Dick Pickles Pickup trucks get that on the highway, not in the city.
@OSTKCabal9 жыл бұрын
+Dick Pickles Umm. I think you need to look at those numbers again. An average truck or mid-to-large SUV is going to be extremely lucky to get 27MPG in pure highway cruising. The new Malibu gets that in stop-and-go city traffic, and up to 37MPG on the highway.
@438545869 жыл бұрын
+Dick Pickles Horsepower is horsepower. It doesn't matter if the power is coming from a 3.5 liter or a 1.5. The cars use turbochargers to make up for their lack of displacement. Thus when they're off turbo boost, they should consume that of a 1.5, when they're on turbo boost, more like a 3.5. You can't get power from nothing, gasoline has 32.4 megajoules of energy in 1 liter, it takes X amount of fuel + oxygen to make y amount of horsepower.

They were just using resistance sensors in the lock (a pot meter could be used to hack it), and I don't think they've changed it. (The immobiliser is the things that differentiate the keys, it just has to be like that since the shape of the key is the same)

I was wondering about fuel shutoff, an engine crankshaft is on hydrodynamic bearings. Meaning it has to spin to get subricated. The startup and shutoff of the engine is where you get the wear of these bearings. Using the shutoff technology at every redlights multiply by a huge factor the "normal" amount of start-stop cycles of an engine causing a faster wear of the components. Am I wrong or are the manufacturers using a different technology to avoid the phenomenon?

I don't know much about turbo setups, but can you explain the term "open wastegate" on a turbocharged engine? If you pull the hose off the wastegate wouldn't it be considered a "closed wastegate"? Or does "open wastegate" have a different meaning?
@FerpiliciousProducts9 жыл бұрын
So an open wastegate is essentially a closed wastegate. It allows the exhaust gas to pass through the exhaust wheel allowing your turbo to spin longer (creates excess heat not a good idea). The reason it's called open is cause the wastegate hose is open, not the wastegate. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but that's essentially the setup. You can also run an external wastegate and not have it recirc, which would essentially be an open wastegate in the literal sense. They're super loud, had the setup on my DSM.
@TCGuy029 жыл бұрын
Also, if you run an open wastegate, beside it creating too much heat, can you blow your engine from too much boost since the wastegate is not letting out excess gas? Or does it act somewhat like anti-lag to keep the turbo spinning and make you stay at a set boost pressure?
@FerpiliciousProducts9 жыл бұрын
+TC Guy it can go either way. Odds are your turbo would go before your motor. You can easily push out more psi, although you aren't tuned for it and asking for trouble.

something I do find funny is I had a Plymouth breeze, I had to sell it and miss it once in a while. it was a 1997, 5 speed manual, 2.0L, 4 doors, and when I sold the vehicle it had about 205K miles (I believe it still works for the new owners). In PA I could get 36 to 40 MPG but if I wanted to I could spin the wheels free in first and chirp in second. so not a speed demon, but my dad and I would get giggles with how it is 19 years old now and got actual mileage equal to or higher than most hybrid's EPA estimates (which seem to be typically 25% higher than what it actually ends up being). I am hoping hybrids get smart as they get better but I thought I would mention that some vehicles were made well enough that when cared for could have some fun, get good mileage, and since they are a decade or so old they are usually cheap to get ahold of

I'll bet Chevy is excited about this car. They get to charge mid-size car prices and save money using an engine from a Geo Metro, except unfortunately it wasn't designed by Suzuki. These small hardworking, more complex turbo engines sound great, but they Don't have the longevity and reliability of a larger NA 4 cylinder or especially a small smooth V6. My own Jetta 1.8L Turbo has had more problems than any NA gas engine car I've owned, and the best mileage it has gotten was 26mpg. I could have bought a Camry V6 for the cost of maintenance and repairs on the Jetta. I'm all for advancement, but there are better ways. Also what did Chevy save by cutting out all those holes on the suspension control arms, 1/2 pound, leave them solid and retain greater strength.

+ron mortensen You're comparing a German engine to an American engine. They're very, very different in their build quality and reliability; specifically because the VW Jetta is a small, low-cost German sedan that isn't particularly known for long-term reliability or dependability. Small turbocharged engines is the direction we're headed, like it or not. I don't see them as an issue at all.

+OSTKCabal "Small turbocharged engines is the direction we're headed, like it or not." speak for yourself im throwing a supercharger on my 01 540i sportwagon for 8k all in 538hp and 484lb ft from the otherwise stock 4.4l v8 also stock i get 15mpg if you want to bend over and let "progress" have its way with you then that's your choice lmao

+Adolf Hitler Alright, Hitler. I, for one, quite enjoy the way small turbocharged engines drive. Having the torque available at significantly lower RPMs is certainly nice for city driving.

OSTKCabal i have no problem with small turbocharged engines it is the way forward for reduced emissions and whatnot im a keen driver though so i prefer what gives me the power right now not in 1 second even 1/2 a second of lag is pretty MEH in my book i guess ive been spoiled by my current collection of vehicles which all have relatively big engines and are NA i get turbos can make really good power (and a nice noise too i like the anti-lag multi gunshot variety) the forward march of turbo progress is good for me though since 2 of my cars are investments and the more new cars that are turbo the more $$$ my investments will grow so yeah in that case TURBOS FOR EVERYONE :D

+Adolf Hitler I've studied cars for 36 years, and I remember how auto reliability suffered back in the late 70's and 80's due to, reduced emissions, and increased MPG requirements. A larger NA engine should at least be offered.

Is there anything Chevy has done to solve the heat problem of the turbo ? Will the turbo melt the engine in a long run ?

almost as fast as my v6 makes 0_60. in 6.1 seconds amaizing

@2:43 They don't want to because they don't expect bad things to happen. They take a calculated risk but the more important point is the freedom to do that.

Wtf is going on with teens these days. I mean is it "cool" not to wear one or are teens just lazy? You know what else is cool? Graduating college, landing your first big job, getting married, having kids, and retiring. It literally takes a 5 second to do and is well worth it

Not a Camry clone in styling like the previous model. I'd prefer a v6 option. I don't like turbo charging.

Really bums me out my '96 chevy pickup doesnt have "bluetooth" or a computer screen in the dash. No GPS. Amazing I can get from point A to point B. Same with my 2005 Impala SS. No bluetooth or computer screen.....what will I do?
@UnlimitedProduction18 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's a nice feature to have but not necessary. Still it's a nice car. What do you think about Impalas? I'm in the market for a car and was looking into an Impala actually

It is necessary if you are a convenient hipster instead of a hillbilly. =)

1980, my comment was made as a joke. They share nothing in common apart from the chevy emblem :) . New midsize vehicles don't come with V8's because 4-cyl makes the same power.

Eh a lot of European mid-size sedans have 1.6/1.5 engines, bit I do think generally they are a bit smaller than the US mid-size sedans (VW make a European Passat and a USDM focused Passat).
