Jeff great video and thanks for keeping up with the comments! I have a 2016 F150 with 98k miles. Just started happening to me yesterday same thing. Extremely violent and scary when it happens at 80mph on a TX highway, very dangerous… DTC Codes P0706 & P0707 & P1702. After doing some research when the transmission range sensor throws a fault the truck immediately shifts into 3rd gear and stays there until you park or turn the truck off. Once you turn the truck off (like your video) you can’t turn it back on…. Going to call the dealer tomorrow and see what can be done. Maybe Ms Lyons can help me too!

Thanks for the comment Nick. I never got the 1702 code, but maybe because I was having intermittent failure of the circuit. This should be a recall. My only hope is that more people submit their story to NHTSA and it becomes a recall.

my 2013 f150 gave me the Rench symbol so i pulled over and thinking just turn off then on to see if it reset it then the truck won't even turn over. I checked and got the PO707 and PO706 codes. not sure if it's the wiring harness or the Lead frame range sensor.

This happened to my 2012 ford mustang. A way i found to start the vehicle again is to take the key out, lock the doors while you're inside the car. Unlock it, put the key in the ignition and turn to the on position, press unlock on the fob again and try to crank. Might take a couple of times. Or, clear engine codes. Simplest way.
@rickmossop37334 ай бұрын
What I did to be able to use my truck until I could fix it was to wire a push button directly to the starter. On the occasions where it would not start I would turn the key to the run position and hit the push button and it would start.

As of yesterday, that’s exactly what my 2014 is doing. I tried clearing the codes but it seems like they come right back and I can’t start it. I didn’t try to start it as many times as the video I did get the recall fixed on it last week and now this happens

My 2016 F150 just done this yesterday, it was right after I left a drive through car wash, so I figured something got wet that didn't like it. That is the only time it has done it and hasn't done it since. Now I don't feel so confident that is was just a freak incident.

I’m having the same issue now with my 2015 f150 5.0 with 88k miles on it. I’m wondering if changing fluid and cleaning the lead frame could help?

It could but if you’re going to go through the trouble, you might as well replace the lead frame. Lasco ford has the lead frame for about $200 www.lascoautoparts.com/oem-parts/ford-al3z-7g276-d-2016-2017-2018-2019-ford-transit-valve-body-connector-in-stock-as-of-1-25-22-al3z7g276d?c=bD0xJm49U2VhcmNoIFJlc3VsdHMmYT1mb3JkJm89Zi0xNTAmeT0yMDE2JnQ9eGx0JmU9NS0wbC12OC1mbGV4

They had mine for about 4 days because the mechanic bent the pins on the connector and muffed up the the first lead frame. They had to order another lead frame and a pigtail to splice into the harness on the frame of the truck. I’d say best case, 2 days, worst case, a week.

Sorry to hear this…you’ll need to get the molded lead frame replaced (~$960 parts and labor). This part contains the range sensor that is giving false readings to the computer. Try to limp to the dealer, call ford corporate for financial assistance. They paid 60% on mine. My truck had 46K when it happened. Good luck!

My 2016 Ford F-150 just started having this problem. Would replacing the transmission range sensor fix it?
@jeffreyeyring2 жыл бұрын
The range sensor is integrated into the molded lead frame along with the output speed sensor. It’s a fabulous design whereby the metallic particles in the fluid accumulate on the sliding potentiometer and tell the computer to downshift at highway speeds. Good luck. Enter a complaint on NTSB, maybe it will eventually become a recall.
