My headlights are angry. I thought angry headlights were dumb and there to help market the car as "tough and/or aggressive". Then I drove it at night and realized my angry headlights were designed that way so they didn't shine into the eyes or rear-view mirrors of other drivers. There's this stark horizontal delineation between "lit up" near the ground and "still nighttime" up above. My angry headlights are actually polite headlights.

It's my first Mx-5. Drove my parents' NC and it's fine but a little heavy. The ND is great. The gearbox is truly astonishing, and also the reason I chose the vanilla MX-5 over the FIAT 124 guise, since that uses the old gearbox to cope with the turbo. Mine has the European standard 1.5L though, which is a bloody hilarious little engine. It revs and revs and revs and frankly I preferred it to the 2.0L because it sounds like an angry box of bees.

Mr regular I just wanted to say thank you. After watching your video on the original NA Miata so long ago, you made me consider getting a Miata for my first car. I've always liked cars but have never really been sure of what I wanted. Plus, since I was paying for it myself, I couldn't afford a brand new sports car. However, last week I test drove an NC and holy shit I was sold the minute I put it in gear and took off. Coming from my dad's old 2004 civic, I've never had more fun driving a car in my life. I mean my god this thing is just pure JOY. I wouldn't have looked twice at one had your videos not sparked an interest in me. Proud to be a Miata owner!!

I'm amazed they kept the weight so low. I'm actually looking at an NC Miata. Probably aiming for 2007/2008/2009. The great thing with NC over NB is they switched over to a timing chain from a belt. This really will keep maintenance costs low. I had a 90's Toyota for 350,000 miles and the costs for so many belts add up. My water pump never gave me any trouble since it got replaced every single time I did the belt

Can someone explain to a pleb the whole "slow car fast" vs the "fast car fast"?
@baileyearls9256
@baileyearls9256 7 жыл бұрын
Basically that you can use more of the car within reason. Example: I can easily have a lot of fun driving a 488GTB on the road but ill never be able to use all of the car without getting on a race track, where as if I were in a BRZ i could (reasonably) take it on a back road and drive it at the limit for any given amount of time without crashing or getting arrested. I believe what he was getting at is that it's better to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.
@sadmanh0
@sadmanh0 6 жыл бұрын
a slow car fast is a car that isn't particularly fast but it's driving dynamics makes you feel as though you're driving fast, even though you're not going particularly quick; fast car fast is just any regular fast car which needs to be driven fast to be exciting

Got some try hard explanations. I'll try to keep it simple. Slow car fast means you can put the pedal to the metal, wind up the engine, and shift through most of your gears and not be going 150MPH. As opposed to, say, a Corvette that if you floor it, you shift once and you're pushing 30-40+MPH over the speed limit.

I went from daily driving a Miata to driving a WRX. I'm now at stage 2 with my WRX and I'm realizing that fast car fast is a lot like buying a bigger TV. That being said, I just drove my buddies stage 2 STI the other day and it was pretty incredible...stage 3 here I come?

Same with slow bike fast. Ringing an SV650 or an NT650 Hawk's neck on a back road is far more fun than doing the same ride on a proper fast bike, which is why I still have the NT I bought in the 90's.

I just rented one 2021 and it was the closest feeling to have like you’re riding a motorcycle, but you’re actually driving a car. I mean of usability: you have a car, but you can’t really do anything other that driving while you’re in it, like even simply drinking a coffee is quite a task. Same as on motorcycle you can’t really do anything (like drinking a coffee) on it as you’re riding it

I think you got that wrong at the end; slow car fast is better than fast car *slow*. Fast car fast is quite clearly the best possible way to enjoy a car. I wouldn't want a Miata on a track big enough to handle a Lamborghini, but I'd rather have the Miata on a backroad in the country where you can wind it out without it feeling gutless...

Actually this Not a Miata, a 124 spider or an S2000. This is a oh what's the word.....abomination. This literally is Mazdas attempt to make a 3 city car. They're jealous of the Smart and Scion iQ so they thought they'd have a crack it. So their engineers took a 3 and cut the chassis down 6"-1'. Lengthen the doors because it could only seat 2 people by city car standards.
@TheLaXandro
@TheLaXandro 7 жыл бұрын
But Miata's chassis is its own platform entirely, not cut down 3. The only other longtitudal RWD car in the lineup is Mazda BT50, and it's a Ford Ranger, so it can't be that either.

I own a late NA ('97). The main flaw with the ND (as with the NB and NC) is that door line is raised such that it's no longer comfortable to hang one's left arm over the side. Side impact protection means you're riding in a bathtub. Give me that Triumph TR-3 feel (the pinnacle of slow-car fast) any day over IIHS ratings. I added a roll-bar to the NA for a bit more side protection (at the cost of some 50 lbs more weight), but I think the best crash protection is alert driving and sticky tires. They've saved me on several times. Visibility of bright yellow/red paint helps, too. I'm personally waiting for the yellow ND before I join the 21st century.

Sure I can't open up and rip on the throttle as often as I'd be able to with a Miata but if I wanted to replicate the experience I'd just go a couple gears too high and set aside a couple of days in my calendar for that 0-60 pull.
