I've been a subscriber to this channel ever since Brian was shooting videos at the dealership then in his 1-car garage and have always enjoyed these multi-part, really long videos. I've personally done some of these repairs myseld and do appreciate the step-by-step details. Recently however, I've found it harder to watch really long videos because im now busier than ever working and also find it a little exhausting to watch really long videos after a long day at work. I may have also gotten used to Rainman Ray's shorter videos while Brian was on vacation for 4 months at a time lol

Great video, as usual. It makes me glad I don't have one of those. Although up there, with the road salt, I would just let it leak until the vehicle was ready for recycling. That big oil capacity pan reminded me of a video where a woman drove her Toyota from L.A. to San Francisco with less than a quart of black oil in the oil pan. The man who drained the oil could not believe she made it with so little oil in the engine. They changed the filter, filled it up, and the car ran fine. People like that are the main reason why they make oil pans so large. And more oil means the contamination is diluted. I was surprised when a railroad engineer said that they never changed the 200 gallons of oil in the locomotives he ran. He said they would just add however many gallons it had lost, and change the 2 huge oil filters on the engine. I don't know if that is true or not.

Excellent job. Now, maybe you can help we late model Ford Transit owners solve Ford's atrocious design issue with rain and salty winter road water pooling all over the top of the engine from a poorly designed windshield / cowl seal that eventually causes severely rusted engine bolts over time. Every time it rains, all the bolt hole wells in the intake manifold fill up to overflowing...It's Annoying!!! C'mon FORD!!!

Hi - I really like how you did the vids. Very nice details. I would love to have you replace the pan on my 2017 (prod date 11/16) but I'm too far away from you. I want to have this done because I'm tired of having the plastic replace every two years. I do not want to do this much work so I asked my local mech and he said he would do it if I get the parts. I found a pan from Autozone (Dorman product) that says it is for my truck. I talked to them about the oil pick up needing to be shorter. Ford shows the LK4Z6622-B is for a 2018. I am concerned about the different pickup b/c Autozone and Dorman don't show any info on needing a different pick up. If I put the wrong thing in it could result in a blown engine. I'm hoping you could help me with making sure these parts are the right one. Thanks in advance. Ronnie

You would be lucky if you found any shop which did more that wipe the pan with a shop rag before they went around the pan with the cheapest sealant they could buy and bolted it up to the block, after letting the block drain overnight, then hitting it with some brake cleaner and wiping it dry. It makes me glad that all I had to do on my 2000 Expedition when I was under it changing the trans filter was to wipe off the steel oil pan with an old rag to get the tiny bit of oil seep off of it. With no road salt use here, there isn't a bit of rust under it except on the unpainted drive shaft.

With this extremely poor oil pan design and the prone leaking issues (for 3.5 eb motor in 2017 and early 2018 F-150's), Ford should step up to the plate and issue a TSB on this major engineering design fail. Can't imagine the $$$ expense at a shop, and getting it done correctly as Brian did, to have it done. Pretty tough job for a home driveway repair.

It’s too bad we can’t just get a metal bottom half with captive gasket. Taking the truck apart to replace the top half just isn’t worth it. Apparently Ford RTV sucks and they didn’t have time to let it sit for 1 hour finger tight and then torque and let cure for 24 hours before filling with oil.

It blows my mind that ford has sold millions of f-150s,let alone 3/4 of a million in the last year and they seem to get less reliable every year. Seems the profitability outweighs all their problems

I hope to not give any ideas, but I am surprised that the oil pan is not bolted to the transfer case. Why Ford?

Has Ford offered any reason why they went to a plastic oil sump bolted to the oil pan?? It seems like Ford should have known that there would be problems. Trying to save money??? All the best to ya'.
