As a life time Windows and Linux user, buying a MacBook pro with M2 Max earlier this year was quite an experience. The performance is amazing and I've found that it's become my daily driver instead than firing up my noisy and heat generating i9 13900k gaming rig to use it for work and non-gaming related tasks. I'm quite impressed on where Apple has taken their laptops today.
@Ben-rz9cf Жыл бұрын
I've been using unreal engine on an M1 macbook air and just recently the performance you could expect has jumped from playable framerates at low settings to high or even epic graphics. This is more a testament to Epic finally optimizing for apples hardware but it also shows just how much performance you can squeeze out of a bottom of the line apple silicon chip if you actually bother to design for it. And people were already impressed by what it could do under rosetta.

If I'm not mistaken, the apple logo lighting up doesn't waste power. It uses the light from the display. If you shine a bright light on the Apple with the screen off, you'll see the light come through. Normally displays have a layer that prevents this.
@Later_Nerd Жыл бұрын
MacOS 10 on the iBook is seriously impressive. The design looks shockingly modern for just how old it is. I've generally been a Windows/Android guy for most of my life (but I bounce back and forth and you should too because both are excellent.) But Apple has always had their finger on the pulse of design. When it comes to hardware and software/UI, Apple has been top notch in this regard. I have always appreciated Apples relentless focus on making things look beautiful and easy to use. It's that obsessive attention to detail that has made them the most successful, and by FAR the most influential tech company on the planet.
@papasivir42419 күн бұрын
I wish we could go back to that style of user interface design. We went from these incredibly basic active Matrix displays that could only really display very basic sprites to these multiple times more powerful machines that really show their power by showing you these beautifully detailed icons that look like they could be real objects. It's like you were peering into another reality while using your computer. Now we have hundreds of times more power but just as flat of designs going on as in the 90s and there's not even a technological limitation behind it. We only have more colorfulness and more sharpness but the original aqua designs with these improvements would be genuinely surreal to look at I can guarantee you. I mean just imagine the beautiful 3D glass dock with these amazing marble sheen icons and a 4K HDR image of like a snow leopard or those beautiful purple space wallpapers from Mac OS Lion but with modern levels of pixel density and color. We could do so much more with that design language but instead we're wasting it on this boring unimaginative UI.

I worked for Apple and an Apple Centre in the UK in the 90's. I was a pre-press media specialist for a few years in central London and one of the things we promoted was the first and second laptops you see here. As well as the first ever colour laser printer, that was just A4 (oh Apple, you forgot the bleed). A lot of people simply couldn't imagine working on one back then. Many simply thought, why should I take my work home with me, or out of the office, that is my time. How times have changed!

@@initialdluvrbelieve it or not you can make a mid 2009 MacBook work in 2024. The sheer longevity of Apple's devices (in the computer space at least) is insane. The 2009 MacBook with minor upgrades is literally thousands of times better than a low end Windows machine from today. It's kind of insane. When I was looking for laptops for my mom who had a budget of like $350 I was absolutely appalled by how low the storage space was and how it was all emmc. It's utterly insane I bought a Macbook 2009 (I'm a retro enthusiast I mainly just did it for fun) for like 100 bucks and then threw another 60 in there for a terabyte SATA SSD and I think like 20 bucks for a little bit of extra RAM and it blew me away at how much better it was than the mid-range machines of today for a 15-year-old device. Bonkers. Obviously I'm not still running the last supported version of Mac OS but that's the thing. Because Apple has such a narrow product line all with very similar specifications it makes it so easy for the enthusiast community to develop for Macs. Also, enthusiasts just have an itch for going after apple with their locked down proprietary nature and so the millisecond a mac goes unsupported by Apple there's thousands of enthusiasts making sure that they can patch the newest version of Mac OS to function usually fairly well on these unsupported devices. Not to mention Linux support is a very big thing as well. Recently the open core team made it to where Mac OS Sequoia can be ran on the MacBook 2009 and once you apply the graphics driver and USB driver patches it literally runs unbelievably well for a 15-year-old machine running a 2024 operating system. ❤Jesus Christ is the only way to be fulfilled. I'm writing this as I just had an encounter with Jesus the Almighty God. I was being tempted by demonic forces. I fell into temptation, and I ran away from the Lord. This hasn't been the first time. I have been on a on and off cycle which seemed to be an endless. But today, I feel called to share this testimony. I watched a video which really opened my eyes while I was still "hiding" from God. It touched my soul to the point that I fell on my knees right away, and begged for forgiveness and guidance. This was beyond anyother feeling I've felt while repenting. This one felt true. I had been like mad at God for being dumped by my this girl I was talking to. So this was a way to be tempted by evil demonic forces. I would get intrusive thoughts, and I kept trying to solve this feeling of being dumped on worldly things. And let me tell you, it only makes it worse. If you're someone who is not sure if you're saved, or if you are saved, but have been going through these on and off cycles such as porn, or secular music(which are other cycles I've been having a difficult time with) I want you to call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the way, the truth, and the life. If you don't know what to do, I want you to get on your knees, and pray this prayer with your heart: Jesus, I believe you died on the cross for my sins, and was ressurected on the third day. I believe you came to the Earth, to pay for our sins. Thank you for dieing on the cross for my sins, in Your Name, I pray, amen. I don't know who is reading this, but if you ever fill an empty whole, which cannot be fulfilled, the only way to fulfill is by Jesus. When you turn your back on Jesus, you seek everything other then him. All worldly things, will never fill that hole. God Bless Yall! ❤

Failed to mention that Apple, with the PowerBook 100 (1991), redesigned the laptop concept which is the one we still use today: moved the keyboard to the back and the display hinge to the back edge and centered the "mouse" in front of the user. Laptops before the PB100 (including the Macintosh Portable) had the keyboard in front, trackball to the side and display hinge in the middle.

small correction there. The logo that light's up doesn't use extra battery and is the same light from the screen. as explained below. It gets light from the backlight. The glowing Apple logo is not a light, but rather a window into the backlight of the display. The Apple Logo is illuminated from the rear of the display panel. The light from the display panel passes through Apple's logo, resulting in its illumination. Thank you for the work ! I love what you do !

My first laptop was the PowerBook G3 - I had the 333mhz version. After that I got the white 500mhz iBook G3 (had to buy and install the AirPort card separately to get the WiFi working). One model line you missed was the Duo - it was the first ultra portable which was so small it didn’t even have a floppy drive and there was a dock you could insert it into like a cartridge and provided support for media/enhanced GPU etc. was the MacBook Air of the 90s

While using bargain bucket PCs at home, it was the candy colored iBooks that were my introduction to Apple back in high school school; it just stuck with me and then upon being given an iBookG4 for going to college in '04 - that's when it became my personal computing choice. Yes, they have enormous (GIGANTIC) problems in how they do things, but I've always just enjoyed using their products more and am ok being within the ecosystem. This was a fascinating ride!

Honestly the only time I personally had a huge issue with apples computer products is just during the mid-2010s up to 2019 when they just kept removing functions to try and get them thinner and thinner and thinner when it provided little to no benefit after a while. In 2020 once they released the m-series macs it was like nature was healing LOL

The light up logo actually doesn't use any battery by itself. It uses the display backlight as a light source. So if there was any bright light _behind_ the display, it would shine through the apple logo and you would see a bright spot on the display. It was never really a real issue for me though.

This video was so cool! I just want to add some more info about the whole MacBook Air story. The first Air which Jobs pulled out of the envelope was very much high end in price, with a pretty bad spec sheet at the time. One of the best decisions Apple took was to reposition the Air as a cheaper alternative to the more expensive Pros, a decision they took for the second generation and continue to this day.
