2017 Gravely ZT-HD deck rattle , Fixed?

I have the ariens apex 60/ same as the gravely zthd. I did a few things on my mower to curb the rattles and it made a big difference. I did to something similar to your video. I also removed the grass chute and placed some rubber bumpers on the underside and reinstalled. I glued a thin piece of rubber on the clutch stop plate where in comes in contact with the clutch, and put some thick felt on the bottom of the seat where the springs hit the seat. I put some rubber washers on the deck hanger bolts. doing these things made a huge difference. The rattles on this mower were driving me crazy. Maybe someday I will post a video. Just have to learn how first. Also thanks for taking the time to post, I’m sure it takes a lot of your time.

I bought a zt hd 52 with 25 hp kohler this morning. I'm looking forward to mowing my 1 acre with it in the spring. I looked at lots of brands, and even with the common problems that may occur (I told my dealer to check for problems before delivering), I still thought the Gravely had the best design. Thanks to you, I knew what to ask and what to look out for. Keep up the good work.

I just took delivery of a brand new HD 44. Same exact sound was coming from mine...only when the PTO is engaged. It's coming from the flip up deck plate. At least thats what was happing with mine. I notice that you have your feet all the way forward off the plate while the PTO is engaged. Try engaging the PTO and move your feet back to the middle of the plate and put pressure down with your feet and see of the noise goes away. When you lift up the deck plate in the rear there is the round bar that goes across and underneath the plate. On either side of the bar you will see where the plate has been rubbing on the bar. It's a small area on both the left and right side of the bar. I seen the rub marks in the vid on yours as well. The fix was easy on mine. I'll try and post some photos on the Lawn site you have the thred going on. Hope this helps. strick

I bet gas and a match would remove the flex seal from the dryer. May want to take the dryer outside for this maintenance.

I just took delivery of a ZT HD 44 yesterday and I'm having what appears to be the same issue. The noise is coming from the left side only when the PO is engaged. I'll investigate today.

Thanks for posting this. I dont think thats my issue as mine makes the noise with the cover off as well. You mentioned at the end though with the clutch being replaced on yours. Would it only make that resonance/vibration initially when you engaged the pto or would keep doing it?

Chad Phillips it would keep doing it like it was out of Ballance and every would vibrate. It was hard to find because every thing seemed like it would be a unbalanced blade, bad spindle, bearing or loose pully. But everything checked out so last was the clutch itself.

Chad Phillips from what I could tell on your video and what I remember it does sound similar. It may be hard to get a dealer to check do to the cost of a clutch. They may not want to take the risk. But Gravely\ Ariens covered mine including labor.

Spoke with my dealer they are going to pick it up tomorrow and they will spend time going through it. I made sure to mention that Ive been chatting with people with very similar noises and that perhaps the clutch was the fix for one of them.

Great video! I'm getting ready to purchase a new HD 44. You said something about the dealer replacing the clutch because it was engaging too hard. How long did you have the mower before that happened and was that covered under warranty ? Is there anything else you had a problem with at all with the Gravely ? I really appreciate your time, again awesome videos, glad I came across them !

Gixxer threeonethree the clutch was almost from day one and was replaced around 4 hr under warranty. Other then the clutch and the rattle that is now fixed it is fantastic. I do have. Sqeek that has started but that is the seat spring And once I shoot it with fluid film it will go away for the rest of the season. Hard to beat the hd for an all around great mower. That sounds great! I'm really excited to get the mower ordered. We just retired a 1996 Dixon ZTR 4421 after 22 years of solid use. Hoping to get another 22 years out of this one :D Will be purchasing the mulch kit fore sure and possibly the Led Light kit but pretty sure the lights will have to wait, they look really sweet though.

Hey Fueled, been meaning to hit you back with an update, I made the purchase of a new HD48 last week and took delivery today! Also talked them into a Led kit at cost, wow those lights are sweet! I'm hearing a couple funny noises coming from around the deck area and am going to investigate it tomorrow. My bet is just as you had on yours with the pto engaged but also some vibrations without it. Im sure a few grommets will solve it all. Love this machine man, cant wait to put it to work! 👍👊👊

@@pilotop6851 If i remember right the salesguy sold it to me for $100 installed. It's such an awesome upgrade. I do a lot of mowing out by the road so it makes you much more visible, especially in areas where the speed limit is 65mph.
