2016 Ford F250 6.2 Liter P0355 Diagnosis And Fix

So here I have a 2016 Ford F250 with a 6.2 Liter engine. Customer states a/c does not work and blows warm. Well that it because the check engine light was on and shut off the a/c.
The code was a P0355 which is basically the circuit for coil number 5 ( driver front cylinder). So I ohmed out the coil. It passed with 1.4 ohms. Spec is .5-2.0. Then I checked for a short to power then a short to ground. All passed. Found a technical service bulletin for coil driver software update for coils.
Reprogrammed the pcm and cleared all codes. Test drove the vehicle while monitoring misfires and watching the power balance. I show you that on my handy dandy matco scan tool.
So before you go programming pcm's check the connector to see if it is loose, check for short to power and short to ground, ohm out the coil. If all that passes then if you have the capability to reprogram then do so.

My 2017 Ford F250 6.2L engine light came on and my Code was P0300. Multiple cylinder misfire. I changed all 16 spark plugs first and now have a tapping sound or arc sound with Code P0353 which is cylinder 3. Changed all the coil packs and still have tap sound. Checked the coil power coming in and ground is all good. Thinking it may need PCM update. Which bidirectional scanner has the Ford software ? Thanks. Great video.

352 is coil driver in the pcm. You can try updating the pcm if that doesn't work it will need a new one. I have a link for a good scan tool that you don't need a subscription for. Does ford vehicles. Programs modules. It's here amzn.to/4coVGCN

When you pulled the coil pack and put a plug in it and grounded it, did it still spark? I have a p0358 and I can put a plug in the coil and ground it and it’s got spark. Wondering if it’s my PCM or a broken valve spring at this point.

358 is ignition coil driver for cylinder 8. Go In the pcm and do a coil driver test. If it fails. Update the pcm. If it fails again. It needs a pcm

@@BeardedFordTech Thank you, will do. I don’t own a bidirectional scan tool, I am a Toyota technician and I use Toyota Techstream. I will have to either bring it to someone with IDS or the dealer, but if it was the coil driver, I figured I wouldn’t have spark…. I put a plug in the COP and grounded it with truck running, it had spark. That’s why I figured it has nothing to do with the PCM or coil pack…

@K_Bendel it would have spark for a little while. Then when the pcm realizes it's not firing like it should it triggers for it to stop so you don't ruin the cylinder

Hi Antony H, my F150 2007 5.4 has the P0353, it keeps blowing fuses (15a) i check voltage on dc range it shows 17v to 19v seams constant power, should i replace or reprogram ecu? Thanks for your video it is awsome

Hey there. I wouldn't replace or reprogram just yet. Have you replaced all the plugs and the coil for number 3? Check the wiring and connectors. Check for pushed out pins (wiggle test). You can remove the coil and ohm it out. If I'm not mistaken it should be less than 2 ohms. Try replacing the coil. Clear the code and do a power balance test if you have a scan tool that will do it. Below are the reasons for your code. It is rare for the pcm to fail in this situation. Several problems may cause a P0353 code including: A damaged or defective ignition coil Damaged, defective, or corroded ignition coil connector Damaged, defective, shorted, or corroded ignition coil driver circuit wiring Loose connection at coil Broken connector locks Damaged or defective ECM (rare)

I am having the P0355 (permanent code) on my 2013 F250 6.2L. The #5 coil is not getting any power, so I'm looking toward the Pcm. I brought it to a shop and told them about this issue that you described, and they said it needs a new PCM. They didn't try to reprogram the PCM, but I think instead read what Ford recommends. Is a PCM replacement the next step, or do you think they skipped over reprogramming. btw, they don't have a bidirectional tool, but he said they 'have a guy' that does that for them. Thanks

In my situation it worked to reprogram it so it gets the updated drivers for then coils. If it does it again then it will need a pcm.

In this video I used my Matco scan tool that has Ford IDS software on it. But a good after market one that is capable of doing it is this Foxwell GT60. What i checked is #2 primary coil plug with engine on does not pulsateing, this is the one i conect coil and blow fuse, already replace coil and hot wire goes straight to ecu pk-wt stripe, and red-gn stripe is grounded to the rest of ground coils, the other 7 coils does pulsating good, what advise can you give me, THANK YOU VERRY MUCH FOR ANSWER

Fault in the pcm coil driver. You may need a pcm replacement in this situation

If you keep getting a p0355. You need to update the coil drivers in the PCM. Is yours a f250 with a 6.2?

@@BeardedFordTech It's an F-350 with the 6.2L. The Ford dealer has had it 5 times in the last year and hasn't resolved the issue. It has 16 new spark plugs, 8 new plug wires from the coils to lower plugs, 8 new coils, 8 new fuel injectors, a new crankshaft position exhaust sensor, and new wiring from coil 5 to the PCM including the coil side plug end. I have IDS but neither I nor the Ford dealer can find any software update for the coil drivers. Maybe you are saying that the coil drivers psychically need updated inside the PCM.

Yes. Notice I said ac was blowing warm because "it was in limp mode" I fixed the p0355 which took it out of limp mode. So yes the ac works. If your ac isn't working doesn't mean that's the problem if that's what your getting at. Or if you have a p0355 then a reprogram should work. If it doesn't. It will need a pcm

I was just double checking. My a/c went out and then shortly after my truck is sending a P0353 code and has a misfire. I am going to look into purchasing a diagnostic tool to reprogram my pcm thanks.

You described my exact problem. 2004 Grand Marquis. Tried replacing all plugs twice, all coils, replaced #5 coil a second time. Still the same problem, and now the AC compressor stopped working. I've been to 4 Ford dealers and they wont even work on the car. Maybe I can show one of them your video and they can try what you did? Where is your shop? What city and state? Are you able to reprogram the vehicle's computer using the Matco scanner, or does reprogramming require Ford computer software, i.e. does a Ford Dealer or someone with a computer that has the Ford software program have to perform the reprogramming?

@@tompastian3447 if you have a matco scanner or know someone who does that has ford software (ids) and it's able to bidirectional (program modules) then they can do it. I purchased the ford software on my scan tool. It has to be bidirectional to program. Otherwise you can only pull codes and look at pids.

I just forwarded your video to Metro Ford Service Dept. The last time I was there was for this problem about two months ago. They said they couldn't get to the car for 6 days. That was after they told me to bring the car over. Just can't be without the car for 6 days unless I know they will fix the problem. Thanks
