Thanks a lot for explaining it, I have a 2018 Civic Si Coupe, and I had assumed I needed to buy tire sensors, and the dealership I called said I didn’t need them. I have been searching to confirm this on the internet, because I was so amazed by not needing to buy them, and on top of that, the mechanic I went to was still trying to sell them to me. Perhaps he didn’t know about this, or he was trying to cheat me. So thanks to you and Galpin Honda for telling me about this, and saving me a lot of money!

The TPMS system on the FK8 is so sensitive. It happens quite often for me. I heard somewhere that it’s best to reset the TPMS three times on the bounce to get it to fully reset. Not sure how true that is.

all it is doing is reading each wheel's speed relative to the other wheels. If the algo detects something is off, it'll send you a light. Just check air pressures for uniformity, reset, and go on with your day.

I had 3 warnings the day I took my car home when there was no problem. It was 15 degrees out. By 500 miles I had a noisy brake too. I'm hoping it's just excess dust or salt. I'm only going out on days the pavement is clear but some places have salt dust on the roads.

Honda TPMS system picked up 3psi drop in pressure due to slow puncture in one wheel of our CRV. Many issues with corrosion in individual tyre monitoring devices used by BMW. When considering how rare punctures are these days the Honda system is by far the most practical & cost effective.

Thanks for this. I am having issues with the system re-setting after replacing one tire. Tire dealer says it's because the tread depth is different than the other three but, from your video here, I am seeing it should accomodate for that. What else could have gone wrong that I can't get the TPMS to recalibrate? The error message "Tire Pressure Monitoring System Problem" comes on after about 20 minutes of driving (between 45 and 65 mph).

rotate the tires, make sure you inflate them all to the right pressures, and then recallibrate

Late to this party, the bmw M cars show you tyre pressure and temperature, including alerting to punctures. All that is useful to know when leaning on the car. The circumference / speed sensing of a tyre is so simplistic, I'd be embarrassed to admit it if I couldn't feel a corner losing pressure and needed a light to tell me, then again I grew up in the analogue world so maybe anything is better than nothing.

I would have to say having the individual sensor in each tire is more robust than the Honda system. If you have someone who does not maintain their vehicle, then trying to determine which tire has low pressure then this is a detriment to the vehicle owner. But, thank you for helping me now understand why the same system has been used since at least 2010. My daughter owned a 2010 and now has a 2020 Civic. I could not understand why a specific location of the tire with the low pressure could be identified. Of course the Honda system is less expensive for the manufacturer.

thanks flyingato, that fixed it! I think I screwed up, though....I decided to use that crummy air compressor that comes with the Type R,..and blew a crapload of gluey stuff into one of my valve stems. What?!! All I wanted to do was top up my tires; I guess I could have read the directions, but jeez who would a thought they'd put goop inside an air compressor? Needless to say I yanked the thing off my tire, getting goop all over my hands, pants, rim, etc. IMHO they should have just put a little 12v compressor (with a friggin GAUGE!) and a can of fix-flat.

Yea it's a fix no one asked for, I don't want goop all over myself either!!

funny, I like driving the mountains and flatlands in Death Valley in my Type R, and the quick elevation changes always set off the tire sensor. Something about going from 200 feet below sea level to 7000ft and back and forth all day just drives the sensor nuts. The guy at the Furnace Creek gas station told me he has to loan out his tire gauge several times a day for this issue. I find it nerve-wracking doing hairpins with certain-death cliffs when the tire pressure yellow lite is on,..even knowing it's a false alarm, it still tightens the scrotum
