Fade the lights on fa jing? This is a visual metaphor...?

That was a lighting mishap. Publisher Gene Ching apologized to Dr Yang Jwing-Ming personally. Grandmasters LIVE! did have a professional light crew, but they were unaccustomed to the rhythm of Kung Fu and with a live show, mistakes are bound to happen. Nevertheless, the essence of Dr. Yang's performance was captured.

The "Grabbing Bird's Tail" hands seem too high; these should not elevate over the eyebrow。 This has been a common rule for many gungfu styles; Grandmaster, am I wrong?

I think you're wrong in your understanding of the word "grandmaster". Also, martial arts are alive and forms can evolve. There's is nothing wrong with having the hand past the eyebrow height.

Yes,,,,you are. There is no one definite rule for most things in the martial arts world, so much variation passed down by so many different people. GM Yang has a lifetime of experience so it is a bit thick skinned and rude to make such comments!

Practicing the form and applying it are in different context. Form with "standard" postures is used to build muscle memory with all Tai Chi rules and train the mind. You won't be able to relax if hands elevated too high. Cheng Man-Ching said that your lung and heart will be lifted with elevated hands. It is also a must to pass the form down generations without deviation. Keep on reading: Mr. Yang is not recognized as a legitimate martial artist among Chinese martial arts societies in Taiwan, China and southeast Asia regardless his popularity in western countries where people know little about Chinese martial arts and its history. The lineage of his Tai Chi teachers is questionable. Kao, Tao and Yue, Huanzhi are not listed on the board of Yang family tree. There is little information about Yue, Huanzhi. Most Chinese articles say that Yue is a disciple of Dong, Yingjie. No records show that Yue is an indoor disciple of Yang, Chen-Fu. That is different from what stated on YMAA board. Mr. Yang claimed on his YMAA board that he learned Taijiquan from Li Mao-Ching. That is incorrect. Li is a master in northern style Shaolin, not in Taijiquan. I personally learned Shaolin from Li years ago while was also learning Tai Chi at the same time. One student asked Li what are the differences between Shaolin and Tai Chi. Li said that if you play Shaolin slowly it becomes Tai Chi. What??? Hello!!! In my trained eyes, Mr. Yang's martial art is created by mixing from different styles with the root in White Crane. I learned Tai Chi from one of Cheng Man-Ching's indoor disciples but never became an official disciple of him. I can claim that I'm the X generation of Cheng but my name is never listed on the board of Cheng family tree. Got it? Mr. Yang's Tai Chi has too many flaws like beginners per my trained eyes. He added too many unnecessary movements to confuse people. Never saw him demonstrating Taiji Jin anywhere. The conclusion is that Mr. Yang created his own Tai Chi form based on White Crane. Is it all a commercial tinge lie?
