I'm very tempted to take a chance on one of these used BMWs. Because honestly, ALL manufacturers except for maybe Toyota, are having major drivetrain failures or overall quality issues. And I don't want a noisy Toyota. These X5s are particularly gaining a reputation for being pretty reliable.

They are. I too am eyeing one for myself. Either a used 2016 or 2017 X5. With any car, if you stay on top of the maintenance then you should be fine. They're quite reliable from the research I've done. I wouldn't get a 2023 model.

I have a 2016 35i Individual. Best all rounder out there in the used market. Excellent value once original owner has eaten the depreciation. A few tips if you're looking to buy a used one. 1. Make sure service record is mint. 2. Swap out the run flats if they're still on. 3. Swap out a few plastic pipes. 4. Flash tune it. You will not regret it.

I have never owned a BMW, or any German car, can you elaborate on "swap out a few plastic pipes". I am looking at buying a 2018 X35i. Are these things I should just replace as preventative maintenance when I get the car? when I buy used cars I always do things like oil change, air filter, cabin filter and transmission service. But I've never changed any pipes or hoses.

@CoachClyde The main thing to replace is the charge pipe. It's cheap plastic and often fail. Aftermarket pipe is relatively inexpensive, under $200. Some people also replace the downpipe, which I did only because I tuned it. These are great SUVs in my opinion.
