Would love to see how that OEM belt aged and wore over time

I’m having the timing belt on my Acura done in two days so this video was timely. I’m amazed that the used timing belt looked so good.

Was the kit supplied by the customer? Can you get into the reasons behind the replacements made and explain the procurement process a little?
@jackjones745110 ай бұрын
Timing belts are recommended to be replaced every 60k-100k miles because it is a rubber belt. Rubber degrades and rots over time and can snap like an old rubber band. On most engines if the belt snaps it can cause major engine damage.

I Do Car's posted a YT video on a blown up Honda V-6; root cause, a poorly executed timing belt and water pump replacement. You are doing the Honda community a good turn with your video!

Mike , i have a 09 Accord with a timing chain not belt .Have you also change chains as well as most new motors are close interference .I know chains usually stretch versus breaking like a belt my car has about 130,000 miles on it . I just worry as i know some Audi have chains that are known to break which causes major catastrophic damage .Back in the day all cars had chains which would stretch , never break and you would know as the engine was running poorly due to the timing being off.

Should I change this before it breaks or just wait it out

So the 60,000 mile timing belt changes were bogus or the belts are improved?

@IDoCars just did a teardown on a Honda engine that was killed by an aftermarket timing belt tensioner which was installed during a Belt / Water Pump change.

How many hours does it take to do a typical Honda v6 timing belt, water pump, tensioners, etc?
@2zzlow11 ай бұрын
dealer pays tech 4.5 hours. If you are quick you can do it in an hour and a half.

One of the O.G.'s of automotive on KZbin here, Eric The Car Guy. He would have a friend/ employee whatever, be the camera man and hold it for all the shots. If you get big enough, you should do the same, find someone who can hold the camera.

I’m getting a rattle under my timing belt cover on a 2017 Honda pilot with 118,000 miles on it. I’ve had the truck since 55,000 and never changed the timing belt, what would you suggest? What is the rattling coming from? Is it the pulley or the timing belt? Also, do you have to change the water pump if there’s nothing wrong with it? Why did you change the water on this truck? Also what did you charge this person to do the timing belt and water pump on this Pilot? Doesn’t have to be exact, just looking to get an estimate, thank you !
@map74637 ай бұрын
That rattle likely means your tensioner is failing. Get that timing belt kit done ASAP. That rubber belt, tensioner and idler pulleys should be replaced at 100k miles. You are playing with fire if you haven't changed it yet. If the belt snaps or strips teeth the cost to repair your engine will be major. If I were you I would stop driving it until you get this done. You may as well replace the water pump too. If that fails, you will have to pay the same labor again.
@OneBadAssDJ7 ай бұрын
@@map7463 I change the timing belt tensioner. I will be changing the timing belt and water pump soon.The rattle/knocking went away after changing the tensioner.

“Must I” get this done at 100,000 miles? Has anyone waited too long and been sorry? As in valves have been bent etc.?
@TepcoCycleRepair11 күн бұрын
This is not a gamble you want to take. This is an interference engine. If the belt breaks it will bend valves and cost way more to get repaired. This is a very common issue in Hondas with timing belts. People would let them run too long, snap the belt, bend valves, this then requires the head to be removed and milled and any bent valves replaced and hope the piston wasn't damaged as well. I've done plenty of these repairs. If you're at 100k you are buying time already, some belts look good coming off, some look horrible, many variables, don't take the chance.
@2Jeezuzisreal2 ай бұрын
My son thinks he had a piston go bad and at the same time a few miles later he thinks the timing belt broke 😲😳 cuz it won't start and It just spins the starter. But he's not a mechanic so basically he's describing this like a woman would. So I was thinking I would take off that cover of the peak hole to see if the timing belt is actually broken. Any thoughts. I hate these engines
