2016 Volvo XC90 CarPlay

Can you text and make calls without CarPlay ?

Can you still use the iPhone by itself while it's connected by CarPlay? (For instance, use an incompatible to CarPlay App).

+talamasca75 Yes, the iPhone by itself is still functional. But.. there's always a but, the app which is open on the car's screen, for example, maps would also be open on the iPhone, and if you wish to use a different app on the iPhone, you would have to close the app on the phone, which would close the app on the car (Maps in this case).

+Mercedes HH Ho OK. That's a disappointment... I thought it was like with my Apple TV. I can stream a video from my iPhone on the ATV and in the same time check my emails on the iPhone's screen. Thank you so much for your feedback.

+Tony Rodriguez It is said that they are working on Android Auto for the XC90 with the update coming sometime this year. That is actually what I am looking forward to as I use an android phone. I will do another video when that update comes out.

Is the touchscreen an optional extra?

+Tom 1851 Here in the United States this touch screen is standard on all XC90s. Unfortunately, Apple CarPlay is an optional accessory for I believe something like $325.

+himalay majumdar Yes, you can add it at a later date via a software update done by the dealer.

I would like to know how you get you're car to do the Up-Date, I have the same car, and i never got any updates for it yet, Still don't have Apple Car Play, I'm going crazy trying to get an up-date for it. I have it check for updates every day and nothing is available, I can't find any help online about it. I am begging for help! lol Thank you!

You would have to bring it in to the dealer for the big updates like this one. Also, not sure if you know about this but swedespeed is a great forum to get help from. Hopefully you could get your car updated!!

Apple CarPlay is the main reason I want the xc90 but reading the comments below, I must admit, it seems as if CarPlay is still in its infancy. I thought that CarPlay would've been integrated in the xc90 system! I didn't know you had to plug you iPhone in to use it. This is a big let down for me.

+MaxxABillion MaxxABillion yeah definitely. I really wished that volvo would incorporate the bluetooth carplay capabilities. Also i wish that an update could incorporate the tft dash and the heads up display (announced at wwdc 2016)
