2016 Nissan Sentra ignition wont turn. SOLVED cheap!

2016 Nissan Sentra key will not turn the ignition cylinder out of the "lock" position. This cheap fix got me out of a bind, and now I can take the car to someone who can program me a knew key!

If anyone is having this problem just take the key to almost any locksmith and they should be able to cut you a new shell key to the factory specifications. Then they cut the old transponder out of your old key and put it in the new shell. Looks and works just like the original when it was new.

Same thing happened this weekend, Key wouldn't turn and the steering Colum locked and got a cut out at AutoZone instead of a VIN cutout from the dealer. Thanks for the info

Glad it worked out, happy to help....5-10 bucks for a dummy key beats the $200 tow and new transponder key. Atleast that will get you going for a while until you can get a new one programmed.

@@brendalove1230 As I interpret @samuelom2002's message, it seems to me, they were able to get a "dummy" key cut at autozone, and did not have to go to the dealer to get the "dummy" key cut from the VIN. In either case, you would still need the transponder to be in range of the sensor so the "immobilizer" will in turn, deactivate and allow you to start your car. You can always try autozone, or a hardware store, or something similar before heading to a dealer because they're typically inexpensive. In some cases, not getting it cut from the VIN will in fact work. It just depends on if your key is worn down. In my case, the key was so worn down, that when the hardware store traced the pattern onto a brand new key, that new key had all the imperfections copied over. By getting a key cut to your VIN by a dealer, you essentially eliminate that variable. Hope this helps!

Roughly $10 and I called a few Nissan dealers in my area. Other comments advise that you can also contact a locksmith with capabilities to cut a key from a VIN number

How does a key lose the teeth to not turn? I have same problem. KEy still opens the doors

The Nissan dealer told me they DO NOT have a "door key" or "valet key" The ONLY key they have is a $350 key (200 key 150 to program), I called 2 different local dealers, and both said they do not show a $10 door key.. did they offer the "door key" to you as a solution or did they try to sell you on the most expensive key first, I'll call some other dealers farther away to see if its just these dealers.

They are definitely quick to try and sell you a $400 key. They tried doing the same to me. Maybe a different dealer, or maybe go in person. I had to go in person and explain exactly what I needed for them to understand. I'm also not sure if you have the same model year, but maybe the results could be dependent on what year?

Go to the dealer to parts section with your information and ID. Request the “ Key Code” for this vehicle. From there, take it to a locksmith to cut it. Or program it with them. The KeyCode is free no cost to get it. Hope this helps.
