Not necessarily. I rode a version of this years ago before I saw the film. It adds an extra layer of appreciation to ride with the knowledge of the film, but this overlay fortunately doesn't demand a lot of exposition from the movie.

The fact that Nightmare is about two holidays colliding (Halloween and Christmas) is the only reason the movie makes sense for the overlay. Also, from a business standpoint, The overlay takes 2.5 to 3 weeks to set up in August/September (One of the slowest times of the year for the park probably because kids return to school and families are busy,) but their busy holiday "on season" time starts from Halloween to New Years where people travel for the holidays and visit the park. It wouldn't be a smart idea to have the ride closed on Halloween or during the busy season, so they choose to set up in the slow season and cover both holidays that are represented in the movie.

The current soundtrack contains much more of Nightmares soundtrack than it used to. Before if I remember correctly it was based much more on traditional Carols. While it's unfortunate not every tune made it in it could be much different.

Last time I went to Disneyland last year, the Haunted Mansion was closed because they were giving it this yearly holiday renovation AKA Nightmare Before Christmas theme. So, this video makes up for the fact I didn't get a chance to go on the ride. Thanks for uploading. 😃

their was plans for a nightmare ride. Burton said no. This does make since tough. Because Nightmare being a holiday film. It's better not to have a holiday ride up all year round. And the Haunted Mansion holiday does make since. Not realy all the black light stuff seeing how nightmare only had one scene with blacklighted stuff. but still an enjoyable ride.

I actually heard that the imagineer who designed the ride was only doing it for a project during training and it was never intended to actually be built. The thing about Burton saying no is likely just a rumor because we have the overlay in two parks and merchandise in the parks (and hot topic.) It's likely just fan speculation, but many ideas for rides were never planned to be built, just ideas thrown around.

Yes, I visited disneyland last week and I didn't like the changes at all. Haunted mansion has a good balance between cartoony and horror. These changes made it completely cartoony.

jojockful007 Yes, it's been used for HM Holiday for a long time now I believe. But as it can only be heard in a small part of the queue line and it's only associated to PM for fans who know the attraction a lot, it doesn't really bother anyone :p

Actually, there is new stuff this year. Normally it differs in what they add, but during the hallway with the doors (right after Zero's scene), they added more wreaths and greenery. Same goes for the 13-Clock before Madam Leoda's scene as well.

They usually only make big changes every couple years on its anniversary and on things like its "13th year" and such. The years in between usually just have small changes and not large additions.

If they could, they would totally keep it open for Halloween as the Haunted Mansion... But the overlay takes so long to set up, the ride would actually have to be closed on Halloween if they wanted to get it ready in time for the Christmas season. And since Fall/Winter is a pretty big time for Disneyland, it just makes more practical sense to Nightmare it up before things get super busy. So it's crazy, but it's crazy in a practical way. :)

I wish the same, but disneyland is for the locals, which they are used to these changes, where as disney world it is guests from all over the world, and they can't do it there because the mansion is closed for a lengthy amount of time to put the nbc things in and take them out, and people who visit magic kingdom may only visit once in their lives.
