But they don't. Not since the late 80s. I have had a few Alfa's and currently have a 2019 Giulia Veloce and it is great. I get it's about the styling and performance, and while the exterior is absolutely stunning and looks like no other car out there, for a car in that price point and considered high end, I do wish they didn't cheap out on the interior. No matter how much of an Alfa enthusiast you are, there's no denying the interior looks cheap and rather on the boring side. People in the market for Alfa Romeo's typically aren't on a tight budget, so I wish they would have made the interior a little more luxurious looking and just made the starting price for the Giulia a little more expensive. I was torn between a Giulia Estrema and Audi S5 Sportback, but interior and virtual cockpit of the Audi sold it for me.
@DanSands1 Жыл бұрын
@@pullupsandboba8937 You made your decision based upon what is important to you. In this case, interior styling. However, for me the element of performance is much more important. I know that there are many faster cars out there. I completely understand that performance figures also mean nothing. It is the handling. It is the feedback, the control, the involvement. The experience is a very different one in an Alfa Romeo. I don't criticise your decision, it is yours to make. However a car is not for just sitting in, it is for driving. That is many different things to many different people. While driving mine, I do not look for the fastest route, or the shortest route. I look for the most enjoyably route. I arrive smiling. That is what an Alfa Romeo is all about.
@pullupsandboba8937 Жыл бұрын
@@DanSands1 An Audi S5 is just as fun to drive and faster. Exterior styling is subjective, I think they're both beautiful. I made this decision based off interior styling, lastest tech, more room, more horse power, quicker 0-60, all advantages to the Audi. Audi's handling and all wheel drive are both top notch, so there's honestly really no true advantage for the Giulia, other than it's a bit cheaper. But value wise, the S5 wins hands down.

An excellent review, as have been the long term videos. I've owned a Giulia since 2019. At the time, I chose the Alfa Romeo Giulia Super Sprint (+ many options) as a company car (from Jaguar XE, BMW 3) because of how it drives and how makes you (and any passengers) feel every time you travel in it. Only a few relatively minor software issues, but otherwise very reliable. Everyone who travels in it says how safe and comfortable it feels on the road. Perfect driving position. I do wish (sometimes) that the accountant/tax rules here in Belgium would have allowed for a Veloce, but the car is more than fast enough for most daily conditions and situations.

I wouldn't call it underrated, since every review has said much the same: brilliant to drive, looks gorgeous, a bit old school in terms of features, but I think I understand what you mean. It doesn't sell in anywhere near the numbers it deserves. The flip side of that is that, as pointed out, it has a certain cachet because not many people drive one, but I do feel sorry for Alfa. They really put effort into this car and it shows and I doubt they've made the money on it they should have. One slight flaw this car has that wasn't mentioned is to do with the gearshit paddles: yes they're lovely, but they're also in the way of the indicator and windscreen wiper controls! You have to reach around the paddles. I guess it wouldn't be a real Alfa without something stupid about it. Another flaw is that the door sills are really large and water gets underneath the doors; still outside the door seal to be sure-there's no ingress into the car-but it means the door sills always get dirty very quickly! Another thing that never seems to get mentioned, but I think it's important, is that it has double wishbone suspension up front. You won't find this on any of its rivals and I am sure this contributes to the car's great handling. As for the wind noise, yes I guess it's there, but if I have the radio on volume setting 10 (which isn't very loud) I don't notice it.

Hi I've been following Jame's longterm review amongst other reviews on the Giulia. I'm in agreement with James's opinion of going for the Veloce spec. I went to the local dealship yesterday in Willenhall, West Midlands on Friday. I was disappointed to only see 1 model on show which says a lot for not seeing many Gulias on the road. However, I was able to have a good look at the Estrema. It was lovely. I sat in every seat and I was tingling. On the various reviews I'd watched I was aware some countries have a Q4 version. I was disappointed to learn no offering of this in England. I'm concerned how this car copes with the wet and snow being rear wheel drive. Has this car needs to be an all-rounder in all weathers could you give me feedback on driving in the rain? Looking forward to a reply and comments. Thanks V

‘With a good quality set of tyres it’s absolutely fine in the rain. I picked the car up in November and drove it all the way through winter with no problem at all. Granted, we didn’t have any snow, but if you’re concerned about that then a set of winter tyres will help hugely. In fact, a RWD Giulia on winters could well be better in the snow than an AWD Giulia on regular summer tyres. It’s a great car, don’t let winter performance concern you!’ JD

Hi Vince, I know the Willenhall Stoneacre branch well. I live in Wolverhampton. I bought my wife’s Stelvio from there. I know the Estrema you went to see. It’s the red one! Superb. I have a Giulia Veloce and it’s ace in the rain. Never had slip. I have a new 22 reg model and this comes with the limited slip differential which really helps. In my opinion don’t get a Veloce without the LSD. There’s too much power and toque going to the rear wheels - you need the LSD. I used to have a Giulia Quadrifoglio, it was immense and the sound was the out of this world: that’s the only thing I feel Veloce needs- a better sound track. You could fix this with an aftermarket exhaust. But the QF had too much power for the real world. The Veloce is plenty quick at 280bhp, it’s not mind blowingly fast but in the right gear it’s rapid and it’ll certainly make you smile. Best Wishes

I consider the German rivals to be unreliable, designed to turn into money pits after the warranty expires. My partner's 328i even had mediocre handling and dead steering. It required Lemforder control arms and Bilstein struts to begin to feel like a sports saloon.. So if the Alfa can stay out of the workshop, it may be worth considering.

Alfa Romeo produces vehicles with sexy appearance, but sadly hardly anyone actually buying those, as e.g. Mercedes sell about 25000 units each month in the US, Alfa Romeo 1500. Who knows how long Stellantis will tolerate these numbers, there are some rumors out there, that even the end of the Alfa Romeo production is on the table.
@Leelee-eu7je2 жыл бұрын
You are correct. Tonale is the last chance for Alfa to prove it can appeal to the mass market currently dominated by the German brands. If it fails with poor sales like Giulia and Stelvio its difficult to see Stellantis going to keep ploughing in millions of Euros to keep alfa goin if too few people actually buy their cars.

10 mths in to my ownership of a new QV and I absolutely still love it BUT 99.9% of the the time it is a complete waste as my commuter and digital av speed camera heavy driving just means the power and handling is a waste. Fuel economy of under 19 is poor; already gone through 1 set of tyres; and due a first service after only 9k miles. A Veloce may be a far better option. But then there is that 0.1% of the time when there car is worth it..........
@richardwild762 жыл бұрын
I had suspected that might be the case for the QV; that the power is largely unusable, except on the track. I can't compare the two but I can confirm the Veloce's power is well suited to the road. And on a motorway trip the other week I managed to average 45mpg which was much better than my expectation.

Sadly on a twisty road almost every other car will always be slower then any giulia.... I find myself wishing that those drivers of 911s in front would just park the car instead of driving a racing line just to stay 'faster' then my slow giulia... (911 is faster in a straight line, and with a decent driver probably as fast in corners...). But the giulia is creepy fast even with stock tires and a numb head linke me on the steering... It's just incredible predictable and sharp like a knife on turn in, forgiving mid turn... And mechanical grip is beasty for a saloon... This thing is by far the fastest cornering car I have driven to date, and that comparison includes a heavily optimized 240sx (180SX). With RSR Semi Slick tires... 🙈 - the Nissan is verry close maybe slightly faster in the dry, but RSR 235s is a hardcore tire for such a light car (1100kg). My giulia sits on 225s Continental Standard tires... And is not measurable slower.

Because this is a car that you buy with your head not heart. And there are loads of cars you can buy with your head. Look at 12 year-old guiletta, it still looks original, probably drives worse than competition but people still buy it. Giulia on the other hand is just another good looking sedan, not beyond its time. It will age same as any c class or 3 series. I think lexus sedans and civic mark 10, is more different than crowd, which Alfa should also have been.

I've considered one of these beautiful cars only recently but the negatives out weigh the positives for me, firstly the reliability issues but I admit these may well be exaggerated? Second the nearest dealer is about 40 miles away and as we only have one car we could be stuck without transport if the dealer needed to keep the car for whatever reason, also not convinced they have the technical ability to fix anything complex but I still keep looking on Auto Trader most days.
@kellym3893 Жыл бұрын
Another negative in my opinion is boot/trunk design. While most cars of this size are notched out to the left and right behind the rear wheels too (I believe) accommodate a golf bag, Alfa decided to place the battery in a compartment behind the right wheel making it nearly impossible to put a golf bag in the boot/trunk (I was never able to accomplished this with my golf bag) without putting the seats down. A car like this should accommodate at least one set of golf clubs in the rear easily.

Alfas have always been stunning cars to look at and drive. Got to say though this one for me misses the mark. Its just not different enough esp the rear which could easily be any other european car I think new a alfa is a great option with warranty but a 7 plus year old one would be a huge gamble for anyone as the reliability stigma will never go away. I bought a '69 GtJ in 83 with the few money I had, I still have it and I don't count the constant requests to buy it. I'll never sell it, of course. These types of cartoonist reviews are so 1970, yet all current youtubers are guilty. 280 hp is overkill, everything above 200 hp is overkill, when are you going to ever use it. More important for real people points of view is to focus on fuel efficiency, torq power and soupleness of the engine and gear switching, handling of the car, comfort and day to day usability and price quality ratio.

From 156 onward, there are no issues on that side. For the Giulia I'd stay away from the diesel engines, they're far from the bulletproofness of the previous JTD/JTDm engines. But (as like as for any car after the E4 pollution standards introduction) you must respect the maintenance (and not the ridiculous 25000km oil change intervals, or the "for life" transmission oil).
