Just cuz theres some run down neighborhoods doesnt mean its a complete dump... the shopping centers r pretty fancy and charming looking and has 2 great organic markets with imported products!!!! And has that awesome zoo and the indian mounds ! And so many forest trails ! And that awesome rivertown museum!!! All a place needs is a little bit of hope!!! I believe in evansville !! Just stay out of the bad parts of town

I believe that whenever Evansville gets on TV, especially national TV and says that our unemployment rate is way below the national average, they forget to mention that a large number of people in Evansville only earn 8 or 9 dollars an Hour! FAR BELOW THE NATIONAL AVERAGE!

@Joe Casson That is true. Hwy 41 is horrible, and the Lloyd Expwy on both the east and west sides are HORRIBLE! Nothing "express" about it, every mile theres a traffic light and you will get stopped at every single one.

What they don't show you: the homeless population growing, the constant and irritating construction nobody asked for (i.e. the Ford Center...what a waste of space!), poverty, crime, etc.. For example I woke up to gunshots this morning right down the street from me. Because a dangerous biker gang moved into our neighborhood and cops are now an almost constant presence with nothing being done. On Washington and HWY 41, citizens have been asking for a walk-over bridge for years to no avail! There are 2 schools, a middle school and a High School, nearby. Kids are crossing that busy, dangerous highway all the time. Nearly getting hit at times as motorists don't pay attention. How do I know? Because their solution was to hire 2 crossing guards there instead (I'm one of them). The south side is notorious for crime: theft, violence, shootings, drugs, and more! And nothing is getting done! But our downtown is improving! The Ford Center sits empty most of the time. Events are usually held at The Old National Events Plaza or Victory Theatre. And the constant construction makes the confusing one way street traffic even more so! There are so many problems in this city that only get ignored while Winnecke "improves" our city. What a joke!

@Ldylei 08 If your job is in Vincennes, I suggest to move there. Vincennes is approximately and hour and a half from Evansville. That is a long drive to and from work. If you really want to move to Evansville, the North side is great off First Ave. area. DO NOT MOVE TO THE SOUTH SIDE, JIMTOWN, DOWNTOWN!!! East and West sides are ok. Darmstadt (little town bordering Evansville is a nice little community). Also, if you are looking for a church, school, or anything else just let me know. There are also plenty of virtual Evansville communities on Facebook you can chat with just about anyone.

I have a friend running for mayor who wants to change all that and we are hoping and praying he gets the seat so us "unimportant" people can finally be heard!

I lived there for a while, it was ok . Iv'e seen worse . The pay was good for a town this size, i was in the bricklayers union, scale was 24$ hr there, not to bad, actually 2 $ higher than Louisville KY. Indianapolis was 30$ but Indy is horrible. Louisville is 10 times more happening than Indianapolis

Stop light city may be growing but its definitely not moving at least not to quickly. Blah,blah,blah,thats all good and well ,you know every ones has a pipe dream . The reality is the fact that your thurofares ,free way ,and inner city parking is ridiculous. There is no inner city parking strategicly placed for residential or downtown parking. The Loyd slow way is embarrassingly slow,and out dated filled with stoplights. I guess that must be a hoosier thing. Consistently evety year the freeways and inner city roads are under repair maintenance and reconstruction. If there was a major disaster or natural catastrophe people could not be moved out fast enough efficiently,and safely. You would think with all of the great renowned accomplishments hoosiers have made in eduction,agriculture,medicine so forth. That they coild intelligently build an efficient freeway.
