I own a 2016 Tuono 1100RR & it is an amazing motorcycle. Totally agree with the feedback on the quick-shifter (which operates as smooth as butter) as it does come into its own on the highway or when your riding hard around twisty roads. The fueling gets better as your break the bike in especially riding at lower speeds (15-20km). I've had it for 3 months & now given its first service at 1,000KM and let me tell you that once you hit over 7,000 revs it turns into a different bike. It's a monster. It has been built to go fast no doubt & moving this above 7,000RPM into 10,000 from 1st - 2nd - 3rd - 4th - 5th it is as close as I'll ever come to riding a MotoGP bike. The chassis is brilliantly built and the balance it provides is sublime. It makes me a far better rider than I am & that alone speaks to how well this bike has been guilt. If any of the readers here are thinking about getting one.............you won't be disappointed.

how's the slow speed tight cornering and low speed engine braking? I have a gen1 z1000 now and my only complaint is super abrupt engine braking and jerky throttle at sub 30mph, it's impossible to get a smooth entrance under 30 mph.
@gabrieljohannson67778 жыл бұрын
everss02 hey mate. Low speed maneuverability is very good. The chassis design is much to thank for that. Well balanced bike mate. You will have no issues there. The turning circle however is not great. This can catch you out but you soon realize it isn't a 650 or say an MT-07 or MT-09 in terms of overall steering circle ability. The engine breaking is flawless. The slipper clutch is a work of engineering art. I've just clocked down the gears without flaw, concern or fear. It doesn't lock up or shake abruptly. The issue you refer to of jerky throttle at sub 30mph was a real concern I had but this isn't part of the 2016 TuonoRR make up. What I did notice when I first got the bike (it had Zero km/mph on the clock) was shaking at speeds below 15Km (10 miles). I've put 750km (466 miles) on the clock now and this issue has disappeared. The new model Tuono has had its fueling re-mapped and improved. The sales guy told me to expect the bike to settle in & he was correct. I can ride around at low speed with out any shaking at the front end or the sensation of the bike about to stall. The real question this makes you ask is "does it like being kept at such low speeds?" The answer is No. It gets hot quicker (max heat has been 106 degrees Celsius = 222 Fahrenheit). The other thing you notice is that the bike will want to accelerate above 10 miles per hour. In all truth this should not surprise anybody. Around town you will have no issues with the 2016 TuonoRR 1100 model and when you take it out of town you will have the biggest grin from ear to ear. Go check one out mate.

Gabriel Johannson I was thinking about the 2017 model but this I could get it a lot cheaper than the newer one , that alone only missing the down shifter cruise control and new TFT display Damn Seems a lot after I typed that over $2500 more for the new one.
@gabrieljohannson67777 жыл бұрын
The 2017 has some great updates or rather feature upgrades. The TFT and down-shifter are easy pickings and no real surprises. The bigger breaks are definitely value adds but all things considered, the 2016 model is an excellent machine and you are dead right, you can pick one up much cheaper than a 2017 model. You will still have loads of power at your wrist and a brilliant motorcycle. Enjoy. Respectfully G. PS: just looked at the original comment & it was 7 months ago. Rest assured that the bike gets better beyond the 5,000KM mark. It's coming into its own as all elements get settled down.

Zack, I know this is an old review and you've likely realized your monumental mistake by now. You arrived at the entrance of the Motorcyclist Magazine offices and you made no effort to try to back it in. As a Tuono owner, I all too well understand the intoxicating power that the v4 engine can have and how it can lead to momentary lapses in judgement. I hope you have seen the light and won't allow this egregious oversight to happen again.

This is the same reason that I've limited myself to my 200... aside from the fact that I can't afford a Tuono. I'm a throttle happy man, and my 200 let's me be as throttle happy as I want without breaking 90 mph.

I wish Aprilia was more popular in the Southeastern US, but there are few dealers. We are a hot bed of motorcycle popularity. Ducati, BMW, Victory, Harley, and all the Japanese bikes have dealerships close to their buyers. Maybe if Aprilia would build a smaller cc entry level bike, they could build a base.

It's funny, I was doing EXACTLY what you mentioned. I have a Monster S4R and an Fz1... I love both of those bikes but I've been drooling over the Tuono... and it 2017 the quick shift has auto-blip for the DOWN shift as well! I have 2016 TF and the mode button is a little confusing. And the modes T track R race and S street are a little confusing as to how much power is delivered to rear wheel and changed by a tap of starter button. But in time you figure it out. And fun. Yes it is a very fun bike to own and ride.
@joeridestrijcker4458 жыл бұрын
are the modes so confusing?? S (sport, street...) for more linear throttle response... T (track) and R (race) for prompter throttle response, with the R also standing for 'reduced' engine braking; on the street I always use S, at the track always R (unless there's a good reason to use more engine braking, which I don't have yet) and I find little reason to change it while riding.... , what annoys me the most is the extremely slow response time from the onboard computer when scrolling or tapping...

sweet - let us know how she goes sub 40-50km/hr (whatever that is in miles) - on my s2r1000 i changed out the physical throttle cam for a non-linear version to improve smoothness down low, not sure if this is just a 'ducati thing'... but guess same could be achieved much easier in ECU with throttle-by-wire now.. so presumably Street Mode has this solved. Great series btw (MC garage also)!

definitely helped - also pulled out lambda sensor & turned off in ECU (guzzidiag) then reflashed, i think ducati tend to lean em out under ~3.5k to pass Euro emissions which, at least on this bike, seemed to add to the jumpy-bumpy responsiveness issue. Buttery smooth now : )

I was looking at tuonos again, because of that exhaust noise.... Sometimes you sound disappointed in the bike, like it has no purpose.

Nice, but why does a bike with a fairing always get referred to as a naked?

Digging these vids. Where are you pulling the 14.6 number from? My buddy was looking into one of these or a SD and they were both in the 16s. Not fact checking, just want a dealer name. I'll drive out to Cali, I want me a Tuono. (mostly kidding)

Doh, no you nailed it. I was reading RR and just not processing it. Some journalists I follow love to rant about how Aprilia seems compelled to bury some of the best bikes on the market under alphabet soup. Guess this is an example of that.

Ive had my 2016 Tuono 1100RR for 2 days now, I love the bike and also hate the bike, Im finding the bike really jerky and struggling at low speeds? sometimes when Im pulling away in first it sounds like Im trying to take off in 3rd, did you ever have this issue? does anyone know what the best setting etc is good for city riding?

MrFunkatronik restore all aprc factory settings and check that the correct tyre circumference/transmission ratio has been correctly learned by the ecu (it's the same procedure recommended when you change the tyres). I have the feeling that it could be something about the traction control.
