predictable. An italian flair in the segment is a much welcome in my opinion.
@derbigpr5008 жыл бұрын
Well there is even more competition in Europe, with better cars than in US, so it's gonna be an even more of a win or flop. It won't be a hit, but I think it will sell much better than old 159.

If you want sportier Alfa, wait for Veloce trim. Dont slam this Super version of diesel Alfa. Somewhere on the UK or other bad road country- reviewer is blessing this softer ride! Most of the reviewers are also liking the fixed paddleshifts. Those are mounted so don't move and always know where they are when driving fast in twisty roads. If you were a spirited driver then you would love it and apreciate it! So in your mind BMW is not a sporty car and doesn't scream sporty if you say this Giulia screams sporty... so you must be satisfied when driving 2.0 diesel in BMW? I bet you praised how good and sporty that diesel BMW was when you did a test drive in it? It smells like a paid off review by other german manufacturer. Go drive another dull german and shut it!
@rheumakai868 жыл бұрын
so it's the reviewers fault that alfa produces a Gulia Diesel and didnt give him a petrol test car? interesting!
@TRHardware8 жыл бұрын
+TJ CORE He should review the car as it is. Not compare it to sportier car. I will give you a VW Passat Variant. Go make a review and don't you dare to say it is not sport car... same logic?
@rheumakai868 жыл бұрын
but even if you gave a Passat a better, sportier motor, its still a passat, with all its boring business flaws. So if the opposite happens, you give a sporty gulia a diesel, you would still think that it drives "kinda" sporty in a diesel way... but it doesn't. Thats what the reviewer is trying to say. And in addtition: He does not say that it's a bad car, he only says that it didnt fit his (sporty) expectations..

The T.spark and JTS petrol engines are what make a Alfa an Alfa Romeo. Even the diesel engines are excellent, the M-Jets and JTD are some of the best diesel engines around. You need to get behind the wheel of one and drive it, then you will understand the unique beauty of an Alfa Romeo. My current Alfa is my 4th Alfa Romeo and I love them dearly. All the bullshit written about them or spoken about them are by uninformed people who've never known an Alfa Romeo!
