LMAO I'm no where near a Ford fan. I have an AAS in Automotive Technology, I've worked on more cars than you'll ever see. Chevy and Ford both have cheap, shitty interiors on their low end models. They source a good 80% of the car from countries like South Korea. In fact, the Chevy Spark and Sonic are both lend/lease vehicles from South Korea.

I own a 2014 cruze TD and absolutely love it. I traded in a 2011 Cruze RS for it. Unlike the gas version the diesel gets better MPG the faster you go. The torque is amazing and no turbo lag like on the gas version. I now have 37k miles on it and only added DEF twice. The DEF only costs $11 at Walmart. Servicing could be pricey but I'm a DIY guy so it only costs me $40 about every 6k miles. I average 45mpg i recently took a 900+ mile road trip mostly freeway and averaged 57 mpg! It's the slower in town stuff it doesn't like. Don't buy if you don't drive the freeway. If you give diesel a chance you will love it too.

I've had a 6 speed manual Cruze for five years. I notice that a lot of guys do not know how to correctly drive a manual transmission. They're tearing out 2nd gear and burning clutches. I will be doing a You tube video on how to smoothly shift a 6 speed, so that your passengers will love you, and your transmission and clutch will last the life of the car. Wait for it !

Sorry for the late reply! Mine is an automatic.. Now that I have driven it for 3000 miles I am getting around 42 MPG avg driving 75-80 MPH on the freeway. If I reset my fuel meter and drive home doing 70mph on the freeway I can get 54 MPG but going to work the same route I get only 47 MPG avg doing the same speed. Even if you drive this car 80 it is always getting above 40 MPG it seams. I am pretty happy with all of it beside the auto shutoff at stop signs.

A week ago I purchased a 17' Cruze diesel with the auto. I find that "Auto Stop" feature is very annoying and can't be good for various parts like the starter, turbo, etc. Anxious to see what an aftermarket tune can do for my car .
@BoschExxcel7 жыл бұрын
RyanLeeProductions Start/Stop has been available on cars here in Europe for years and I've never heard of it causing premature wear to the engine (starter motor and battery are heavy duty to cope with it) but I find it suits manuals better. My Focus has stop/start and it only works if you are in neutral and not touching the clutch, car restarts as soon as you press the clutch, so no delay in moving off. My dad's Range Rover has it too, it's an auto and he finds that how hard you press the brake at a standstill determines whether it turns off or not. Maybe when you're stopped don't press the brake so hard and see if it keeps the engine on? Personally I like stop/start as it's nice and quiet without the engine on when stopped.

Well, on your second run, you did shift from 1st to 2nd at 4500 rpm which is probably too late because peak power comes at 3750 rpm. Usually you can rev diesels about 200 rpm past peak power to get the best performance.

You were so disappointed with 60mpg that you had to do it over. I own the first genChevy Cruze 2.0L turbo diesel with 108k miles now. My daily commute was 68 miles one way with lots of changes in elevation and always averaged real world 45mpg highway at 72mph and 31mpg city. I fueled about every 650 miles. Emissions regulations are how our government screws diesel engines. Most people just delete DEF though. If you live in an emissions test area you can still pour DEF in but you have the choice to use it or not. The problem is the DEF requirement makes diesels way more expensive.

@mpgomatic7 жыл бұрын
A diesel Focus would be awesome. I'm wondering how the 1.0L EcoBoost would respond to high octane …
@MDKN227 жыл бұрын
It may perform the same. My mom still has her 1.6T Escape and she had put high-octane in it a couple times to try and clean the fuel injectors (because she was having acceleration problems (she would hit the gas and it would almost shift into neutral and rev up to 4000 when the transmission indicator read D, then after a few seconds it would correct itself and go)) but she noticed that between 87 and 93 octane, it doesn't really do anything. Her old Wrangler TJ had to run on mid-grade. But yeah, I think these turbo engines nowadays should be able to take the high-octane and perform the same... but I could be wrong!
