The sunroof is something I did not want on my F-350 truck. But I wanted LED headlights, and Ford only lets you get those on the KR in a special configuration without requiring you to add that on. So I specifically special-ordered my truck from the dealership to get just that. I figured it would be worth the 10 week wait to get that. The sunroof just had too many potential problems. Not just on these Ford trucks, but in general. I like not having to worry about the drains clogging, or the mechanics failing. Not to mention the better insulation when things get cold up here in Alaska. Always appreciate the videos man. They helped steer me toward buying my own Super Duty. As of now, it's on a rail car heading to the west coast to transfer to a barge for the ride up north. I can't wait~

You all are much better men than I,, I would be very upset , but I am glad it was a simple fix for you. I have stepped away from several manufacturers for too many of these annoying design flaws across many models. In the end it just is too annoying and come time for trade ins, too many people know that those manufacturers models have design issues and your trade in value is torched.

Thank you for posting this. Not just a Ford issue. I have a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee that did the same thing for about 3 weeks before it went away on its own. Drove me crazy as I knew generally where sound was coming from and could make it stop with one of my kids applying pressure to the sunroof while we drove. Sound has since gone away but had been debating asking dealer to investigate during first service (didn’t really want someone poking around randomly trying to fix and then messing up other things in process as you described). Now that I’ve seen your video, I will Attack on my own if/when it returns. By the way, my sunroof looks EXACTLY like yours so I bet Ford and FCA are sourcing from the same manufacturer. Thank you so much. BEST video I’ve seen yet on this issue. Well done. Subscribed!!

Great job trouble shooting. I personally wouldn't do only one or two, even if that fixed the noise problem. I would carefully do all 6 of the screws and never have to worry about it again. Of course you shouldn't ever have to worry about it but this is reality. I live in Phoenix and due to the heat (120 degrees in summer) I didn't order the sunroof on my F350 crew cab, diesel dually. I felt the heat would be too much for any sunroof. I'm really glad I didn't but not just because of your video. I am glad I did it because of the constant heat in the summer. 120 degrees is very, very hot. I keep my vehicle in the shade but it still has to be driven and I didn't want to ever have to worry about heat transferring into the cab or any issues like you were having. Great job on the fix and excellent video. Thanks very much. Well done.

I had a 1995 Ford Bronco with oil can noise coming from the roof. Ford authorized their dealers body shop to cut off the metal roof and replace it. Since this work was already approved by Ford I had no trouble convincing the shop manager to allow me to experiment with it first. I removed the headliner and drilled holes up thru the roof so I could inject Great Stuff into the voids. I completely filled the void from left to right, front to back off the metal roof. It took 3 hot summer days to fully cure. The forth day I started diving the vehicle again and the sound was eliminated. I allowed Ford to take pictures of the process for their records. We never had this problem return. The odometer quit working two years prior to me giving up on this vehicle with the display constantly showing 330,000 miles. So it truly was a permanent fix with a lot of other benefits that were appreciated. Shorter cooling and heating cycles and a quieter cab.

Toyota Tacomas have/had a problem of the dash rattling when brand new. Toyota never admitted to this problem but over time, the rattle disappeared. As far as over torquing that screw, I have found that by using Goop glue on screws, whether it's wood, metal, plastic or whatever, it helps hold the screw in place without having to really crank down on the screw. I have used Goop glue on screws on plastic objects on my van, screws on the bunks of my boat trailer and even lag bolts that always got loose on the wooden frame of my garage door brackets.

There was a time when vehicle interiors were so noisy, poorly made and normally filled with all kinds creaks, squeaks, crunches, rattles, engine, road and wind noise, all the noises would drown each other out. It's nice having modern vehicles with tight, quite, well insulated interior's, but one of the problems is, if there is any defect that causes some kind of squeaking, creaking or rattling, it becomes way more noticeable and drives you crazy.

I had an insurance claim on a Ford suv. The owner was driving down the interstate and suddenly the panoramic sunroof shattered. Good thing the had the inside cover closed. Dealer said it wasn't covered by warranty and had to be done by an object. I met the owner at the dealer. Googled the problem and others had the same thing happen. Printed the info and gave it to the dealer and the covered it.

My brand new F150 developed a strange 'chirp' when turning the steering wheel (at about 1,000 miles or so). Some garage door lube sprayed into the area where the steering column hits this firewall fixed that. That said - one of the reasons I didn't go for a fully loaded truck (I went with the STX with a tow package and rubber floors) was so that I didn't have issues with things like sunroofs, extra lights, and so on. Of course, I do miss some of those things (my last vehicle had them), but over all, I'm very pleased with the truck I got. Sounds like despite the issues you've had, you're otherwise happy with it.

Hi Big Truck RV, I purchased a 2017 F450 Platinum less than 2 months ago and I have a water leak in the roof. It runs from the right back of the sunroof and along the right side of the panoramic roof. Been back to the dealer and it still leaks the same as before I sent it in. I really wish I had got one with out the sun/panoramic roof. I have been over a month trying to get it back to the purchasing dealership. This is my first Ford out of the last 6 trucks I have owned. 5 GM 1 Lexus, 2 sunroofs no leaks. This is by far the most expensive. I love the bells and whistles but this leak and poor service kills it.

The truck is a good looking truck and I wanted the 450 model for heavier work and comfort. GM did not offer a 45 series chassis like the ford so I stepped out to try the Ford...Definitely, a nice truck and I fell in love with it the first day of testing it out.

adrian norris: Hello Adrian. Sunroof leaks are pretty common in all cars. I too was a Lexus owner (actually 8 of them over the years). Many people don't know that Lexus vehicles do not "seal" around the sunroof per say. They use a drain channel that divers water away down he A Pillar and under the passenger floorboard. Ford uses a similar drain as well. All manufactures do this because they know that there is always a likelihood that their sunroof's seals may dry up and not prevent water from passing. My suggestion would be to sit inside he truck, have a friend soak the top with a hose. Fine exactly where the water is entering from. Then apply a small amount of Rubber protectant to the effected area once dry. This will help make the rubber more pliable and will probably fix the problem. Sunroof leaks, though a pain the ass, are usually pretty easy to fix. I know the truck should have this issue, but I find it far more convenient and timely to do a repair like that myself. Plus, it educates me on what to do next time I have an issue, but not access to a dealer.
@BTBRVReviews7 жыл бұрын
It that doesn't fix he problem, you may have the back glass sitting a little to low and holding water at the back seal until it builds up. In that case, you can adjust the brackets (in his video) by loosening them and pushing upwards on the panel while someone retightens them. Keep in mind that you may develop the creaking noise this video was created to fix.

My brothers 2015 F150 had a problem where the seal would stick and make this huge bang noise when opening the sunroof after a couple days and track has broken but since the lease is almost up he is going to leave it until he turns it in, doesn't want to be out of the truck for 2 weeks. I have a 2016 that has the same noise as this super duty and was making the pop noise when opening it after a couple days. I use to work at the dealer and saw the tsb. I know it's the seal on my truck not whatever bracket you lined in this video. I cleaned the seal and roof opening and put a super thin layer of silicone dielectric grease on the seal and roof panel and it's good to go. I would assume that the firm suspension on the super duty trucks would only amplify the cab flex causing the concern. This is only a problem on the Aluminum body cabs that the F-150 - F-550 now share. Once my lease is up I'll be purchasing a used 2014.

@jimcameron98487 жыл бұрын
I won't consider a sunroof option because of these kinds of issues, however, I genuinely commend you for you grit in fixing this. The next issue you might have concerns the seal stripping around the exterior sunroof frame - it is the pliable rubber material that affixes over the steel frame and has a "U" shape cross section. On the 2008 and more recent Expeditions that sunroof rubber seal was similar to the interior window frame seal that had composition issues; that it would loose its form and grip in hot weather over extended periods of time (again, it is a long rubber strip with a U side view to insert over the frame). Those solutions can and will be fixed because the volume of sales in hot climates is increasing. I live in southern Arizona and recorded pavement level heat ( at 18 inches above) ground in late June was 142 F. If you want to get rich, start developing extreme heat and temperature resistant rubber compounds! Saludos, Jim

Those tabs usually aren't what causes the noise, it's usually the seal around the window itself rubbing against the roof opening. Fix is to lube the seal. I usually soak a shop paper towel (the blue ones) with Liquid Wrench Cerflon Chain Lube, jam it between the seal and the roof, and use a small screwdriver, a pick or a windshield tool to run it around the seal. Noise gone. And these are the exact same sunroofs as the 15 and up F-150's have, so subject to all the same issues.

That is how any large corporation makes their money. Look at Caterpillar or Komatsu, they don't make any money off of a single sale of a 400,000$ machine. They DO make money off of your 500 hour service intervals for fluids and filters, or your undercarriage rebuilds every 5000 hours, or the replacement bucket teeth and cutting edges. Do you really think one tooth for a medium sized excavator bucket costs 300$ to manufacture? Well they don't lol, and the manufacturing cost if a can of factory matched spray paint sure as hell ain't 9$ lol

Mine is at the dealer for the second time for this. Now they say they can't duplicate it. After the first fix they said they would go with the 2nd step in Fords process, now I am getting the runaround. Two separate problems with this truck (2017 F250 platinum), two separate dealers and both times they acted like they had no idea what I was talking about, I've had to show them both TSBs. Ford has had my truck 3 separate times totaling over 2 weeks now. And not one issue has been fixed. One tech told me I would have to take the tires off the wheels if I wanted my center caps back on the rear wheels after he rotated my tires. I've always liked ford but the customer service is ridiculous for a vehicle that has 76k sticker price.

You may want to put something like "fix rattle noise in ford tuck sunroof" in the description. It would help people find your video to help them fix it and may help grow your subscriber base.

Ford's twin panel sunroofs are notorious for noises or leaking. Unfortunately depending on what option package you get, you can't avoid it.

Is there anyway you can show a close up shot of the tape/foam and where you placed it? Having this issue on my 2017 f150 and it’s driving me crazy. I don’t trust the dealership for stuff like this because they always want to replace more than is actually needed and that still usually doesn’t fix the problem. That’s not just with ford but all dealers imo. I’d rather fix it myself as I’m pretty ocd about this stuff.

Hmmm... I'm on my 4th F-350 w/sunroofs and have yet to have any issue whatsoever.. In my part of the country (WI) we don't get much sunlight in winter and - since I'm a bit seasonal-disorder affected, I doubt I'll ever have a truck w/o a sunroof.. In winter, the shade is always open . Excellent video though - so IF I ever get a noise issue like that I'll know what to do.. Current truck is a '17 model..

I'm wondering what your opinion is of the new Ford Raptors with the V-6. Are they worth the money?

Hard working people pay over 70k for a truck like this and they do NOT have faith in the Ford service department to repair their trucks. Absolutely pathetic!

nice videos, thank you... would you say, given the choice on a 2019 F-250 to avoid the twin panel moonroof?

Yep that math is off my friend. 100 bucks of gas it should be. Twice is still 200 bucks. Not sure how it could be 400 bucks. But glad you could figure that out. I have a funny wind sound in my wife's escape. She doesn't even hear it but I do after 60 MPH. Faint like stereo static almost but it's some weird air noise somewhere windshield area, could even be coming out of defrost vents. Wish I could narrow it down but just can't figure out exactly where. Good thing I don't drive all the time. LOL.

I wanted to get your input. I have 2012 F250 6.7. I am in need of new tires, the current tires I have on the truck are Toyo Open Country M/T. Since these are a mud tire I only got about 30,000 miles out of them. I do a lot of off road driving for my job but also a lot of highway driving. What is your thoughts on the BF Goodrich A/T Ko2 or the tires you just put on your truck? I had been looking at the Nitto A/T because I hadn't seen the Evo before. Thanks

I work at one of the busiest dealerships in all of Canada, we are a Semi truck dealer and i can tell you first hand that a lot of things made now have rattles and fitment issues, the Biggest issue is not that we cannot find the problem, its who is going to pay the bill if we do not. We can only claim 1hr for a no fault found, Outside of that we do not get any support for trying to dig into issues. If we spend 6 hours looking for a water leak or a rattle and do not find it, there is no warranty part to claim and the company simply will not compensate us for the work done, because in reality we did not do any "work" we did not find the issue. This is why when you take your new cars to the dealership for something that is breaking and not broken it never gets fixed. I'm in no way saying i agree with this, but i understand. Could you imagine the free for all that would occur if they just let you spend countless hours ripping a car apart and than paying for it? they would go bankrupt. From what i have learned, your best bet is to speak with the dealership, explain that you are on board and you are ready to figure out the issue with the risk of having to pay for it out of pocket. Then when you do find the issue you submit your bills to "insert large corporation here" for your money back. That is how you get things done. Great Video on this fix by the way.
