Shesez I agree. I have a later release of Buzz (I think the line came out somewhere between the first and second movie) that is basically a carbon copy of the original '95 Buzz and his head sculpt looks MUCH more screen accurate than the current one in my opinion.

I agree, even when it comes to build quality. We recently bought my son his 2nd buzz in less than a year cuz the head fell off the first one lol. The swivel feature makes it less rigid, its literally a fine threaded screw the width of the tip of a pen, and less than a 1/4 inch long

Yeah, the addition of caps to the screws is a MOST frustrating point for customizing. I encountered that on an electronic "Nightmare Moon" from MLP. I hate the fact that her wings are transparent purple, but Hasbro cheaped out with RED LEDs. I was going to swap purple ones in there instead, buuut... looks like I have to drill into it now. With this Buzz, were i to get him, i would HAVE to take him apart, recast the wings in trans purple, and reassemble him. In this case, aside from me not wanting a Buzz Lightyear figure and pretty much hating Disney, the inability to easily customize him would be a deal-breaker.

Jinzo Clash Yeah, Disney does a Lot of screwups recently, looking in your direction Starwars 8. But for me it is kind of nostalgic to see the old lightyear wich i had as a child. I watched Toy Story 2 when it came out in 1999.. I was 6 years old! Since I watched it for the first time I fell in love with the toys. The brilliant thing is watching this movie while being so young it made me believe it's true. This made the movie from being great to being magical. Since then I've probably watched this particular movie(toy story 2) hundreds of times on VHS. Now I'm 24 and I was visiting my little sister's room a week ago when i saw a buzz figure.. It brought to me so many memories back. I just spent 50$ to get all 3 movies in bluray and the ToyStory 3 game which I'm planning on playing with my little sis! Yesterday was Saturday night and I decided to dedicate the day to my childhood! I watched the first two movies and I was surprised I was still remembering all the lines from the characters. Realising it has been probably 14years since the last time I watched the movie.. to watch it back now and still get that same feeling. Amazing. I feel blessed for that random day back in '99 when my uncle visited us and brought with him a VHS cassette that was gonna define my childhood in so many ways and it would still have such a strong impact on me many many years later...

I actually have one of the old Buzz’s. Mine is from the early 2000s when I went to Disney World in 2003. He still works great. I always tried to take care of my toys and it shows with my Buzz and Woody. They still talk to each other and work great. My Buzz is actually different than both of these models. Mine has a few different phrases and buttons. My Buzz has a button on his belt and a button on his booster pack. Mine also has a spot on his arm for his communicator. And the laser is different. It blinks, makes a powering up sound, then fires a laser for a few seconds. Mine also has the same wings as the old Buzz. I think the version is my personal favorite. They are two of my most prized possessions. I have a lot of great memories with them.

supercomputer2004 the newer one has almost as many screws, but they’re capped with white plugs, so they’re difficult to see in this video. The downside to all the plugs; they’re basically impossible to remove without damaging them, so the 2016 is harder to repair than the 1995. Thanks for watching!

I love all the improvements made in the 2016 edition, but the original is very nostalgic for me. Wish I had my original still, but at least I've still got the 2016 version and that old Rescue Pack Buzz from Hasbro. Edit: I've just realized that the off-white Buzz that comes in a two-pack with Zurg is likely a reference to the older colors.

Ah this brings me memories from the good times. Back when I was a kid my uncles made me the entire toy story cast out of wood for my birthday and did a whole play with them just for me and my fellow 5 year old friends, we had borrow my brother's buzz because he already had one so it would be less work. I ended up losing those toys, only my brother's Buzz still remains, we even had tl fix his head with ductape because of time. I'll never forget my time with my toys, it was truly magical being a kid.

I remember getting the Woody and Buzz Lightyear toys when I was younger; at the time, I had a fascination of collecting Toy Story toys as they are seen in the movies. The Buzz Lightyear I got was the 2016 Buzz, and I also got a relatively recent version of Woody (this version still had the pull string on the back). I think seeing this video regained my interest in the Toy Story franchise (particularly during Pixar's independent years).

I agree that the purple and gray colors were not faded or darkened over time. I remember thinking the purple was a tad too dark when I got mine in 1995. The white part of the suit was also slightly gray from my memory also. Although I prefer the face of the 1995 version, the improvements to the 2016 version are pretty nice (those movie inaccuracies were rather disappointing as a kid). My friend had a silver version of the 1995 Buzz, and we traded them for a night or weekend once to see which one we liked more.

I just bought the signature edition buzz light year and that's THE buzz. It's so realistic and so close to the buzz in the films. I've fallen in love with it. I had the Disney exclusive buzz but found that it wasn't like the one in the movie so I gave it to a young family member who loves it and I saved my money to get the signature edition one.

10:48 I'm pretty sure that might just be an animation error, or a performance saving choice. You have to remember that each frame of Toy Story 1 took at least half a day to render, with 24 frames per second, for roughly 1 hour and 30 minutes. They may have just had it be slightly opaque to hide some lower resolution textures, that way it saved on resources and made the wings look more realistic with what little technology they had

Take it from someone who studies technology and rendering processes in his spare time, while these days something like Toy Story CAN be rendered at 30 FPS in a game format (kingdom hearts 3 for example), back then, it was much more expensive. To be honest, I'd estimate that some of their animation computers might've actually fried themselves while rendering frames for the movie. It's that time period's equivalent to something like CineBench, which is a benchmarking tool for PCs that stretch your hardware to the absoloute limits. The only downside is that, from my experience, it CAN and WILL fry your graphics processor if you don't have a decent cooling solution. And on top of all that, in the first movie, there ARE other areas where textures are lower resolution to save on resources. The most obvious being the Pizza planet truck. Although oddly enough, if Buzzes wings being semi transparent IS an unintentional side effect of an optimization process, then it's odd that the window Woody was climbing through isn't very opaque. It could just be that they didn't want a sticker on the window being opaque as well and decided to say "screw it" when they thought it wasn't possible with their current technology, or maybe only a certain number of opaque items could be in a scene at a time and they had Buzzes model loaded in 24/7 to save on loading times, who knows.

2016 version hands down. the 1995 one I had as a kid, and hated it, because it wasnt screen accurated. Wings looks horrible and has no communicator available. I have this opinion since 1998! haha

Does yours have a date stamped anywhere on it? I believe there may have been a fairly early thinkway version that had the wrist communicator. Maybe from 1998 or something? Perhaps there was another run very shortly after in 1995 or 96 with the communicator. Unfortunately, I’m not totally sure. Thanks for watching!

Missing features: - Karate Chop Action - Swivel Rubber Waist and Arm Joints - Longer Wingspan - Lights at end points of Wings - Laser that actually stays ON and works as a laser light that can shine on surfaces. The safe kind, but I guess that’s won’t be kid friendly. I use to know a trick on how to keep the Buzz laser light ON. All you had to do was as soon as you pressed the laser button, you pressed his talking button right after and the light would stay ON as long as you wanted. Played a lot with him as a kid. Also if you have an older Buzz Lightyear model, it’s most likely valued at least 500 on Ebay. You’re Welcome 👍🏻

I remember owning three of the early Toy Story toys as a kid (Buzz, Woody, and Slinky); I know my Buzz wasn't the 1995 version because not only did it have an opening wrist communicator, it also had this thing that attached to the jetpack (I have no idea what it was supposed to be). Omg There’s 2 or 3 new versions out this year! One the head turns while he talks (which is meh) and another one that’s the same without the head turning, but the blue button in the front panel is El Buzzo! Lol so good lol I used to have the 95 one and the chrome/black one the chrome/black one had the panel that opened up on his wrist and a button that made him say “Buzz lightyear to star command. Come in star command” And the helmet lit up when he spoke. Looking forward to your review

I'm always going to love the '95 Buzz as that's the one I grew up owning. I had several Buzz figures, but that original was always my favorite. I played with it to the point where the wing mechanism stopped working. Just hearing the '95 laser sound effect and the wingspan pop out brought back so many fond memories. I kinda wanna get a new Buzz just because they've finally put in those screen accurate features that I always wanted as a kid.
