This just moved to the top of my list for my next (2nd) bike. Think of it like a stripped down BMW SX1000S. It has 90% of the power, is still light and agile but with a more sport suspension. Great seating - just no frills. No electronics other than traction control. But a great price point!

I have a 2016 GSX-S1000F (with ABS) in Triton Blue. Basically the same bike as in the video, but add a fairing with a wind deflector/shield and ABS. Plus with the fairing you get the two headlight configuration. My GSX-S1000F is the most comfortable best handling motorcycle I have every ridden (my seventh bike). I used to zoom around on a 2001 Suzuki Bandit 1200S with a Yoshimura exhaust system upgrade and loved it, but this handles better, feels much lighter, is way more agile and has more power. Is it smooth? Yes, smooth as silk and shifts like butter (if you know what I mean). The power is wonderful and fully usable. You have to ride it to understand how light it feels and how agile and nimble it is. The angle of the seat to the handlebars is better than the Bandit (less forced lean into the handle bars, thus more comfortable with less pressure against my hands). The sound of my GSX-S1000F is perfect exactly the way it comes with a totally cool looking muffler and the brakes are really good. If I didn't know better, I'd think Suzuki designed my "Gixy" specifically for me, because for me it is exactly right...a work of art...perfect.

I also have been riding a 2001 1200 Bandit for about 15 years (got my saddle sore certification from the IBA on it) with my first one for about 4 before that. . Perfect hearing you went from the Bandit to this. I have been thinking of doing the same.

I really appreciate your personality and thoroughness. I am 46 years old and can relate to your perspective, very mature, logical and real. I have wanted an FJR 1300 for years, but due to lack of funds bought a Versys 650. I learned that my next bike must be a purchase from the heart and to not try to compromise more than I have to. I wasn't even considering the naked bike I saw in the store (gsx-s 1000), but I sat on it anyway. I looked to the sales guy and said "you are going to sell a lot of these". Besides the throttle abruptness ,which I hope Suzuki fixes, it seems Suzuki has hit their mark, after taking aim a fairly long time, with this bike (a couch rocket for the ergonomically [read older] challenged). It is just splitting hairs but I think of this bike as more of a comfortable sport bike than an adventure bike as mentioned in the video a few times. I sense the excitement in your voice. I would be surprised if you didn't buy this bike. Due to me living in California now, and probably shipping the bike back to Hawaii later, I think the added nimbleness and cooling wind might work even better than an FJR would for me in the warmer climates in which I live. Thanks for the great reviews Bryan.

Those turn signals are made that way so that they dont break if someone is walking drunk beside ur parked bike and bump into them they just flex back and come right back to there position, very useful tbh, I have had my stiff signals broken one too many times.

i ride the tuono, the 3 ride modes that is common with the new bigger bikes nowadays are just bling, i rather they remove it and keep the price lower, bikes only need 2 electronics, ABS and TC, good to see that suzuki didn't join in the hype and all those redundant electronics

Rented one of these with a yoshimura today, its a friggin beast. Sounds like a beast, and drives silky smooth. It was my first 1000cc ride and you just hop right on and boom you are smoking supercars at a red light. I am stupid tho I am going for the fireblade just cuz it looks cooler.

you probably already know this, but the reason that the blinkers bounce is they are rubber mounted so the lights will last longer (the light bulbs) and so if u bump them they dont bust off quite as easy

also, nakeds tend to have softer suspension on purpose. mostly for two reasons, they are trying to appeal to different groups than their full on sportbikes do (so people that want more power but for various reasons such as being older want softer and comfier suspension) and almost more importantly, the stiff racing suspension is really really expensive and they are trying to also appeal to groups of people that don't want to spend the money like the superbikes cost

You mentioned the S1000R had a lot more power. According to most dyno graph overlays I've seen which compared these two, no, the Suzuki made slightly more (almost imperceptible) until about 10 grand, where the Beemer pulls away. They are basically identical until the last few thousand revs. In fact BMW took it's design inspirations for that 998 engine from the K5 Gixxer from what I've read in various places. With a full exhaust, filter, ECU flash the GSX-S makes 155 and 85 at the wheel, while losing another 12 pounds or so of dead weight. It's a beast, and affordable.
@rich.dodd1
@rich.dodd1 5 жыл бұрын
The BMW has more power and is slightly faster, the throttle and lull in power in midrange are the worse things about this bike. Mid way round a corner you start to feed the throttle on and bang it jolts the bike upsetting the suspension, once it's been tuned I'm sure it's smooth as butter but from factory my 2016 is a bucking bronco. The suspension is adequate but not great but mid corner the engine lunging the bike is bad which ever way you look at it. The BMW is not perfect however it is better, side by side for free, if you had to pick you'd pick BMW, however being £4500 more it makes the gixer look a bargain hence why I bought it. I'm going to get mine put on a Dyno and tuned once I get the arrow headers on. It's a lovely bike around though, I think it looks killer red/black naked 🤘

Ok I will take full credit for recommending a test ride of this bike ;) Suzuki has hit some homeruns as far as engines, this older gen gsxr engine and the tl1000 in my vstrom among others. What is interesting is the foresight to bring it back for their naked bike. Since I am very familiar with this engine and the older gen R1 engine in the FZ1, both are great but if I had to choose, and choose for the street, the suzuki wins. I wish the throttle was a little more smooth like inline 4's are but if you want that get a bandit.

nice, liked that ya talked about the wideness of the seat. as a shorter rider 172cm,(feet?) I have trouble to get my feet on the ground, then new R1 is a nightmare if that is considered. My old daytona 675 with its high seat but almost as narrow as on a bicycle seat was a class act that let me touch the ground with both my feet without standing on the toes. thought that the new gsx-s would be about the same but it was not, to bad.

Is the F version the exact same bike with a faring or is its gearing also different?
@ryangordon3798
@ryangordon3798 8 жыл бұрын
+T Brown; The standard and the faired version are exactly the same, the only difference is the faired version has stiffer front forks due to the added weight of the fairings. The faired version has a wet weight of 471 lbs. Which is 11-12 lbs. heavier than the standard w/abs. The F version will be more stable at the front end at high speeds though.

I've owned 3 Z1000s (07, 11, and a 14) and now own a GSXS1000. The latest Z1000 looks better in my opinion. It's sharper focused and has a much thinner seat. The GSXS is more comfortable to me. It's also smoother. My Z1000 averaged 120 miles per tank. The gsxs seems to net 180 or so. Both are great bikes. I prefer the GSXS. Feels a bit quicker. The on/off throttle issue is real. I made it better with adjusting the throttle cables and a throttle tamer. It's pretty smooth now.

+ZIPPER978 , I test rode this bike a few months ago and you'll definitely won't be sacrificing any power, although Suzuki claims 145 brake horsepower but in fact this bike is putting out about 160 hp at the crank and 140-145 hp at the wheel and for a bike that weighs 460 lbs. wet. that's alot, In short this bike is fricking fast. I'm 5' 8" and this bike is very nimble, I can easily flat foot it, the rear sets are high enough to give enough ground clearance on the twisties, if you get a chance to test ride one do it, you won't be disappointed.

@exothermal.sprocket

The GSX-S has a couple issues. One is common with most factory bikes which is the throttle tube has some cable slop (turn a couple nuts and problem is solved). The other is extremely lean factory fueling in the lower revs, which causes partial throttle surging. This can be fixed with a Powercommander or ECU flash, both of which will give a lot more power overall. FZ-09 has nearly the same issues. Lurching throttle on the FZ is a matter of programming in the different modes. A mode is the computer interpreting smaller throttle rotations and applying faster and bigger motion in the throttlebody flies via the servo. Otherwise, the Yamaha also has fueling issues (blame the regulations).
