I have a customer with 2018 F150 with the plastic old Pan but the coolant lines are rusted out. Can I use this part number to replace mine with the plastic oil Pan? Will they fit ? The original part numbers for the tubes are obsolete but you have a part numbers ending in different letters ?

I heard you recommend, on the 5.4 that the 5W-20 was strictly Cafe and 5W-30 should be used, I have a 13 Edge with a 3.5 Duratech engine now was that strictly for Cafe reasons as well? Should I bump that up to 5w30. Thank you for your help..

I thank you very much for the two videos with the oil pan swap. Your detailed videos and the factory service manual made the job go smoothly. I have a 2017 F-150 4x4. That has the transmission cooling lines that don't interfere too much with this task. The truck front end was on ramps and the axle assembly did lower sufficiently to clear the oil pan. I'd like to add that a Proto rolling head pry bar (or another quality brand) works even better for getting the sump and block skirt stiffener off. The front drive shaft and transmission shift components didn't have to be disconnected as the two top transmission bolts are accessible from the passenger side for placing the flex socket on them and the remaining driver side fasteners are accessible with the long extensions as you noted. 45" of extension for the transmission bolts as you noted also. I did make my own etching wipes. It is phosphoric acid (per the Safety Data Sheet) which can be acquired from a beer brewing supply place fairly inexpensively. It does have to be diluted further with water. Paper towels were used with it. An adel clamp was used to hold the starter harness to the pan as the original plastic retainer does not line up with the mounting point on the aluminum pan. Lastly, the service manual calls for an additional angular displacement on a number of the fasteners after being torqued to the proper value. Many have an addition 45° called out. Again, I thank you for the very informative videos. The job took me a few days also and it was successful.

You would have thought a metal perimeter ring with longer bolts as a field upgrade would be a simpler fix. The old small block Chevy had elongated metal installed at each bolt to transfer the clamping surface at each bolt. It's ridiculous when you look at the amount of warping between the bolts. You have been my go to for Ford tech and I do appreciate the fact you specialize in Ford

Just in time for the third one that I am now attempting. The second one started leaking as I started to fill it back up for the first time. I didn't know about the single piece pan was even an option , but at least now I'll be pretty fast at it and it'll be done. I hate to say it but after over 30 years of driving Ford trucks This Is the End. After this is done I'm getting a Toyota Tundra . I never thought I'd do but I have had these trucks in the past 15 years have been nothing but constant headache for me. And I've tried them all the diesel the EcoBoost and I just can't believe the poor engineering that they have actually put in these trucks. I mean they're supposed to get better and here I was worried about all the new electronics but that was never even an issue for me because mechanically they failed before that stuff I was worried about. Everybody I know that has a Toyota they go 200 300 thousand miles on them with no issues consistently in my Fords when they hit 100K 125 I have done major repairs on systems that should never have to be worked on that soon. And it has just happened over and over again

Another fine video. Not exactly an easily done, on your back DIY project! You would have thought that Ford should have learned a lesson with the '11-'12 w/6.7 diesel that a plastic pan was a bad idea for any pick up. I guess the gas engine guys don't talk to the diesel guys. Oh well, since I no longer have/need my '11 F350 diesel and have a '19 F150 w/3.5 and aluminum pan, no longer a concern. PHEW!!

I bought a sheet of red silicone gasket 1/16" for like $50 and made my own gasket and 100K miles later it is still not leaking. Some advice for any DIYers. I actually even used that same material for my front engine cover and worked very well as well. I actually came to this video hoping they would cover the rear main seal leaking. Anyone else have that problem or some advice?

Still amazes me that the engineers have to know that metal and plastic expand and contract at different rates. That would lead to seal failure as both pieces are moving in different directions at different times.

They aren't the first...every freaking ounce costs now. I BMW and Mercedes both have plastic pans (and yes, both have had issues as well, just not as many). Reading on this, and discussing with a supplier friend, it appears to be two fold on the issues, improper Assembly (sealant application not correctly done), and warping of the pan. They are now using a gasket ilo applying sealant. I'd personally like to know what the resin is. For this kind of application (heat and durability), I'd be thinking an ABS with Glass Fill, or go real extreme and use a Nylon with LGF (Long Glass Fill). Could get real crazy and use an ASA with glass too...Lots of solutions would work. If they used PBT or PolyPro they were begging for issues.

You could use a slide hammer screw into the old upper and hammer down and all four corners. It’s not like you’re worried about damaging it.

It’s a fact of life for us here in the Midwest. One big benefit of switching to the all aluminum body in 2015 is we don’t have rusted out rockers or cab corners anymore! But, the frame and a lot of engine mounting components are steel and they do rust and corrode badly. Makes for fun times wrenching under there! I’ll work on a southern truck anytime! 👍😁

Looked pretty good to me. The worst bolts were the 2 transmission bolts on the cross member. The threads below where the nuts were are gone. Of course, this is all based on what he had to remove for this job. Probably if something else was shot there might be a lot of rust involved.

ford lost me as a customer when i owned a v10 ,ran good ,pasted everything on the road but a gas station, then they discontinued the ranger ,and then the 3 valve pos triton motor, then the no dipstick trans ,then going to plastic everywhere , will keep my 2001 ranger but will not go beyond that as I can still work on them and they are worth owning ,have 4 rangers now and 2 explorers ,enough to last my lifetime, new one are junk

Have you heard of any issues with the 2015 3.5L F150 fuel pump? mine just went out and the mechanic said he's never had to replace one of these before because they hardly ever go bad.

Great vid. Just went to ford the other day and said i have oil pan leak. They want $1200. The problem is that i can not do this work and can not trust nobody else around me to do the work. I would assume that if this does not get fix will it get worse? what if I never get it fix?

Does Ford have a revised valve cover for a 2013 3.5 ecoboost? The plastic ones are leaking onto the exhaust manifold and it always smells like burning oil. Love your channel.
