@VinceLeMusicien6 жыл бұрын
Just got one of these in 256gb last week, so far I love it. Performances in apple pro apps (final cut / logic) are insane. Such a great machine to work daily with. Snappy and the keyboard isn't bad at all. Just different but so far I'm getting use to it and love typing on this machine, even though it's clicky and loud. The speakers are the best. Being a musician, I can totally see myself mixing tracks on them. So far a great experience, I'm just concerned on how well it will age. My last one 2010 mbp was strong as a rock. These new one are very refined piece of tech but don't feel as strong as older models.
@DecontructRecreate6 жыл бұрын
LE MUSICIEN I really doubt the speakers will provide good reference for mixing. A good pair of headphone monitors is necessary, at the very least. But it’s true that they are so good that watching movies or casually listening to music will be a pleasure.
@VinceLeMusicien6 жыл бұрын
Deconstruct//Recreate i should clarify. I mix professionally and i have all the gear, softwares interfaces and speakers you name it. It’s nice to have a mix that sounds great in the best environment with great gear but that doesn’t necessarily means it works in real life. in the end it’s all about the end user experience with the music and these speakers provide enough low end and overall clarity to match that « average user » experience, imho. Hence this machine could provide a very decent mixing tool on the go.

Could very well be true. I'll know for sure once I get my hands on my own model, should be arriving soon!

I agree the touch bar isn’t a “must have” but the extra ports and the context shortcuts on the touchpad is handy when I’m typing and not docked. I don’t mind the keyboard, I don’t have any issues when using the magic keyboard when using an external monitor and then switching to the MBP’s keyboard when I’m out.

It's fast, reliable and doesn't need a software reboot after the battery dies, it just wakes up. The productivity of the device almost makes me not as angry about not having the multiple ports that were in the last model.

Apple should'nt have change their function keys from physical to touch bar. I think they would be better off if they just improved on the mechanism and reliability of their physical keys and also getting rid of the Power button and move it to the side. They should have placed the "Touchbar" in the lower part of the LCD bezel I think that is a win-win design for Apple.

I have the same basic spec 2017 model, and I can say with certainty that the shared CPU-GPU graphics are NOT twice as fast as the graphics on the 15" model as stated.
@InfinityLabsTech6 жыл бұрын
The spec sheet says 48 execution units for HD640 vs 24 on the HD530 graphics. It’s not exactly twice as fast, but nobody wants to hear me give exact decimal values so I said twice as fast. And as for dedicated graphics, I don’t think anyone’s going to believe a 15 watt CPU is faster than a dedicated 45 watt GPU built on the same 14nm architecture.
@rhodesshah46036 жыл бұрын
I have to admit I am only going by having experience of using both models and not by using hard data or specifications.

0:56 you claim that graphics performance is twice as fast as the 15”. What year model 15”? Any numbers to back it up? Sounds very dubious.
@InfinityLabsTech6 жыл бұрын
I wasn't clear enough - I was comparing just the integrated graphics in that case. Intel HD530 vs Intel HD 640. Intel's spec page says the 640 has twice the execution units as the 530, so roughly twice as fast. The 15" Pro has weaker Intel graphics, but the AMD card is much faster than both Intel GPUs.

I was gonna agree that they won't, but there is that new Intel chip with dedicated AMD Vega graphics so that's a possibility. At best it'll be a custom design with lower wattage and will definitely need GPU switching for Apple to use it. Ultrabooks are more low power, thin and light laptops geared for battery life so I really doubt we'll get anything significant.

I need help!! I'm a design student and I mostly use Adobe programs like Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign but I will eventually use 3D modeling program like AutoCAD. Do you think the MacBook Pro 13" base model (128GB storage + 8GB RAM) will be enough for me in terms of storage and performance?
@InfinityLabsTech6 жыл бұрын
128GB storage is extremely little for photo work, especially if you're using RAW files. At minimum I'd recommend getting an external hard drive or upgrading to 256GB. The 13" will work fine for the Adobe apps, although some 3D features won't work in PS because it doesn't have dedicated graphics. But AutoCAD is gonna be real tough since it's graphics heavy and the 13" only uses integrated graphics and dedicated graphics are only available on the 15" models. I would ask on a forum like tomshardware or reddit.com/r/suggestalaptop. Generally speaking, 13" laptops don't have powerful graphics. 15" Laptops are bigger and have more cooling to support fast graphics cards for heavy 3D work
@kennakhalisha6 жыл бұрын
performance is yes but i'm not sure with the storage, you can still buy it but you need an external harddisk

I have old windows computer for a long time and I consider to buy a new MacBook Pro. I won’t use it for editing, I’ll use it for documents (for school), games etc. Should I buy it? Is it worth it? Or I should go with windows?
@BeesonsCars6 жыл бұрын
Idan Hevroni you’ve probably already bought a computer, but I would absolutely recommend a MacBook. I’ve used MacBook’s extensively for the past 8 years and have never regretted it. I’ve had a 2007 MacBook (2.0 ghz core 2 duo.) A 2011 15” MacBook Pro (2.0 ghz Quad Core i7, amd Radeon graphics), A 2014 MacBook Pro Retina 15” (2.5 ghz Quad Core i7, Nvidia GeForce 755m) and a 2015 MacBook Air 11” (1.6 ghz Dual Core i5, intel hd 6000 graphics). All of them except the air have been my personal computer for over a year each (3 for both the pro’s.) They’ve been reliable, fast, and enjoyable to use. The air is my school assigned MacBook that I get to use both at home and at school during the school year. I enjoy using the air for document editing, productivity, and light video tasks (iMovie). The only downfall of the air is the horrible screen, 1366x768 in 2018 is laughably bad. It’s really noticeable during all tasks. The 14’ MBPr is a fantastic computer that’s very very powerful and enjoyable to use. The screen is gorgeous and the speed is perfect for heavy final cut editing, photoshop, and light gaming (OS X sucks for gaming but the computer will do well on Win10. ) I recommend getting a MacBook with the Retina display at least (don’t buy the air) and unless you need lots of power, the base MBPr like this or the MacBook is perfect for school work, productivity, and light video/photo editing. The size and design are perfect for a student and the battery life is incredible. Plus apples support has always been great for me and their products have been long lasting and reliable.

@InfinityLabsTech6 жыл бұрын
Lightroom should be fine, but Premiere is a bit more taxing. Relatively simple 1080p edits will work fine on it but if you start using effects and plugins, or you start editing in 4K, that's when it'll start to slow down. Final Cut Pro will let you edit 4K with plugins on this thing but the editing style is very different compared to Premiere. Also, the base model only comes with 128GB and you'll want a bit more than that if you're editing videos. You can either buy the 256GB model or get an external hard drive since they're dirt cheap.

The graphics card of the 13" is better than the 15" one? What?
@InfinityLabsTech6 жыл бұрын
I probably worded that poorly. So the 13” has double the “cores” on the Intel graphics compared to the 15”, but the 15” has a second high performance GPU that’s even faster. The 15” automatically switches between Intel and AMD graphics to save battery life so what I meant to say was the 13” performs very well in light use (where the 15” would also be using the Intel graphics).
