Love BMW's, this new 7 is the best looking one since the E38. BMW don't really do overt luxury like Benz, but their cars are still very comfortable, and a pure joy to drive. The interior of the BMW is quiet restrained and understated, the Benz's interior is like a knock out blow, full on in your face luxury. So it's a matter of: Do you like to drive, and enjoy your driving? Or do you like unrivalled comfort, and the drive is a necessary part of getting there. These car's appeal to two very different buyers, with very large bank balances...So we need not debate reliability, as the owners of these vehicles can afford the added servicing costs, and will be shot of them before the real money issues need addressing.

+Mark Law you clearly don't know whats luxury if u think the s class is luxurious, leather and crystals( also known as just GLASS ) and cheap kind of wood is not luxury, leather is for valets and chauffeurs so they don't ruin your interior, real luxury is gold and rare hides and velvet and diamonds, SMH you know nothing
@marklaw44359 жыл бұрын
+Club Bmw Amg : Well if I have no idea of "Whats Luxury" then please instruct me, what is your suggestion, Rolls Royce, Bentley or Bugatti maybe? No not Bugatti, as currently she doesn't Manufacture Luxury Cars. Gold's (over) use in a car is quiet Crass, over powering, and Hideous. Wealthy (Billionaire) Western Taste, run to my list above, the idea of understated Luxury. Please enlighten me, as I'm obviously in the exulted presence of true wealth and exceptional taste. As for Rare Exotic Hides, do you suggest Saiga Antelope, Rhinoceros, Elephant, or Blue Whale....Velvet, is that Artificial or Real, and Diamonds, Really? I'd have thought Ruby, Emerald or Sapphires would be considered more exotic than a Diamond. Diamond is a strictly controlled commodity, to ensure its value stays high, even though it it one of natures more common geological creations. It is just advertised as rare, the Oppenheimer's have seen to that. Rolls used Silk in their Serenity Phantom, I assume that is where you got your idea of Leather being Common, only for use up front for the Chauffeur, just as in the late 19th early 20th centuries. Mercedes S Class and BMW's 7 series are considered the cream of the automotive world, yes Rolls and Bentley are Ultra expensive Cars, but they cater to a very select cliental, but not necessarily the worlds wealthiest individuals. Quiet often the seriously wealthy use S or 7 armoured, as they also have Helicopters and Executive Jets as transport options. In some cases, they have a Heli Port on their Properties or Yacht. But again, please instruct me, as I obviously need lessons in Uber Luxury and good Taste.

+Club Bmw Amg : So your into Custom Cars! You are more than likely of Arab Persuasion. That's fine, but we of Western Culture consider your likes/desires to be too much excess, particularly your taste in cars. Western Society wouldn't consider doing their cars up like you obviously do, they have No Value Over Here. As for Clear Diamonds, yes I know about them, you really need to be specific, when making comments. You are Quiet Vague. Are Clear Diamonds Used In Headlight Construction? No They Aren't. But yes, Swarovski Crystal is, but very limitedly. Are you of The Royal Family.......No not possible. As Royals Don't Act/Behave like the Commoner you are. I'm the one left SMH.

I have seen a trend since the 1980s , The Merc has had a much longer life span. They had a bad patch from 1999 to 2005 when they were not reliable. Even today if you look around there are a lot more old S classes on the road compared to 7 series. I have no doubt in my mind that this 7 will give plenty of headaches to its owners just like the previous iterations, however as a drivers car its no contest. It beats the S class , but as a luxury car the S is still king.
@95mushroom9 жыл бұрын
+Fahed Sayed While I'm not trying to discredit your reliability thesis, the reason you see many more S-Classes, has to do with sales. The S-Class has been the sales champ for a long time. In fact for calendar year 2014 (15MY), the S-class out sold ALL its competitors, (the 7-series, A8, XJ, etc), COMBINE! There were 3x times as many S-classes sold as 7-series, its next closest competitor.
@fahedsayed22019 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right S class outsells the competition but after having spoken with mechanics working for their main dealership garages and getting the feedback from respective owners it was very easy to deduce that S class is more sound mechanically. There is a bloody good reason why the S class outsells them all despite being more expensive. Luxury is 1 but on top of that in my humble opinion it is built to a higher standard.
@Syntage889 жыл бұрын
+Fahed Sayed The S class is substantially more reliable because they tend to put in what they know will work instead of what's cutting edge technology. You'll see more toys and cool tech in a 7, but the Benz has what works. The 7 might be a little more fun at first because of that, but the S will be the car that you can drive 10+ years later and still feel like you're a big shot. Sure you can probably afford a Rolls Royce if you can buy an S600, but if you don't care about projecting wealth but still feel like you've made it - the Benz is the way to go.

Very nice review! Two years ago I purchased a 2016 740Li M Sport with the Executive Package and more. It had 42k miles on it. It was previously sold twice as a CPO BMW. The dealer received the car on 12/31/2015. I believe it was a showroom model then a demo, or loaner, car. Eventually sold as a lease car later in the year. Beautiful sedan, very sophisticated. I own a 97' e39 540 which I love. Problem is these vehicles are so very expensive to maintain. Otherwise, I think BMW could increase sales with a more affordable marketing/ownership experience. Cheers!

I don't see how the S class is better than the 7 series. To my eyes, the front of the Benz looks really ugly. The 7 series looks superb and the interior/technology is just mindblowing. BMW wins by miles.

MotoMan's New Joeysian cousin is back!!! You skipped her on purpose when you showed her predecessors, didn't you? . . . ;) Gotta say, The White with black trim M sport grew on me once I watched your review! Looks soooo mean! Who would've thought a 4600 pounds luxury sedan would drive so well on a race track? You don't see that one coming! The SkyLounge & that LED thingy on the rear doors are beyond cool! No need to choose between a Panoramic roof or SkyLight headliner anymore! .... I'm guessing its only a matter of time before they appear in the next Phantom & the upcoming "High Terrain Vehicle". The iDrive, simply put... is the best in the business ... Knob? Got it, Touch? Got it, TrackPad? Got it, Steering Wheel buttons? Got it, Voice Commands? Got it, Remote Control? Got it ... And I Raise You FRICKIN GESTURES!!!! So many input methods that makes you speechless & wonder what are those crazy Germans gonna come up with next? Love the hole pattern on the B&W speakers, I was wondering how they are gonna pull it off, the B&O way or the Burmester way ..., they chose the latter & I approve! Granted no stunning swirling speakers, but man they look good, hope they sound as good as they look ... I bet. Mean while, Cadillac is sticking with Bose & those stupid cheap looking traditional black speaker grilles ... The new Panaray system better sound like you are sitting in Carnegie Hall ... Johan, you have to do something about this. The ExecutiveLounge seats looks reeeeeaaaallly comfortable... Once you get her in LA, take her to In&Out Burger . . . ;) As for your question, I look for Craftsmanship, excellent interior design, High-end Materials, Comfort, Road Manners & Presence. Overall Performance is a must of course, and oh boy both the 750Li & S500 both deliver! 44x Horses & about 500 ib-ft give or take Technology is a byproduct in the flagship segment, you know you gonna get it either way regardless of your choice ... Unless of course you went with the Lexus . . . :P As for the construction & chassis methods, honestly I didn't start paying attention to it until recently. And now I'm curious to see how Dave's latest gonna stack up against BMW's Carbon Core I got one question, The Exhaust note? Was it the 7er or the camera car? Love the Episode M & as always, excellent work!!! Oh btw, thank you for including her . . . :D

My parents are looking between the S-class, 7-series, KS, A8, used Bently, etc. The main thing we're looking for is comfort for 4 adults on long trips. Safety technology is also very import and they're interested in things like night vision and blind spot detection. Basically they want a very comfortable, rolling living room. So good quality materials and ergonics and anything that makes riding and driving relaxing. The gesture control in the BMW looks like a gimick that's technology for technolgies sake. Isn't it easier to change the radio with a button or control on the steering wheel or dash than waving your fingers around? For pure driving and riding comfort and luxury, which car would you get?
@maxpowers37329 жыл бұрын
+Immanuel John I'm very impressed with the S class, but wanted to hold off buying anything until we had the chance to look at the new BMW. Even though I thought the A8 was a wonderful car I thought the new 7 series would be better just because of production methods and technology. What didn't you like about the BMW?

+maxpowers3732 Having driven my fair share of Audi A8's, BMW 7's, Jags and S-Classes I can without a shadow of doubt say that if what you're looking for is unprecedented luxury, comfort, reliability, prestige and overall appeal then the S-Class is the way to go. If I had to choose my favourite it would be the S500e or the S600. No question, no contender, no compromise, The Best or Nothing

At initial impression after the launch of the new 7, I was more like, oopps, BMW blows it, but after detailed look through, especially the M Sport version, I was quite impressed by it, BMW may well stop marketing the 7, because they turn me off with their marketing campaign of Driving Luxury, its so unbelievable bad for the way they present this car, they destroy the image of their flagship, more than drawing the crowd. As for why I made the 180 degree turn to liking this big sedan, here are the reasons 10 reasons why the 7 is more suitable than the S Class 1. The S looks a elegant lady, but the 7 looks more muscular 2. The S Class looks more stylish and elegant, but the 7 is more serious and thoughtful on design, they didn't skim on the materials either, they are top notch 3. The S concentrates on placing traditional aluminum to lessen fat, BMW goes one better by incorporating carbon fibre on it 4. The new S was more about executing ideas better, the new 7 is more about introducing newer ones, even the keys are cool. 5. The S gear lever placement is a major no no for people who likes to drive, you can easily mistaken it as windshield wiper swtich, or a signal light switch (if you are used to Japanese cars) 6. The Brake Hold function on the Merc are on the brake pedals, but you definitely need to take another look that you step hard enough in order to ensure it activates 7. The S instrumental panel may be very elegant, but the 7 is more appealing to drivers, its instrument panels are both stylish, and direct, and its kind of cool 8. The 7 is also tech savvy, even things that looks more like nuisance like gesture controls in the first place, may ended up to be more suitable for drivers since safety is their priority 9. The S Class utilizes interior LED lighting to create a great environment, which is very nice, but the 7 offers equally well thought out welcoming carpet and LED moonroof. 10. The only thing that S Class really beats the 7 is Mercedes did a hack of a job of marketing the S, BMW, on the other hand, pretty much screws the 7, they may as well kept the car under wraps, and let the dealers present to their customers instead.

Great review! Don't really get the point of gesture control. It seems to miss some gestures and requires you to do it again. Seems easier and less distracting to use the touchscreen, iDrive controller, knobs/buttons on dash, or voice, which makes the gesture control a waste of engineering. The luxury, details, and tech in this car is what would make me consider this car.

well the first time I road in a BMW, it was the seats that hugged me at every turn. I wasn't being jerked around, held down by a seat belt. It was the interior design of lights and cup holder I believe.. faint memory. But this car. This has a lot of luxury in the back seat,compared to the older one I referred to. Here the guest can spoil them self. A host with out a host. I'm all about the hand gestures! Hands free activation with out having to speak is great. I would like to multi task as much as possible. And the pull of the car is the most important to me, looking back on the seats that hug, Having a heavy foot isn't as dangerous as it used to be! Compared to turning corners in a Volt's Wagon Jetta, lol I can't find the words. I can't wait to see the 2017

+Thabang Mokoena The only way to know is to drive both for a while and check out the options. I think the night vision system on the BMW looks like shit and it's pointless as you have to take you eyes off the road to actually see it. I think the option alone is $3k. The rear view has a wide field of view which is important as narrow makes it where you cannot see the sides. The laser headlights look luxurious. It's like 4K UHD vs 1080p HD. The comfort and performance modes are great and there an adaptive mode. I haven't tried the new Mercedes but I did try the S550 2009 and it was too tight and old fashioned. I tried the 2015 SL550 and thought it was old fashioned too. BMW is more 2015 looking inside and feel wise 100%. The steering was pristine smooth.

The 750d (2015) (yes a Diesel/hybrid) comes with 750 NM Torque. Been driving in one (not my own) for some time now and the pulling power with X-Drive is immense for such a "heavy" car. About 4.4 Sec 0-100 Km/t (62 Mph). The iDrive is excellent. For limo driving is not a soft car and it´s a challenge to modulate a soft driving style. For faster paced dynamic driving it is excellent - Though the brakes does not inspire super confidence IMO. Seats got plenty of options for finding a perfect position. I do not like the rather narrow entry to the front seats, especially to he drivers seat - Hammered my leg to the lower dash a few times. I Like the Stick mode select it helps connect with the car, heads up display and other systems works really well and this car get some street respect from other drivers. Would one choose a 7 Series over a S class, yes properly some would. The 7 Series has a very stringent and modern clean appearance - it holds slightly back on the extrovert emotional factors of exterior design and gains some seriousness through this approach. in Comparison the S-Class says more directly Luxury but might also be slightly more on the vulgar side of see me in town. The 7 Series expresses more speed and efficiency while the S class is far more emotional and more muscular. In fact I would say that in choice the is really no news under the bridge between the classic and essential factors between Mercedes and BMW. The choice overall is a subjective one...

This car will finally take on the Mercedes S class imo. The exterior is beautiful, performance is amazing and interior is a massive upgrade from the previous 7. It feels like BMW has finally made the 7 somewhat exclusive. The previous 7 was just a glorified 3 series.
@Alb1122339 жыл бұрын
The Design it has not changed much! You can now compare the luxury of this 7series with the S-Class, but the Mecedes has more elegance in shaping the interior and the atmosphere in the S-Class is more 'warm'. - Regarding the Engines, we can say that both this vehicles are very reliable but Mercedes in general is just a little bit more reliable than BMW's. - The Chassis is a great evolution for this kind of luxury sedan's but we should not forget that this 7 Series is newer than the S-Class. Also, Mercedes with S-Class has a great history that dates decades before BMW created the firs luxury car, and this is a very important fact.

+MotoManTV The self driving of the S class and the interior design is one of the best if not the best in the industry now, bmw has made an amazing car here but my heart is going for the S class from everything i ve seen with it, it feels special and blows your mind away when you look inside one

+Pholela Mapeyi That's just one innovation BMW can lay claim to. Mercedes-Benz has been at the forefront of innovation since its inception over 150 years ago. ABS, Autonomous braking, ESP, Infrared cruise control, etc. I'm not trying to say that BMW is a bad car, but I think you can agree that it's never REALLY been a contender in the upper echelon of what is considered to be luxury.

Comes down to style and taste. For me, the BMW has the more sporty persona, which understates the luxury aspect somewhat. That's more my style vs the S class.

I don't think you can argue looks since everyone has different taste but you can argue technology, performance and luxury the 7 is quicker and has more technology but the S is more luxurious, I'll take the 7 cuz it's more advanced and it has just enough luxury, I don't wanna fall asleep while I'm driving. Plus where I'm from the s class is pretty played out, Bmw's warranty is wayy better they cover just about everything except tires and they offer a minimum of 10k miles on the lease, rather then the S class which is 7,500 miles and everything from brakes down to oil change is all on you. You really can't go wrong with ether considering the fact that you are just one class below Bentley and RR.

The answer of your question is that I would choose BMW 7 Series. Cause it is the car that would give best of the both worlds. I mean S-Class is all about luxury, An Audi A8 is not perfect in either luxury or driving dynamics. But the 7 is just perfect. You can drive like Jason Statham in The Transporter 1 movie and would not end up getting killed. If you love driving, you got to have a BMW.

for a luxury sedan and has a lounge-like rear seat. loss if you drove yourself. for this class is almost 90% and its owner using a personal driver.
@utm42199 жыл бұрын
+Hendra Di True that! But where I live (Dubai), 85% of the owners of this class, drive themselves. And 97% of the 7 Series owner drive themselves. Not just this class, but also the Ghosts, Mulsannes and other cars are self-driven here.

I'd still take the S Class any day. Same carry over V8 that eats oil like a pig. Look at how many owners had issues with the N63 and N63TU with eating oil, heat soak and draining batteries. It's a shame because it probably drives amazing and feels great doing down the road but reliability needs to be upped here.
@sperlongatours9 жыл бұрын
+Djonkie Bonk that engine is only good in the m series, because there are more intercoolers and its more reliable, if you want the v8 twin turbo its actually better to get the m car, less problems than 550 or 750
@sperlongatours9 жыл бұрын
Djonkie Bonk but you know what, where are you from, because ive also heard bmw engines burns oil when the gas quality is poor that's how it saves the engine, here in USA the gas quality is good so every bmw I had never consumed any oil at all if I always 91 premium gas from mobil or shell gas stations, I had E39 540, I had E46 M3 and E60 M5, never had any of them burn any oil at all not even a little bit, now I have 2015 S63 amg and im waiting for the new panamera to come out with all touch screen buttons inside like the new 918, but anyways I never had oil problems with bmws ive had, what I would suggest for someone with V8 twin turbo is to upgrade your exhaust to a bigger one so its easier for the turbo engine, it will make more noise tho but should keep the engine problem free for longer and if you can add a sport intercooler
@sperlongatours9 жыл бұрын
Djonkie Bonk btw also I knew someone with a 335i E90 and he would always fill up at Costco gas station and would complain about the car burning a lot of oil 1 liter per 1000km and I told him go to shell and always use shell premium gas and once he started to always use shell his car stopped burning oil, it even says in the bmw manual I think that if the gas quality is bad then the car will need to have oil changed sooner, but when they mean is the oil will burn up in the engine because there isn't enough octane in the gas u are using
@IKhanNot9 жыл бұрын
Club Bmw Amg Yep Costco gas is junk and burns far less efficiently so you're not saving any money at all. Happened to my cousin's Acura TL with the 3.7. Messed up the catalytic converter and knock sensors. Warranty won't cover it because my cousin admitted to using Costco gas. I live in Canada (Toronto) and the best gas would probably be Shell 91 octane. I use that in my MB and get far better range than if I used 91 or 93 Petro Canada or Esso. I also toss in a bottle of Techron concentrate every 6 months.

Still like the Benz S-Class better. Bmw still looks the same as 2004. Just nice touches. They can't change too much because of RR but still. Even Audi looks better. Well, to each is own. Can't until Cadillac makes there flagship. Change up the game a little.

Yesterday I took my Subaru legacy in for an oil change and saw a BMW 750 il and decided to test drive it . 4 hours later the Subaru was sold and I now own both the lexus 460 and the BMW can't wait to see how the higher horse power and $20,000 more BMW handles .NEVER AGAIN will I own a Mercedes terrible money pit , poor handling at breakneck speeds and not a driver's car (500 series)

This is like 2 levels beneath the new s class. At least. Maybe 3 though because of the s class maybach. But it is a beautiful performance luxury car though. Well done bmw.
@jamviator9 жыл бұрын
+hans peter Oh please, you're obviously biased. This 7 is leaps and bounds ahead of the s-class in technology and features, leaps and bounds better in driving dynamics, and i'm willing to bet that it will be just as good in driving comfort. As more reviews start coming out you'll see what i'm talking about. BMW focused on comfort more for this 7 series but still kept the driving superiority by introducing weight-saving, aerodynamics and predictive technology. Everybody who is not biased admits that this 7 is better than the s-class in technology and driving dynamics and equal in build quality yet you think it's "3 levels" beneath the s-class. Oh please, go get a life!

I truly don’t see how S Class could ever be better we all know the 50i is faster then s550 cloud ride vs air ride adaptive the rear lounge is way above s class.
