2017 FREERIDE 250R "1 YEAR LATER"

That’s a shame 2017 having that starting problem. I thought KTM fixed that problem on the 2017. Guess not. I have a 2017 250R. Man it’s a fun bike. So light and loves to climb hills.

My friend is an ex mountain bike rider. He said no foot brake is no problem for him. Weird huh 🤔 all hand brakes work for him.

@0:43 that’s what i was looking for! I assume you had both feet down not one on the peg. It’s really a shame that KTM ditched the 2 stroke freeride and now there’s only the 250 4 stroke, but nonetheless its a great bike.

ripmax333 I'm sure the 4 stroke is an excellent bike too. Probably won't have starter issues also! Should fit you perfect with the lower seat. My caddy is also thinking of getting one when it gets here.

Bence Valóczki Thank! The bike has about 115hrs but still runs good and strong. You just reminded me I better check the manual and see when the recommended top end rebuild is. I don't ride it too hard so I sure I'm still ok.

Starting issue: I had the same trouble with my 250 R FR. Check your bendix. After 100 h the bushings were worn out. The bendix wobbled, got wedged at times and the bendix gear was loose. I had to replace the whole unit. I also replaced the inner bushing with a brass one. Some dudes do a wet mod. Nontheless a good bike.

DieCooleSchuleSchiers Schiers Yup I had to change out my bendix and bushings. My battery wouldn't hold a charge too. Double wammy!

@@outlawsvk3052 the bendix was not engaging with the crank. It is the part that's between the starter and the crank gear. It's spring loaded so the problem will ether be slipping or not throwing out and engaging the crank. You also have bushings that holds it in place that wear out causing it to bind. My problem was it slipping. I hope this helps you.

BRAAAP HAWAII So, you mean free wheel. Or is there any difference between bendix and freewheel (as is on my exc 450)? And is this tipical issue of 250R? wearing this bushings? I am deciding about buying so I would like to know what issues this bike have. In your case you had to replace whole unit, or you just repaired weared part in bendix? I hope no needed to half the engine

@@outlawsvk3052 actually there is the starter then the free wheel or free spinning gear that drives the bendix into the crank gear. You can access all this by removing the side covers. My bendix wore out prematurely because I was packing it with grease. You should only put grease on the teeth when servicing it. I believe the bendix will wear out normally and need to be replaced occasionally. KTM does not have the best starting system but is very easy to fix. You will first notice it not engaging when trying to start. You'll hear a zing zing kind of sound. Also there is a starter rebuild kit if the starter has a hard time turning over. It's a good bike you just gotta maintain the system more than other bikes. Bushings need to be checked when greasing and will wear out. The bendix is replaces as one unit about $150 dollars. If it's not the battery it's the sprag clutch 100% It's a one way bearing and only sounds like it grabs momentarily then lets go. Pretty cheap part too.

Dakota Miller it ended up being my bendix (it was slipping) and my battery wasn't holding a charge. Changed the bendix and put a better battery and it feels like it turns over stronger now.
