The Sentra has always been a GREAT VALUE and DEPENDABLE car. But you can't beat the Honda Sensing packaging and the MPG of the CIVIC. I would drive the 2 back to back and see the difference of handling and comfort and road noise. The Focus is cramped the Cruse is not that attractive to my eye it's ok to drive and live with and the Elantra really felt cheap (check out the door rubber) I don't know about the newest 2016 model. The problem is once you add a few options you can buy a Accord or a Camry or Fusion or very low mileage Impala Etc. You have to really think what works best because the MPG are all about the same now. Great review ALEX AS ALWAYS!

One thing I noticed immediately when driving 15' Sentra & 15' Corolla is that Sentra is noticeably quieter. Despite maybe a hair more "budget car" feeling inside, I do feel like Sentra is a better ride for the money. Dunno if that is still true in the 16' version....
@luc79769 жыл бұрын
+tsun890 Agree Sentra is quieter and softer suspension while Corolla is more engaging to drive (and harsher suspension which could be either pro/con). Sentra is also surprisingly roomy. At base trim Sentra seems bit cheaper interior but at slightly higher trim I think they are comparable.

The Sentra is basically playing against the Corolla. Both have a large trunk, large back seat, are light on power, use CVTs, and are priced effectively from $17-23k, the heart of the market. The Civic has moved to a premium compact/mid-size. The Corolla is a the market leader, selling 30k a month. The Civic will reach that level in 2016. The Sentra sells 15-18k a month.

I don't understand how people overlook a Mazda 3 for this. It is much better looking and has a much better power output with a traditional auto. I can never understand people
@EvanderSmart9 жыл бұрын
madridtillidie Mazda in general is a small, niche outfit with a fraction of the dealers of the others. Doesn't have a large customer base, or rep for high quality. Like Subaru, it's a niche car company, not a major player.
@madridtillidie9 жыл бұрын
So basically you're saying if they had a dealer network like Toyota or Nissan, they'd have more customers?? and quality is subjective. I know some people personally who have a terrible experience with sentras and altimas and someone with a 626 with over 300k miles on it. Mazda has stepped up their game the past few years and I believe other the size preference, why one wouldn't buy a 3 over this.

Why does this have worse MPG than the 2.5L Altima?
@jonathanjackson92087 жыл бұрын
Christian Springer, it's a smaller engine doing more work. It all depends on the driving experience. I rented an S Trim this year while on vacation, I achieved 41 MPG. I can't say that's a terrible figure

Hi! Alex, thanks for another excellent review. I do agree about the advantage of the CVT when it comes to hill climbing. Like you've mention miss the old traditional of gear changing. However, with the MPG rating, I guess people still buy this car due to prices because the Altima gets better gas mileage and more spacious.

I always thought the meaning of the overdrive is to make the revolution rate of the wheel equal or faster than the revolution in the engine. So on the highway cruising you can get better fuel economy with overdrive because when it is on, you effectively decrease the engine rotation speed. The overdrive gear should be the highest gear possible. The L (or B) gear is for the purpose of engine braking or increased torque / extended acceleration. Low gear and overdrive gear are the opposite ends of a stick.

when you mentioned volvo not selling to many vehicles i wouldnt be surprised if they tried to branch out their safety division with other automaker. so lets say that honda integrates volvo safety systems and such and all Honda would have to do is is "Protected by volvo" or something like that.

All of Toyota's vehicles are bland. Simple and basic and nothing "exciting" for the general pubic to look at and buy it. The only reason Toyota is so successful is because of their reliability. People buy for that reason and that's why Toyota is number one. This too goes for Honda and Nissan. The Sentra is DEFINITELY better than the Corolla. It's not as good as the Chevy Cruze or Mazda3. Well, at least that's how I look at it.

Comparing pricing is as always bit tricky. SL doesn't come with standard moonroof and adding forward emerg. braking brings total price to 25,365. White special color is an extra $395. Also base model weird enough doesn't have standard rearview monitor.Civic '16 EX-L is $25,535 which might be comparable to SL except for missing LED headlights (which is +$1800 part of Civic Touring trim). But then again Civic does have few more features like LDW and I think nicer interior.

Hi Alex, can you please review the 2016 BMW x1?
@vertik78 жыл бұрын
The only thing why Nissan Sentra doesn't sell as well as other cars are the seats. They are very thinly padded and not soft. Hard suspension doesn't help either, but it's like on Honda. Honda Civic has a little better seats and Corolla even better, like on Chevrolet Cruze. That's why Toyota Corolla outsells Civic and Sentra. If only Nissan could put Altima seats in Sentra it would sell millions. Best seats on compact car are installed in Ford Focus and Mazda 3. But they are expensive. If anyone wants to buy Sentra, please don't test drive Altima. After driving Altima, Sentra feels like a small metal box with cheap plastic dashboard and plastic seats from the bus.

The trunk (boot) volume of this car is deceptive. First, the more obvious, the hinges take away a lot of usable space when the trunk is closed. Second, the less obvious, the trunk door damping mechanism are two horizontal rods. These rods are under the trunk ceiling and when closing the trunk they twist and lower. This takes away valuable space in the upper part of the trunk. When Alex tried to close the trunk it was visible that the rods were pressing on the luggage and tipped it over. It is possible that with the luggage right under the mechanism Alex might not have closed the trunk. I do not know why simple scissor hinges which would solve these problems were not implemented.
@AAutoBuyersGuide9 жыл бұрын
+BrokenFiddles Actually it was because it leaned toward the hinge and knocked it. I have actually tested the trunk with multiple bags and while I would prefer hidden hinges, you can still put more luggage in the Sentra. You can do five 24-inch roller bags at the back, and six 24-inch roller bags (not bulging at all) behind them between the seat and the row up front. This is the only entry in this segment where that is possible.
