Out of interest, How does a person being black or a woman make them better directors, writers or actors. Why does it matter? The vast majority of people in the US are white not black, is it not reasonable that this is reflected in there films? Bollywood doesn't have any white characters. Why is diversity inherently good. Why judge some one on the color of there skin? Now if you had named a few black actors and female directors that, based on merit, were in your opinion better that the ones nominated; this would far further to prove racism and sexism in holy wood. However you did not. Do you really think that the white men are bigoted racists?

Well, first you have to understand, that racism is a system. Black people by all means can be prejudice and discriminate on white people and others for sure. Of course. @ldiod43749 жыл бұрын
Christy Deng It's not like the Oscars have never nominated people of different race other than white, this is just one year. Besides, when you look at the root of the problem, its not really the academy's fault. It lies more in a lack of representation of notable actors and actresses from non-white races.

+Rob B. (driftin) The thing is that the Oscars actually snub people of color. Selma (2014) was a very successful film critically and was getting nominated at alot of award shows. Then it gets snubbed for best director and actor (two awards thought to be lock ins) for a movie about glorifying a white american sniper who bragged about killing looters in new orleans and punching celebrities. Beasts of No Nation and Creed are films that are just as critically acclaimed (if not more) than anything the Oscars nominated this year but were shut out (besides the white guy in Creed, who we can pretend did a great performance without any credit to the writing or directing since he ALWAYS picks good roles *cough* expendables)

***** did you just reverse my sarcasm? People are not chosen on their race, that is literally the dumbest idea ever. All the candidates chosen were amazing. Leonardo was great in Revenant, Matt Damon was great in the Martian and the rest of the candidates were all great in their roles. George Miller, Alejandro G. Iñárritu and the rest are all superb directors. They all deserved the nominations because they acted or directed well in their movie last year. Their race and gender had NOTHING to do with it. They were nominated not because they were white or male, but because they are great actors and directors. Nominating for race is the dumbest thing ever, and the Oscars do not nominate like that. All the nominations are credible! Do you really think they should nominate a woman, or a black person just for the sake of diversity. Because then they wouldn't have been nominated because they deserved it, but to please social justice warriors. It would make the Oscar worthless. Would you want to win an award, not because you are the best, but because of the political message it sends?
@WafflePrince9 жыл бұрын
***** All the candidates were great, I would have liked to see other people such as Ridley Scott nominated. However I do agree that all the chosen ones did have a valid reason to be nominated. Also I never said anything about poc/women only being nominated for politically correctness (straw man much). What I actually said was that people only want them to be nominated for politicly correctness, rather than for their talent. Everyone is complaining, however no one really has said who they would have nominated instead. I think all the candidates are solid choices for talent, even though I wanted other people to be chosen such as Abrams or Scott. Out of curiosity, who would you have chosen?
@WafflePrince9 жыл бұрын
***** That made little sense.Oscars focuses on the best of the year, regardless of gender and race. It just so happens last year, the majority of last year were mostly white and male. This is likely because the majority of the film industry are white and male. So there are more chances of good directors and actors, so it makes sense for the percentage to be higher. Also I asked you for your nominations because I wanted to see examples of non-white and female directors/actors. To be fair there are not many in comparison to white and male directors/actors. I am sure there are plenty of great people who are, simply their numbers are less, so the proportion of them in the Ocsars is going to be less (this is common sense). This isn't racist/sexist, stuff like this happens in many different jobs and careers, for example, there are little to no binwomen in comparison to binmen. Or non-whites to whites in basketball teams. Specific races and genders have tendencies* to have certain jobs and careers than others.This has little too do with racism, so stop making it. *I deliberately say tendencies because anyone can be anything. however there are trends.

You know the bigger problem in this situation? Maybe the fact 94% of academy members are white, and 77% are men, and i'm not saying they're monsters, but they tend to acknowledge only a certain type of art. You guys keep bringing up "maybe black people didnt deserve it" blablabla. Yeah I see your point. The problem is not there. The problem is, that poc (not only black) will never get roles that are as complex, layered, or non-stereotypical, as white people. Because they have the advantage of neutrality. Neutrality in this society is white male. You guys are here when it comes to complaining about DiCaprio or Amy Adams never winning. I refuse to believe that 95% of talented actors and actresses are white. We never see asian people win oscars. rarely latinos. black people as well. "The only thing that seperates women of color from white women is OPPORTUNITY". But go on, little geniuses that think they know better than everyone.

+kelm00 So people simplely disagree are now trolls?
@xMlleCheerry9 жыл бұрын
Anonymous _ Not at all, you didn't understand my comment and didn't care to do so. I just said : first off the Academy should represent the industry a little better, by being more open with their eligibility (i'm not saying take someone bc they're black) because when that happens, already we'll have more people who are sensible to other subjects and type of films OVERALL (i'm not saying the Academy is racist at all). I don't suggest we fix the problem by "nominating more poc" or "add quotas". I suggest Hollywood changes and makes room for more interesting POC roles. I refuse to believe that 90% of the best actors and directors and screenwriters are whites. It's highly unlikely. It's a problem of opportunity. That's just it. Didn't you hear what she said un the video? Black people win AAs when they're playing slaves, maids or basketball players. Not when they're playing Dr King or a successful boxer. Go ahead and tell me "they just didn't deserve it", cause I can put Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr and so many undeserving nominees/winners in your face. Dont get me started on Asian people/Latino people/native americans either. They get even more stereotypical roles. You just didn't read my comment or try to understand out point, I dont see any other alternative here
@anonymous_50169 жыл бұрын
Emma Domenech *"I suggest Hollywood changes and makes room for more interesting POC roles"* Why do you want affirmative action so much? Why can't movie makers just make the type of movie that *they* want to make and *you* make your own? Hollywood shouldn't have to cater to you.

Religous movies are the most whitewashed ever. They always depect Jezus, Mozes, Noah etc. as white men while they come from a region in the middle-east. You don't see too many white men over there. But casting an actor from middle-eastern decent seems like something that's really hard for Hollywood. They'd rather cast middle-eastern actors only for the roles of terrorists or criminals. The stereotype seems that middle-eastern people can only be agressive and insane in movies. Even series like Homeland show high educated muslim people but then there's a plottwist that they are actually a terrorist. Pushing the image into peoples heads that even a highly educated muslim that's living all of his live in the US, without a beard, and in a suit actually also is a badguy. This is even more extreme than what's happening with black actors. You also don't see any attention towards Asian actors or hispanic ones. Hispanic actors usually are drugdealers. Asians usually are being cast as nerds or weaklings.

Haha, you do realize that the nominees are nominated based on their performances and skills and not the color of the skin? Adding an actor of color to the list of nominees even if his performance was weak would be a detriment, not a boost. It would be the same as awarding Hillary Clinton the presidency because she is a woman, and not because of her political positions. The Academy got the categories mostly right this year; I can't think of a single woman who deserved to replace the men nominated for Best Director. And plus, I'm actually a person of color. The fact that you people get so bothered when people of color aren't nominated for something like the Oscars astounds me. Do the world a favor, though, and shut up.

A very strong argument for the lack of racial diversity in the oscars and hollywood in general is that there are far more white people in the U.S. population than any other race. It's basic math really; the reason there aren't as many Oscar nominated black women or black men is because there are much less of them, and if say 5% of a race is generally talented, the 5% of black people would be much less than the 5% of white people in America. Unless there are actual statistics showing that people of color have not been nominated because they are discriminated against (and I can't imagine how in the world you would measure something like that when the quality of a movie is generally subjective), there is no reason to believe so.
@jessicazhang15639 жыл бұрын
+Jessica Zhang Another thing is that you didn't actually put in any specific nominees that would've deserved it more than them. That lowers the strength of your argument by not offering an alternative solution, as well as not even explaining why those people don't deserve their Oscars, other than the fact that they are mainly white.

His acting wasn't that great in The Revenant, I mean he was good, but he was way better in What's Eating Gilbert Grape and The Aviator. I hope Michael Fassbender wins
@barbaragordon61779 жыл бұрын
Andrés Baez The academy basically owes Leo at this point, and I'm bias as hell. Fassbender should have won it for 'Shame' and he was great in '12 Years a Slave', but Redmayne on fire.

+Barbara Gordon Wasn't there an actor who won an Oscar twice in a row? Maybe it was during the Pre-Code Golden Age of Hollywood. Back when you weren't nominated for just one particular role.
@barbaragordon61779 жыл бұрын
Livia in HI "Five individuals have won back to back Oscars one year after another, can you name them? Luise Rainer was the first, in 1936 and 1937. Spencer Tracy won the lead acting Oscar two years in a row, 1937 and 1938. Katharine Hepburn won the Lead Actress Oscar two years in a row in 1967 and 1968, and then Jason Robards won the Supporting Actor Oscar two years back to back in 1976 and 1977. Most recently, Tom Hanks won back to back Oscars in 1993 and 1994 for two very different performances, a gay lawyer dying of AIDS in PHILADELPHIA, and a simple man making his way through life in FORREST GUMP" Eddie's coming for that list. Haha

During Will Smiths career, He's been nominated in movie awards 85 times and has won 45 of them. Will Smith has almost 50 awards and winning a little over half of every time he gets nominated. Making him one of the most prestigious and awarded actors in the US. Also, Denzel Washington, nominated 91 times and has won 39 awards. Granted these aren't all Oscars, their accolades, recognition, and contribution are obvious.
@bluboo89 жыл бұрын
I don't think she's stupid at all... She even said it may be a coincidence (implying that the awards are to recognize those for the merit of their work) and then she gave statistics that do seem interesting because they correlate with the nominees. She doesn't hate whites; just because you want to be represented in such a prominent award show doesn't mean you hate whites.

Here's how you actively participate in fixing this: 1 Write/direct your own low budget film. 2 With the new recognition a film brings, write a big budget film and approach the major studios with it. (This one isn't so easy for anyone not already in the loop, but new people do get in there some times, the first point can help with that, persistence is key for anyone trying this) 3 Make the best damn film you can and win an award for your hard work. And there you go, then we would have a black female best director winner, and I would enjoy another great film. Thank you.

+Golden x Diva Actually, you anti-white racists are getting pretty much destroyed with facts and resort to the usual name calling tantrums when confronted with them. Care to try some facts? Do you have your angry tears tissues ready?
@goldenxdiva65629 жыл бұрын
+fizicsmcmanus 1) being pro-black doesn't make someone anti-white. You guys are so self absorbed, why does everything having to be about white people? "Ugh, these black people love being black! IT MUST MEAN THEY HATE ME! IT'S ALL ABOUT MEEEEEE!" 2) minorities can't be racist when racism is a system of advantages based on race & supported by institutions, policies & practices that benefit dominant groups & disadvantage subdominant groups. Racism is a social expression of power & privilege.I don't benefit at all from the system. People can hate, be prejudice to & bully white people, but to be racist against them? Nah. 3) who name calling? I said white people mad, that's not name calling, it's a fact. (See all the comments telling Fran to swallow bleach & kill herself). Did she threaten any white lives in this video (or ever for that matter?) no, but you guys resort to threats of doing her bodily harm, reallll mature. I'm not gonna have an argument in a comments section. Peace to you
@fizicsmcmanus9 жыл бұрын
+Golden x Diva Yep the usual "Blacks can't be racist because.... bullshit" some other gobbledygook that I don't want to read because it's just more bullshit that excuses your racism and a "I'm quitting the conversation!" because you just can't admit that you are embracing a system that allows you to spew racist bullshit while remaining immune to being called out on it. NEWSFLASH, no one buys this bullshit outside of your echo chambers, no one buys that you can spew hatred because reasons. Another racist down, NEXT
@goldenxdiva65629 жыл бұрын
+fizicsmcmanus did you even read my comment? You're so ready to fight and go guns blazing but you can't even read. I said people can be mean, prejudice and even bully white people (that all falls under the umbrella term of hate), but you can't be racist against white people (again, "racism" falls under the umbrella term of "hate" too but it's a different concept). You need to stop trying to play the victim and see the bigger picture. The world works in favor of white males, even areas that are minority dominant those with lighter (see: white seeming) features are favored and if you're lying to yourself if you say I'm wrong. I can throw alllll the facts at you #FactsForDays but ain't nobody tryna argue on KZbin. PEACE TO YOU (& leave it just at that for once, peace) ✌🏿️✌🏿
@fizicsmcmanus9 жыл бұрын
+Golden x Diva oh that's rich, I honestly can't believe you are telling ANYONE to stop being the victim, dear God, do you actually believe the bullshit you are spouting? Yes, your racist bullshit is "special", right? Give me a break, do you honestly believe anyone buys that? hahaha

Girl, I'm sorry about all the dumb racists who think they can tell you you're wrong. You're not wrong. At all. They're asking you to name one black woman who has directed an incredible film this year and deserves the oscar more than any of the white guys, and nobody has an answer because there's nobody to name. You know why? BECAUSE THE PLAYING FIELD IS NOT EQUAL. I'm sure there are many many black women who would do an incredible job at directing a movie, but because of their gender and ethnicity, they are not given equal opportunity. It's not written down in stone that they don't get equal opportunity; it's just racism and sexism, working in subtle (and often overlooked) ways. Duh. Hello. Good day.

Math lesson of the day: Number of oscar winners per year: 4 Number of Oscar winners the last 15 years: 4*15=60 Black actors that has won the oscar the last 15 years: Halle Berry + Denzel Washington + Jamie Foxx + Morgan Freeman + Forest Whitaker + Jennifer Hudson + Mo'Nique + Octavia Spencer + Lupita Ny'ongo = 9 people Percentage of black winners the last 15 years: 9/60=15% Percentage of black americans: 13% Conclution: Based on statistics of the last 15 years, black actors are more likely to win an Oscar than white people.
