An old WW1 soldier from the UK said to me that if he knew the ANZACS and Canadians were nearby he would be alright as they could be relied on. Always remembered that.

Rommel was quoted as say the Australians and the New Zealanders were the best troops he had ever faced. Though I am old enough to remember that a the grand father of a friend of mine who had encoutered the Aussies in the First World War, as an ally, said no braver but ill disciplined. Looking at that parade they are now more tha well disciplined. So smart.

@@rorymac7714 They hated the British rule and the bad mistakes they made with the Anzacs and the Aussies lost respect and you need to be undisciplined in a war when it comes to saving your arse and your mates. They would steal anything and everything they can even if it was bolted down. Hence why the British hated them too. In the second war even Hilter hated the Aussies as they would steal his weapons and bombs and then use them on the Germans.

@Uncle not talking about Britain and its rule over Australia as that dissolved in 1901. I am talking about Britain's Rule over the Anzacs in the first part of WWI and most men volunteered because they wanted to travel, keep Australia safe and the love for Britain and so on. Australia earned respect from a lot of countries during WWI

What did Rommel say in the African campaign in ww2 when the Aussies and kiwis were making a monkey out of Rommel ( he said these hard badtards ) give me a division of Aussies and I will win the war . Without doubt the best soldiers in the world .. I know I was one. You have all the crap playing out in ukraine right now ! The Russian army is like the old British sit com ( dads army ) nothing but drunken bums .You put 30.000 hard Aussie soldiers with the right gear into that theatre of war right now, and the 30 kopeck drunken Russian soldiers would all be rounded up / beaten up i/ and crawling back to the Russian border in a fortnight.

Not strictly 100% correct. US did not lead ww1 or ww2 but was a late arrival in both. USA did not get militarily involved in ww1 until 1917 and Australian troops were involved from 1914 and same goes for ww2 where again USA troops did not get militarily involved until 1941 (after the bombing at Pearl Harbour although they had sent weapons to Allies before then) and Australia declared war on Germany in 1939.

I doubt its ANZAC Day here. Freedom of Entry is a tradition granted by Cities etc from time to time in UK & Commonwealth Countries. The actual citation goes - Freedom of the City is an ancient honour granted to martial organisations, allowing them the privilege to march into the city "with drums beating, colours flying, and bayonets fixed". This honour dates back to ancient Rome - particularly bearing arms

@saintsone7877
@saintsone7877 Ай бұрын
About the same for me but disagree they were fat(as a group). Yes, there were Officers who were obviously fat and some diggers who were obviously somewhat overweight but would not say they were fat. Personally, I would say less than 10% even approached that category overall. I thought the marching left a lot to be desired as arms were at different levels but mainly because they did not line the troops up properly according to height as we used to do in the past. The smallest should always be leading with the tallest at the end but here they seemed to have the smallest in the middle of each group with tallest leading and ending. That creates the varied arm heights which looks terrible to the trained eye. Spent 4 years on honour guards in late 1960's and early 1970's. I would say these troops marched once before the day as a group and as stated were poorly sorted regards uniformity in height.

I served in The Second Fouth Battalion Royal Australian Regiment in the eighties , every time we marched through Townsville to receive the Key to the City beer glasses , half cans of beer , rubbish , verbal abuse would be thrown at us . My mate got spat right in the face , having Bayonets fixed he broke ranks and would have killed that civilian piece of shit but three of us stopped him just in time . Turned out most of the abuse every year was organised by The James Cook University , a week later The Battalion organised a Company attack (90 Men) on the Campus in the wee small hours wirh grenade and artillery simulators , smoke , parachute elimination flares , thousands upon thousands of blank machine gun rounds , well you get the picture , i know they certainly did and to my knowledge the salt of the earth Diggers only receive aplouse these days . Im not going to tell you about the battle of Brisbane during the second world war , something about yanks and cheating Wives . If your civilian with no hope and no pride join The Royal Australian Regiment and challenge yourself and get some real mates . 😁🇦🇺🦘
