Great review Guido! I love the exterior and interior too but it's sad to hear that it doesn't drive as nice as the Touareg. My favorite SUV is still the Macan and I don't think that will change anytime soon. What a great year it's been for you Guido! You showed some great variety in your reviews and I enjoyed them all but I think I liked the Maserati reviews the most because they aren't covered too much anymore and it was great to see you in a new brand that you really seemed to enjoy. Great review! I like the fact that you are reviewing these SUV's as they will end up being used by 99% of their owners. Nobody will seriously off road or track these vehicles. SUV's are mainly about misguided feelings of security, superiority and although North Americans won't admit it practicality. I too may end up getting one of these vehicles (leaning towards TDI Touareg) but driving enjoyment is still at the top of my list so the Cayenne might take the prize.

Guido; very nice review! I believe the GLE 400 looks striking inside out with spacious interior and high quality materials! The competition will also have pros and cons but once you drive a Benz there is no turning back as it is the Best or Nothing :)) I loved watching your C63 507 edition review; you said the transmission has a little delay in shifting then you said you can live with that and the same goes for the GLE :))Happy New Year

I came across your channel when you reviewed my mid-life crisis vehicle-Porsche GTS or the Cayman GT4:)) I guess I'm wanting another clutch/stick shift vehicle again. I'm in the market now for an SUV bc my '13 Nissan Pathfinder was confirmed to be a Lemon car! Now I'm going on my first German car and it is either going to be a new X5 luxury line with 20" wheels or the gle 400 AMG package but I don't know which one yet? All I know is it drives better than my Pathfinder.

The first time I sat into a ML350 I really loved this. I'm sure the GLE400 is even better. However they only sell diesel version and Japan so too bad. I will go for E Class.

Sir, The nomenclature of Mercedes SUVs relate to corresponding sedans, as you told us: the GLS corresponding to the S-class sedan, etc. My question is, "Why does the dual information displays in the S-class not appear in the GLS?" Bravo, Guido! You mentioned coasting (or lack-of in the GLE). Can you explain what, if any, sensation there is to the driver when a vehicle does "coast" ? +Mario Dalla Riva Thanks Mario ! Yes these SUVs are very popular in my area. Mainly the ML/GLE, Touareg and X5 and loads of smaller SUVs from all kinds of different brands. I think the smaller VW Tiguan is the best selling one here...Coasting simply feels like rolling in neutral. Downhill it really works excellent in these heavier and big cars. Frohe Weihhnachten, Guido. I drove the ML 350D for 2 weeks in England on small country roads and I found the steering lifeless too. The car does the job--it's big and tall and comfortable--but driving it is a joyless experience. I found it a task rather than a pleasure. Last week I took delivery of my C450 AMG. Now that is a fun car! Even on Dallas roads. Have you tried it?

Very informative and honest review, great job as always Guido! It's sad to hear that in a lot of reviews the Mercedes gearboxes, AMG or otherwise, usually come up as a negative. They should really work on that. It's great that they're doing their own thing and not just take the ZF as everyone else but it definitely is an issue these days. As for the car, I prefer the GLA and GLC over the two bigger GL-models. But if I had the means for a proper "SUV", I'd get the good old G ;-)

I don't like the Back of the car, i think it looks outdated, the front is nice and the interior is ok (great quality but the design is not that great imho) reading and watching reviews seems that the Mercedes suvs are the worst between the luxury ones in the dynamics. Great to see a reviewer give an open and honest review of the good, bad and the ugly of the vehicle they are driving. So many times I've seen reviewers skim over details that are bad because they don't want to offend. (Maybe they don't want to get cut out of the perks loop?) Many of these new electric steering set ups are not nearly as good as their mechanical counterparts - all in the name of fuel efficiency? So the VW wins over the Merc? Hmmmmm. I wonder where the Jaguar F pace will fall.

I can't get away from the fact that Mercedes interiors are too shiny, and designed for show offs maybe? (sorry owners of Mercs!). Whereas Beemers are a little conservative. I drive an Audi-somewhere in between hopefully.

I own this exact car and a 2014 ml350 before it. I found the newer one is worse in a bunch of ways... stupid auto start stop, jerky transmission around 2nd gear, door handle touch lock sensor less sensitive, less legroom in back seat, only single disc cd player, cannot CLOSE the trunk with the key fob, dash pad not as soft against resting knee, and the car drives and parks far bigger than the ml did. Also because the gle has that big double glass sunroof, there is a lot more wind and road noise than the ml (that had a single sunroof with a solid sliding door to block even more noise). Dont get me wrong i love GLE, but if i had a 2nd chance i would've kept the ml (that cost me HALF what the GLE did)!!

I think it depends on the market area / country you would buy it. In germany here big SUVs lose alot of value over the years. My guess is a fully loaded GLE like this would be around 50.000 Euro now

Guido, this car is extra developed for the US and their road conditions, which are in some states very bumpy. If the car would shake your steering wheel at every road bump, it would be a hard ride. So the steering is designed as soft for driving comfort on potentialy bumpy roads.
