I love the F-16’s unobstructed pilot visibility provided by its one-piece frameless “bubble” canopy. 👍

You know what sucks, when you are done flying and retire from the military. Nothing will ever compare to the amazing thrills you got to experience and get paid to do it. Thanks for serving this country and I hope you stay safe!
@glennoc85853 жыл бұрын
I've met combat pilots that said that they were happy to move to civilian airlines. It's like everything you get used to it and the thrill becomes just routine. If you ride a rollercoaster ride everyday for a year you'd get bored and feel less fear. Some ex sir force pilots go on to the acrobat red bull type racing, if they seek that adrenaline flying.
@erichoffman22433 жыл бұрын
You're exactly right! I flew Apache gunships for 16 years. I retired 6 years ago and have been flying civilian EMS ever since. The difference is night and day. Flying the Apache was an amazing experience and a total thrill. I never got tired of the Apache and still miss flying it. Flying civilian EMS can be summed up in one word....BORING! I could transition over to the airlines but that looks even more boring. Like GlennOC here said, if you want excitement and/or adrenaline flying there are very few places to look other than air racing or maybe aerial hog hunting down south.

A couple of months ago, I dropped into a FBO and none other than the Raptor demo pilot was there waiting for his slot at a nearby airshow. He was talking to a couple of guys there and was saying that, as much as he loves flying the Raptor, the most enjoyable flying he does is buzzing around the Alaskan wilderness in a Super Cub with no doors. Maybe he was just trying to make us mortals feel better about the fact that we will never fly the Raptor, but I think I can relate, kinda. By far the most fun flying I've done (and I've flown in some gnarly machines) was in open-cockpit ultralights.
@crazyralph63862 жыл бұрын
@@erichoffman2243 I felt the same when flying Astar and 500’s in the wild, to EMS. Like going from a hardcore Metallica listener, to Barry Manilow Lol!! But don’t let BORING(monotony) turn into complacency. EMT is probably the most dangerous profession in helicopter ops, and it’s a lot harder than most people think. Flying in blackhole illusions, shooting IFR approaches, shift work, flying through weather and not around it, while landing near power lines on a daily basis, is quite challenging, but like you said, not as thrilling as scud running at 150mph with the world at your feet? It’s even more challenging when you’re single pilot without NVG’s!

José María Córdoba airport. I did a stop over in my way to Bogotá in 1977. I just wish the FAC (Colombian Air Force) would get F-16s. But they claim they (Colombian govt) don’t the budget to purchase them. At minute 14:07 notice there is BIG bird that flies by the canopy. That is the danger of flying, and a Demo pilot is not impervious to bird strikes. Wild Weasel pilot patch on the pilot’s left shoulder. Thanks for your service. Semper Fi!

What is fly by wire?
@dingo34323 жыл бұрын
@@casianocruz8378 Fly-by-wire uses directional electronic pressure input instead of a direct physical to hydraulic linkage to the control surfaces of an aircraft. Much like today’s game controllers. This enabled General Dynamics to place the control stick on the right side of the cockpit as opposed to the conventional center placement. The avionics also also corrected for unstable input from the pilot which would compromise flight stability.
