Hey everyone! Just an update on our end, we have the same issue. We had taken the car to the dealership two times already. Our state laws say that in order to start the lemon law process you must take it in three times. Well, on this time I MADE them take it for a long drive and they were able to replicate the problem four times! It's Saturday now so it might be awhile but we may be making progress. I'll report back when we get more info.

John Wheeler did you ever get the answer as to what the problem was. I have the same problem and have been getting the run around. Had the software update and my car still periodically acts up when I start it up. It refuses to move forward or backwards and will only move when I restart the car but there is no error code. This is so frustrating.

This was happening to our new Hyundai Tucson. We took the car to the dealer and refused to take the car home when they said it was fine... So we requested that they have a tech drive it home every night for a week. He was able to confirm that there was a problem. We then called Hyundai and filed a "lemon law claim" all while the dealership was " trying" to fix. They brought a Hyundai engineer to the dealership and he confirmed that there was no way to fix and now Hyundai is buying back our car including sales tax. We are however covering a mileage charge for the time we owned the vehicle. ( about 6k in mikes). I think it's about 10 or 20 cents a mile. Etc... Good luck to you all.

You bought the wrong car for your need. DCT are meant for the highway and where traffic is minimal. This guy in the video damaged his DCT in the city for sure. DCT are racing transmission by design. Stick to normal automatic trans. These Car companies are pushing DCT to uninform buyers and they know what will happen later on.

My 2016 Tucson does the same exact thing. I actually used your video to show them when they told me it was normal and not to worry. Mine likes to do it while trying to go in reverse. Revs up to 5000-6000 rpms and doesn't move an inch. I'm worried it will catch and I will fly out of my parking spot. Anyway, Hyundai reset my transmission computer and said that everything should be fine now that it is back to factory settings. The problems started at about 4500 miles on the car. Guess we will see.

I had this very same issue. I took it in several times. Once threatening to file a lemon law suit Hyundai sent engineers the the dealer. I even called the manufacturer in Alabama. They were shocked to hear from a actual customer. The issue was resolved with a Simple computer update. My car was just as bad as the one in the video. Because I was concerned about the potential wear and tear already caused by the problem, Hyundai gave me the Plaitnum Bumper to bumper warranty for 120k miles. My car was only 1 month old when the issue started. We did get a recall letter in the mail about this later on, so there is definitely a update out there. Best of luck.

ITS USER ERROR, YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND YOUR TRANNY, THIS STUFF WILL HAPPEN IF YOU INCH IN TRAFFIC, DO ALLOT OF CLOSE STOP AND GO OR TAKE OFF TOO FAST IN MORNING IF TRANNY DID NOT WARM UP...... ITS A MANUAL THAT THE COMPUTER SHIFTS!!!!! ALL MANUAL RULES APPLY TO THIS TRANNY, WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC ALLOW GAPS LIKE 2-3 CARS THEN GIVE SOME GAS, DON'T INCH IN TRAFFIC, IN MORNING LET TEMP GET UP TO NORMAL TEMP AND DRIVE LIGHTLY FOR 15 MINUTES ALLOWING DCT TO WARM UP AND YOUR TURBO....... SO SICK OF THESE VIDEOS AND COMMENTS ON PEOPLE THAT DO NOT UNDERSTAND THEIR DCT IS A AUTOMATED MANUAL AND A TURBO , YOU CAN NOT EXPECT IN TO BEHAVE LIKE A TRADITIONAL AUTOMATIC WITH A torque converter IT IS NOT, I HAVE A 16 DCT VELOSTER FOR 3 YEARS, I HAD SOME OF THESE PROBLEMS FOR FIRST 2 WEEKS, THEN I BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP THEN SAID TRANNY IS FINE, I DID RESEARCH ON THE DCT TRANNY AND FOUND THE WAY I WAS DRIVING WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEMS, I STOPPED, I TREATED THE CAR WITH THE SAME RULES AND A MANUAL TRANNY SINCE THAT IS WHAT IT IS, THEN THE PROBLEMS WENT AWAY 3 YEARS LATER IT NEVER HAPPENS BECAUSE AGAIN.... IT IS USER ERROR ON PEOPLE WHO DO NOT UNDERSTAND THERE TRANSMISSION!!!!!!!!!!!

@@ahmedmakki2012 I does not matter that it is not a sports car, it is like someone with a 6 speed manual in a toyota yaris, they still have to follow the same rules of a 6 speed manual of someone in a muscle car or sports car, it is the same with this DCT, it has pros and cons but all transmissions do, there are allot of videos out there they tell you the things you should not do in a DCT like kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWWVq6Z8js-NrK8 the VW 6 speed DSG has the same issues, i have allot of friends with GTI, and my friend is the one with the GTI is the one that told me to stop inching in traffic, then i did my research, if you want to just jump in a car and just drive it and drive they way you want then get a torque converter transmission, the problem is when your at dealer ship they just call in an Automatic when in fact it is a Automated MANUAL transmission, so a DCT in a sports car or an eco car it does not matter, just like a manual. I am not sure way no one listens of have the 7 speed DCT in my veloster turbo for almost 4 years with 70,000k miles and since i drive it with the same rules of a manual I HAVE NO PROBLEMS, i am not sure why someone don't understand that they keep bringing back to hyundai, they even put a new tranny in and in months later the same issues are back. Yes the DCT is flawed but there is certain things to avoid and you wont have any problems

Assuming the tcm has a similar logic to dsg, The torque relationship between two clutches can be deduced. When the CH(clutch 1) temperature increases to the safety value, it should be disengaged and CL (clutch 2) is applied again. During the entire creeping process, two clutches repeat this procedure alternately. However, when the temperature of the following on-coming clutch is over 245C, the transmission control unit should produce a signal to alert and suggest the driver to stop creeping and cool the clutch system. Then the creeping process ends. It appears as though the tcm is allowing the clutches to produce excessive heat.

David Parker I guess in 2016 the Tucson wasn’t as heavy??? The basic structure hasn’t changed since 2016 so I don’t think weight had anything to do with why the DCT was no longer available in the Tucson. It’s more likely the issue was drivability and garbage like what happened in this video happening far too often.
@synthmechanix
@synthmechanix 4 жыл бұрын
runforit420 The weight of the car and software for the shift points was a contributing factor. In manual mode they would shift and move the vehicle fine. The DCT is a good design just not for the Tucson. The DCT excels in a sport car configuration. The 17+ Elantra Sport and N Line are on point with VW DSG. I am a Platinum Master Hyundai/Genesis tech as well. Seen a lot a Tucson software updates correct the issues and have seen it where we had to replace the DCT and TCU and perform a specific update for the replacement.

David Parker Fair points. Even VW refrains from putting a DSG in its crossovers in North America. Is the Hyundai/Kia hybrid DCT similar to what’s in the Elantra Sport btw, obviously without the electric motor which I have heard is integrated into the transmission. The Ford DCT PowerShift is absolute garbage.

I have a Ford Fiesta with a DCT and that car has been to the shop every few months with transmission issues, recalls, software updates, etc., and it still does the same exact thing. Now, my transmission is making a whining, scraping and clunking noise and I'm preparing to take my car to the dealer, once again, for them to work on my transmission. Unfortunately, I don't have the money to trade the car in now, but when I am able to trade it in, I'm getting a Toyota or a Honda. This problem has been rectified with the release of the 7 speed DCT. Regardless, don't drive a DCT like a torque converter type automatic. They are completely different. Continuously edging forward in traffic will, in time, kill any DCT. Use Hyundai's Auto Hold function in assisting you to not edge forward.

@@johnnybman7125 - In all honesty, Hyundai did have a problem with their DCTs, although certainly not as bad as Ford's Powershift and probably not as bad as VW's DSG either. The 6-speed had its issues and then the early 7-speed had some minor issues as well, although, as you pointed out, most of it was caused by humans not realising or understanding that they were actually driving a DCT and to alter their driving style accordingly. I have owned an i30 SR Premium (1.6 turbo with 7-speed DCT) and one of the first things I did before I purchased it was to research what I was getting myself into - and, of course, how to drive a DCT properly, i.e., just because a DCT will edge forward in traffic, definitely doesn't mean that you should. Unfortunately, most owners don't know the few simple rules to follow. Meanwhile, I've had no problems whatsoever and am enjoying the lightning fast gear changes, fabulous fuel economy, fantastic performance and all this without the slipping of a torque converter type transmission. The steering wheel shift paddles add to the fun of driving this amazing little car (which is almost as quick as a Golf GTI, but, in Australia the GTI is about $10,000 dearer!).

@eladbari 5 жыл бұрын
@@rachaelwarlond4567 Hey Rachel! I also have an i30 2016, and wanted to ask you: 1. So, besides trying to avoid quick padding on gas+break when in traffic , and taking it easy/slowly, when pressing gas going uphill, what are your main suggestions for driving rules for DCT drivers? 2. And, btw, where is that "Auto Hold" button in this car? I'ts not near the transmission handle :\
@rachaelwarlond4567
@rachaelwarlond4567 5 жыл бұрын
@@eladbari - You can take off fast, although until the clutch is fully engaged, they are slightly slower than a conventional auto with similar engine output, however, once the clutch is fully engaged they are absolutely quicker than a conventional auto. Of course, taking off fast will result in similar wear characteristics to the clutch in a manual transmission - still, there is no problem doing this. It's more creeping forward in traffic that is the killer for a DCT. It's also worthwhile mentioning that a DCT gearbox only really slips when taking off from a stationary position, i.e., if your car is moving and changing gears (up or down), clutch slip is pretty much minimal or not at all. I suppose the best thing to remember is that you need to keep heat build-up to a minimum and in a DCT transmission, that's principally caused by clutch slipping. If you are starting off from traffic lights on a steep hill, remain stationary, i.e., no creeping forward, until the lights change. When they do change, accelerate. It's also important to note that in Hyundai's 7-speed DCT 1st gear is very very low and it's very low for a reason - to minimise clutch slip. This means that you only need to be going a little faster that a brisk walking pace before the clutch is fully engaged in first gear. Bear in mind that everything I've mentioned with taking off from a stationary position also applies to reversing as well. My i30 does have an "Auto Hold" button just behind the electric brake lever in between the front seats. I'm not sure whether the 2016 version has the same facilities. Still, even if yours doesn't have this feature, you can mimic its function simply by keeping your foot on the brake when stationary. I suppose that many people would also not know that when a car with a DCT is stationary with your foot on the brake and the shift lever is in "R" or "D", the gearbox automatically shifts to neutral, unlike a torque converter auto, which is either in reverse or first gear. Knowing this might help people understand why they shouldn't inch forward with a DCT simply because it forces the first gear clutch (or reverse gear clutch if in "R") to engage, and hence, slip until the car is going fast enough for the gear to be fully engaged. So, DCTs are more complicated than a moonshot and are very clever from an engineering point of view, so they are certainly not sh*t, although I can certainly understand why people who have had trouble with their DCT think so. As a side note, a dry clutch DCT (which is what Hyundai uses) is much better than VW's DSG wet clutch. It may not be quite as smooth in some driving scenarios, but it is much quicker to change gears. In other words, Hyundai's DCT is a much sportier driving experience. BTW, I've driven both and I absolutely love the lightning speed of Hyundai's DCT compared to VW's DSG (DSG stands for Direkt-Schalt-Getriebe or direct shift gearbox). Refer to this KZbin video. This guy is fabulous. Start with his video called DCT for Dummies and then watch his other three videos called DCT Life (parts 1, 2 and 3). kzbin.info/www/bejne/fn2yqIxprMSHhMU I hope I've been helpful. :)

Wow this is happening to me too! And I decided to google it and see if there were any hits! I am not the only one! I have a 2016 limited 2.0 turbo Hyundai Tucson with 6600 miles. I brought the car to the dealership in Ontario, CA for an oil change and mentioned the transmission was "acting up" and the told me this was how the car drives. Now I am nervous at red lights because I'm worried the car won't accelerate. This has happened to me 3x so far. I am making another appt. with the dealer tomorrow with this video in hand for evidence. I am bummed because I love this car but now am stressed out when I drive!

My wife just experienced the same thing on our 2016 Tucson with 1257 miles on it. The service department told me to let it sit and cool off but it was on a tow truck before I got his message. The tow truck driver started it up and you could smell the burning right away after it had sat for over an hour. Totally unacceptable and I'll cancel my very first lease payment unless they can make some reassurances. The shifting from day one has been clumsy and rough. We will try to get out of the lease. I bought this vehicle over the CRV because it had more safety features than the CRV but this is a frightening situation for anyone to have to experience.

I have the same problem with my Tucson 2016, AWD 1.6 Limited. Thanks for the video as I didn't have any evidence of this until now. My car is currently at the dealership and like you said, they can't find anything wrong with it, can't recreate the problem. About a week ago I stopped at the traffic light on a red and couldn’t move from that spot when the light turned green. The car was in a Drive mode and was revving like on a racing track, but wasn’t moving. I had a long line of cars behind me and it was not just embarrassing, but really scary. My 5 year old son asked: "mama, did you forget to put the gas in?" I had to put the car in a Parking mode, then back into Driving and pushed the gas again, but it still wasn’t going anywhere. Then I put it back in Parking, turned it off completely, started it again and pushed the gas, hoping that full restart would fix the issue. There was no change in my car’s behavior even after the restart. I kept on pumping the gas pedal and after 30-40 seconds, something happened and my car finally started moving. It slooooooowly rolled over the intersection on already yellow light but it wasn’t going any faster than 5 mi/hr no matter what I tried. Then I pulled into the parking lot and turned my car off again. After this restart it was acting normally again as nothing had happened, so I was able to get to work and back. When I dropped my car at the dealership at the end of the week, they weren’t able to find any issues besides just saying that Tucsons are known for “slow gear switching issues” like the teeth not griping fast enough to switch to the next level or something like that. This is not slow switching, this is not switching at all!

That is horrifying! I had a similar experience pulling out into traffic. The vehicle hung me out to dry. I had to put the hazard flashers on and traffic was bearing down. I don't trust it anymore. You are correct; it has nothing to do with gear switching. At least being in a gear, you could move forward with power.

Tried again and just engine rev, no movement. Put in neutral and shifted back to drive and finally got going. Next intersection I had to make a left against opposing traffic and chickened out until the light changed to red. Same damn thing occurred! Could have been t-boned and whose fault would it have been? I stopped and restarted the car several times, moved in and out of drive, park, and reverse several times, but still all acceleration was in reverse. After I used blue link to get a toe it finally started to accelerate forward, but only at very high RPMs like in this video. This after 5 weeks of ownership. It's absurd Hyundai could ship something like this.

@@johnnybman7125- Great comment. I've noticed that some people have mentioned VW with DSG and Ford with their Powershift. Both VW and Ford have underdone the R&D which is why DCTs have such a bad reputation. Hyundai, on the other hand, have put a lot of R&D into their DCTs and the 7-speed DCT mated to the 1.6 turbo is a brilliant powertrain, especially when fitted to the lighter i30 SR Premium that I own. I love the shift paddles too, especially on a twisty mountain road - fabulous fun. :) Still, the caveat here is to alter your driving habits and drive a DCT like a DCT and not like a conventional torque converter automatic. The problems they are having with their DCT will then "magically" go away - except for VW's DSG and Ford's Powersh*t - nothing can solve the problems that they have, not even by altering one's driving style!!!

2016 VELOSTER TURBO 7 SPD DCT OWNERS ---- This [major, dangerous] transmission issue also occurs in the 2016 Veloster Turbo DCT. I took my 2016 Turbo DCT to my dealership in Henderson, Nevada to tell them about this issue happening in my car multiple times, and nearly being hit twice! The service technician said that it's happening to many Tucsons, and that my Veloster was the FIRST ONE that is now sitting at the dealership awaiting repairs.... He also said the Tucsons have literally been sitting there for 3 weeks without a fix, so not sure how long mine is going to sit there... The technician also blamed it on "the car isn't designed for 'Nevada heat'", and that's the reason why the clutch is having issues engaging and constantly slipping. That is obviously not the case because this video shows its no where near being hot... and I told the tech that it happened before summer even started.

Easy way to tell, put in manual mode as you're driving. Shift it to the highest gear. If it displays more than 6 gears, you have a dct. Their standard auto trans is 6speeds. The hyundai dct trans has 7 or 8 gears, depending on the year. Hopefully that helps.

this video is a result of user error, not understanding that there car has a manual transmission with two clutches that the computer shifts, what cause is this is either the DCT is too cold, not warmed up properly and tried to drive it to hard before dct heated up, or by inching in traffic, which is riding the clutches and heats them up and this will happen, i have a 2016 veloster turbo DCT for 3 years with zero problems, i got some of this problem before i understood that this tranny is in fact a manual and that i was causing problem, as soon as people understand that this is not a torque converter traditional tranny and treat these tranny with the same rules as a traditional manual this problem will go away.. like i said user error and its not going by only what i read i experienced it and made adjustments, no inching in traffic, in stead let 2 car gaps happen then move foward heating dct properly not driving too hard when just start car in morning which that is also not good for turbo

The only company that has mastered the dual clutch transmission is VW! Ten years ago, the DSG was shifting into neutral on highways, grinding gears, and now it seems like VW/Audi have worked out most of the bugs, but it took ten years. If Ford continues with the PowerShift, it will be another five years of sorting out the bugs before it's actually good. Same with Hyundai - by 2026 Hyundai will have figured out the problems.

You all know DCT transmissions are duel wet clutch setup right look in your owner manual to find the place ware to add fluid to the clutch system I think on Ford’s with a DCT it’s break fluid reservoir also fills the clutch fluid reservoir part of transmission. So always check your brake fluid level regularly on Your Ford’s vehicles with a DCT transmission because you fill both from the same reservoirs from the same access reservoir cap.

Both the earlier 6-speed and the later 7-speed Hyundai DCTs are dry clutch. VW, Audi, Skoda and Ford use wet clutch. Both the VW Group (which includes Audi and Skoda) and Ford with their Powershift (now referred to as Powersh*t) had heaps of problems because of underdone R&D. Some Hyundai 6-speed and earlier 7-speeders did experience minor issues, but the later 7-speed (as in the 2017 i30 and Tucson) do not have these issues. Just as a matter of interest, dry clutch DCTs are quicker to shift and sportier to drive overall, especially if fitted with steering wheel paddles like my i30 SR Premium. It's a fantastic little car that's almost as quick as a Golf GTi (2.0 litre turbo vs Hyundai 1.6 litre turbo) - both are around 7 seconds from 0 to 100kph. Zero problems with my 7-speed dry clutch DCT after 60,000kms - still drives like new!!!

Andrew Rae, we finally got the car back after over 3 weeks in the shop. The issue was caused be a defective Clutch Actuator. The reason it took so long was because the part was not available. A rental was provided. They actually had to strip it off a Tucson that just landed from Korea. Referencing the Hyundai forums really helped in getting it resolved quickly at the dealership.

+C. Matusevich it has 13,000 on it. Wherever I bought it the car had a weird hesitation like it wouldn't kick into gear and then it would want to take off, I took it back the next business day and they said it was my DCT working (4400 miles at that point) and I just got it back from Hyundai because my assy-clutch went out and the hesitation isn't there anymore! Car drives flawlessly now. & yes the sonata does have a DCT, but it's only in the Sonata Eco.

+C. Matusevich also, don't be worried about driving a Hyundai. I honestly don't know if I'll be able to get away from Hyundai now because of all of the features they offer and the styling is amazing. I love all of hyundais vehicles. Every new car will have its problems and this problem is covered by warranty. As long as you don't get an Eco model, you won't have this problem because the problem is only in the DCT transmissions.

Ok as for the dealer goes "time is cash" so a dealer doesn't want to spend any extra time on an out of ordinary issue. Instead they can service a car for a known issue in an estimated standard time frame and make money. This is why they give you run arounds.

That transmission isn't a DCT like the 2016 1.6L versions. Is your check engine light on? Are you getting all gears and no slipping? Sounds like a communications issue between the transmission and whatever causes the dash LCD to display the mode. The no manual mode thing is a bit puzzling. If that all started at the same time maybe the transmission ecu is going bad. Better get that to your dealership to be fixed before it totally goes out.

+msrednic Last trip to the shop, they couldn't "find" anything wrong or duplicate the problem. They did a RESET on the computer that learns how you drive and uses that information to save on gas. First couple days, the transmission seemed a bit jerky - but since then it's doing fine. Unless they can pinpoint an error code or SEE if malfunctioning, getting them to do anything under warranty is a joke. Finger crossed this reset did the trick.

Similar to skills you need to get before getting a car with the manual transmission. Don't think that DCT is the automatic transmission, it is manual in it's design, but operated by robot. Don't take them for urban driving.
