For anyone wondering what his hand signals were for @11:19, that’s for battle damage checks. Each pilot will fly to each side, and underneath to visually inspect the other aircraft for any damage as a safety precaution. His wingman checked his plane, then they switched and he inspected his wingman’s plane.

@@loginvidea I’d have to go back and watch it again. The Navy/Marines have different approach procedures than the Air Force. The navy/marines do a “carrier break” before landing. The Air Force obviously doesn’t land on aircraft carriers, but they still do a “break” when they enter the pattern to create separation and it also bleeds off air speed so that they can get their aircraft into a “landing configuration”. There are max speeds for landing gear and flaps, so they need to slow their planes down to a speed where they can deploy their landing gear and flaps and set up for approach to land. So it’s their version of a “carrier break”. So, short-story-long; I’d bet that they were signaling to do their landing separation break. Look up C.W.Lemoine on KZbin. He flew Vipers in the USAF and then Hornets in the Navy (as a reserve, if I remember correctly). He’s got a lot of really good, in-depth info on his channel. Also, his buddy “Gonky” has a channel on KZbin called “the ready room”, and he’s got a lot of Navy and Hornet related info on his channel. They also do a lot of collaboration videos together.

I was Class 71-01 at Laredo. Finished sixth and since the two fighter slots were gone, I picked the O-2 to be a FAC. Flew 300 combat missions and then became a T-37 IP. Have not flown now in something like 40 years and videos like this bring it all back. I genuinely miss the turn and burn.

Genuinely the best fighter-related video I’ve seen. It’s simple, but all the important flight data is in there. Clean look, high quality. THIS is what youtube is made for. I always wanted to become a fighter pilot growing up, scored high grades in middle school, went to the gym, had great health, and I even did some breathing-technique sessions, watching fighter videos, where you could see the g-forces on screen, and tried to keep up the right breathing-technique throughout the video. Did the same when playing FSX and WarThunder, and eventually got the technique down. Then, at age 16, right before I was supposed to enter highschool, I had a massive seizure and broke my left shoulder, and got diagnosed with epilepsy (which rules out any chance of me getting any sort of piloting license). All dreams thrown right in the bin. Everything I’ve worked for, now useless. That’s why I praise these videos, because this is as close as I’ll ever get to that dream. I'm English. I remember back in 1989, I was driving in the Lake District and a Tornado very clearly used me as a target as I drove down a road perpendicular to his flight. The timing of him going overhead vs my position on the road... he clearly practised either a bomb drop of a strafe. It was pretty cool tbf. Now THAT was Low Level Flying!! There was another time one flew over my house (Kirkby Thore), from the blind side and I actually squatted and ducked, it scared me to death! No joke, it can't have been more than 80ft above the roof, I could clearly see the markings on the tail and wings. TLL in the Lake District was actually AMAZING in those days! I'm not sure they would get away with it nowadays.

I'm ten miles due west of Nellis. When they go out to play, there are several paths taken north. When they're coming back to base, they tend to fly over my house. LOVE it!!! Everything in the USAF inventory has gone over! B-2's, F-everything, C-everything. Just WOW. B-1's heading back home in Kalifornia at dusk with the afterburners going! Noisy but WOW.

Great Video. Loved your book "The Art of Clear Thinking" and have shared it with many I'm mentoring . My first low level flight in west Texas my back seat instructor said I was too aggressive. I said we were well above treetop level, and he said those weren't trees, that was sage brush. I was below 100 feet for the entire run. Most of my class were "Zoomies". I was one of an handful who were not. Everyone wanted a fighter slot. Only two got one, the class leader whose father was a general and the other to my roommate who married a wing commanders daughter. I got the only tactical C-130 which disappointed me until several missions would have made great movie fodder if tales could be told. Most got tankers, bombers, and FAC slots flying aluminum speedbrakes. Lessons learned have provided me a lifetime of rewarding opportunities. I only realized in my late 70"s why I was repeatedly placed in leadership positions while desperately trying to back fill technical gaps. It's not what you know. It's the ability to see clearly, be present and execute. There is little in life requiring more presence than flying 600+ mph 18 inches (sometimes less) from another aircraft. You're not going to worry if you have enough quarters for the laundromat.

No, the A-10 needs to disappear. Its a threat to its own pilots and at one point it was a threat to friendly ground troops too. Its a plane that has no real place on a modern battlefield fighting against peer adversaries. It shouldve been canned in the 90s. And as much as I love the F-16, it's getting a bit up there in age. Its good we're already producing such an advanced replacement.

And as for foreign allies, they only get handled a lesser F35... Gen 6 might be much better but it's gonna take a long time for the fleet to ramp up... (IMO those should still be called gen 5.5 cos gen5 is so limited to only F22 and F35, sans the adversary birds...)

Great video. Brings back some good memories. Retired from air force in 1982 and was stationed at general dynamics in 1978 and 1979. Worked right in the plant and watched the first f16 take off and fly around. Tail number was 78001. I now live in aurora, CO and have Buckley not far away. Still like the sound of the f16. Have lots of lithographs from when I was stationed at GD. Enjoy your career. My 20 years was the best part of my life.😊

Here in Wisconsin, I used to have the C-130’s doing low flying over my property. I absolutely love it. I’m sad they don’t do it anymore. Being a former Marine, I painted “USMC” on the roof of one of my buildings (I own an old mink ranch and 30 acres). They flew so low they would rock the wings at times when I was waving! Very very cool!!!!

1st glance at me being a African American 42 year old who was raised in low and middle class communities. I was always into aviation military especially. I was always watching Wings and Wings of the Red Star on the Discovery channel. Born and raised in Hampton Va home of the FF 1st fighter Wing at Langley, I remember when the Gulf War started . The 1st aircraft that I seen deployed was the F-117s and C-5 galaxy and C 121 Star Lifters. And the F-15s from the 71st Hat in the Ring. Great video! I fly this same route out of Nellis in MSFS. I know real-world you are supposed to stay above 3000 AGL until the Kern Valley airport, but I love ripping around the corner and crossing the lake on the deck! Cool that you can see the Needles...I usually fly between the peaks! I take the Jedi Transition over through Star Wars Canyon...loop back around several times and then RTB back to Nellis. It's a fun flight! Thanks for sharing what this looks like real-world!

There’s been so many debates on whether or not they still allow low level flying through Star Wars canyon (specifically Jedi transition) due to 2 fatal F-18 crashes in 2019 and 2021 I believe. @@Hug_life So, they still are not able to fly through there. This video shows part of the Sidewinder low level route which doesn't run through Star Wars canyon. The actual canyon run is part of what is called the JEDI Transition, which runs from the West side of Sidewinder and meets back up with it on the East side.

I used to camp and fish along the upper Kern a lot and was lucky enough to see an F16 come by low and slow, hugging the canyon walls. It was amazing! It looked like I could have lobbed a baited hook high enough to snag it! I bet you guys have a blast doing that!

It demonstrates that all could be pilots, but not all pilots could be fighter pilots. I suggest reading the book “The Hunter Killers” by former F-16 Wild Weasel pilot Dan Hampton. Among many things, he discusses the challenges of putting a bomber (B-52) pilot into a fighter jet and then try to train him as a Wild Weasel pilot. Not everyone can talk, walk, chew gum, and juggle 10 softballs in the air at the same time. Semper Fi!

Thanks for this session. I've worked pilot training system from 1990 reaching back to the ACMI and working some on TCTS 2 though retired early this year. It was excellent seeing a flight from the pilot's perspective and this was the first time I've actually observed the wing flexing though I've helped work those problems with the pods. I was on the ground level view of an Air Force Pilot doing this. In Garner Valley / Anza CA (between Hemet & Palm Desert) on Hwy 74 & Hwy 371. I was buying fruit from a roadside vendor at this corner on a Saturday afternoon. I hear a spun up jet coming from behind me - were in a long valley parallel to Hwy 74 & hills on both sides - the jet passes us SO quickly that I glanced over my left shoulder & saw him breeze by in & out of sight maybe 1.2-1.5 seconds, not 130' above our heads & off to the side. The vendor was looking away for my change, looked up & said "what the heck was that !?!".... I'm like, the lowest fastest Fighter Jet I've ever seen...sorry you missed it LOL

Get your CDL and become a “ground pilot”…I assure you that dealing with and experiencing/navigating all of the idiots we deal with everyday will give you a newfound respect for what we negotiate on the daily. I wanted to be a fighter pilot after high school and the recruiter told me I was too short to fly the jets to reach the peddles and should join the marines instead. Until this day i still dream what if I became a fighter pilot…😊. Thank you for your service sir! I envy your work!

Nice flashback to my F-111 low level flying days from Mtn Home AFB. Excellent footage and commentary. Thanks for sharing. (P.S. I've been at 600mph at 50 feet off the deck - for about 15 seconds - and 600mph around an entire low level route. It's great fun! But as you say, the time between everything being okay and it all ending is very short. Awareness required throughout.)

Nice video. I've seen our local A10's fly lower altitude over our property here in Az. and the A6's out of Whidbey fly the Columbia River well below the rims. When I was in the Navy (1976) I saw a couple F4's trying to tailhook out to sea...

Visiting with the Camera, making all the course corrections on target, visiting about the Landscape and Life Goals, doing checklist stuff(you see his leg notebook at one point); Never misses a Radio call and appears to have Great Situational awareness as Wingman slips in alongside(then all around him).. All zooming along at speed and for part of the Flight, really low.. Never broke a sweat or got excited.. Just a bit at the last when his head was on a swivel he was a tad quiet(watching for that Mystery Whatever thing/craft around a Landing Strip) This was SO Satisfying to watch.. Airforce, Navy, Marines, Army, Coast Guard…. Every pilot, weapons officer, naval flight officer…. Is trained hard to be steady as a rock. Try landing these things at night on a moving aircraft carrier in high seas and heavy rain. We do this stuff every day. All about professionalism and training.

Flown out of L05 Kern Valley airport many a time in my RV-12, upper right side at the end of Lake Isabella, and have heard you guys fly over quite high, many a time while having breakfast there. Get into Joshua controlled airspace a bit every time I fly that way. Lot's to learn and do when you're just starting to fly with a Sport Pilot's license in a Van's RV-12 at 64 years of age. Thanks for all you do and for serving your country. Only the best make it to fighter pilot training without washing out. Very enjoyable video, I'm pretty much limited to 12000 ft, so I don't get to see the Sierra Nevada Range like you showed in this video. Great stuff, very captivating, subscribed.

I love how casual he talks to the camera, right from take off and all during the maneuvers. Interrupting to answer radio calls, seamlessly picking up again right after, all while being 100% aware of what point in the planned mission he is. It shows that the work load of aviating in this situation is super low for him. It only makes sense, but I think most people never stop to think about how this is not self-evident that somebody can do that. You can never have too much space available in that mind...
