We hope you enjoy our 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid review and highway MPG road test.
This is a 2016 Sonata Hybrid Limited, with the Ultimate Option Package.
The Ultimate option package’s safety features include Adaptive cruise control with stop/start capability, lane departure warning, forward collision warning and automatic high beams.
Our standard gas mileage testing route is a bit over 40 miles of Interstate highway, with a state speed limit of 65 miles per hour. It includes a bunch of ramps and one traffic light stop at the turnaround point.
The EPA's official fuel economy estimates for the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid are 39 city, 43 highway, 41 combined. The Sonata Hybrid SE is rated slightly higher at 40/44/42.
This is the regular hybrid model, NOT the plug-in hybrid.
Highway MPG test performed TWO WAYS:
Adaptive Cruise Control set at 68 MPH with the windows up and A/C OFF.
No Cruise/Variable Speeds between 60-72 MPH, windows up and A/C OFF.
The Sonata Hybrid's 2.0L GDI 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve with DCVVT (Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing) produces 154 HP and 140 lb-ft of torque. The Interior-Permanent Magnet Synchronous Electric Motor delivers 51 HP. The combined system delivers 193 total HP.
Many thanks to the kind folks at Hyundai USA for the vehicle loan and for all our MPGomatic subscribers for your continued support.
Thanks for tuning in!
