I think your contrast measurement is wrong. This is because this laptop updates brightness up and down slowly when moving from one image to another, I think it takes over 5 seconds to update. So when you measure you need to add a 5 second delay to your black measurement, otherwise your black level will not be measured correctly. Obviously you need to use constant APL patterns or an ANSI contrast pattern. Alternatively you can do manual measures on the ANSI pattern itself once dynamic brightness has stabilized to the 50% APL level. I almost didn't buy this device because of the 800:1 ratio, but when I received it it felt more like 1200:1 and then I realized what was happening with the measurement. You need to correct this and re-upload as this is misleading. Other than that, your reviews are great as usual.

My next laptop! Thanks for the review. Saving my pennies to get it now. Looking for light video/photo editing. To me, that’s the best looking 2 in 1 laptop made in my opinion. I’ve had Macs since 2008. But bang for buck, PC is the way to go for me.

Hey thanks for actually listing everything that this laptop has in the description, been trying to find out for a hour if it has a 4k screen or not. Nobody says if it is or not when they review it, also the 360x line all look the same so it's difficult to tell the one in the review is the one I'm looking at in person.

Lisa why didn't you mention the power throttling limit on this laptop, it kicks in as soon as any stress test is run. There is no thermal throttling because the power limit doesn't allow this cpu to be pushed. I saw you had XTU on this laptop so you must have been aware of this issue...

Dear Lisa, I've heard that the privacy screen feature in the 13 inches model is brought over from the EliteBook line up. Furthermore, I've read the article from WindowsCentral stated that the EliteBook with the privacy screen is equipped with a 120hz panel. Does the new Spectre x360 13 inches with privacy screen feature has the same 120hz panel? It would be quite exciting feature for the Spectre lineup, Thanks.

Need help 1) x360 Envy having 32gb RAM, 500 SSD, 1TB HDD is $1300- 2) option 1 but adding 4K&mx150 it rises to $1800-, 3) x360 Spectre having 16gb RAM, 500 SDD, no HDD, but 4K&mx150, thunderbolt 3 but no HDMI, and no usb type A, is about $1800. What do you recomend? Im concerned about ram, disc, and colour accuracy, and $1800 is too much, but It seems that 4k display is better in colours than 1080p

Dear Lisa. Did you mention the annoying pipe-beep-coil-whining on battery mode? It depends on the brightness level. The brighter, the louder. Destroys the whole thing fmpov totally. Other no-gos: Just a single external UHD monitor possible, externally just INTEL graphics and an extremely sensible coating.

A lot of people complain about "down the line" problems with these laptops (keys, touchpad,). Did you feel anything in that area? Lenovo 920 seems to be the direct competitor but they seem to be selling it somehow more expensive. Is the price difference due to better quality control (basically less problems down the line)?

I would presume you had v-sync on when recording the skyrim video? I am looking for this as an editing/portable workstation/gaming laptop and was wondering if the GPU/CPU combo puts out a generous amount of gaming performance so I wouldn't have to go and buy an external GPU housing and GPU. The newest generation is 15-BL1XX (the x = numbers for config variations). HP currently lists 2 entries for the Intel 8th gen 15" model (one is customizable for RAM and SSD capacity, the other is a quick ship pre-built config matching what we reviewed here).

I just have to say, thank you for doing what you do, in the way you do it. It's so nice to see someone that's really knowledgeable about tech that isn't some 19-year-old guy screaming at a camera, talking fast, and using all sorts of hyperbole. All I want are the facts, and that's what you've given. I was debating on getting a new device to replace my aging Surface Pro 3, and it seemed to be coming down to being between the Spectre x360 (13.3" and 15"), the Envy x360 15", the Yoga 720, and the new Surface Pro. Price was the key reason I eliminated the Surface Pro from my options, and I ultimately went with the 8th gen Spectre x360 15" that you featured here. I found your videos (this one and the comparison between it and the Surface Book 2) after I'd already made my decision, but seeing these videos helped me better understand the device and further solidified in my mind that I'd made the right choice. Keep being amazing!

Lisa mentions that the 15" Spectre doesn't have stylus tilt support but the 13" does. Any idea why this is so? Could the 15" have tilt-support with a software upgrade? And if someone can post a link or two on where the feature of tilt-support is explained I would appreciate it. I tried doing a search on how tilt-support is performed (hardware, software, stylus, etc.) and most of the returns were posts about personal devices not working properly, rather than any explanations on how tilt-support is performed. Thanks.

You should compare this with an ENVY X360 15T-BP100 with the I5-8250U, 12GB RAM, 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD, and 4K upgrade, but exclude the NVIDIA MX150 and stick with the Intel UHD graphics and see how similar the battery life would be to the Spectre. Also, with a rated 340-Nit brightness on both 4K displays, how would the picture quality be on both of these? Being that the Spectre doesn't have the numeric keypad and the ENVY does, what's the difference in the touchpad and speaker size and sound quality?

Hey Lisa ! I have a doubt regarding my purchase. I'm going to buy my laptop in India. I'm confused between these two models: Model 1 i5 8 GB ram 360 GB SSD 3 MB cache 2.5Ghz Model 2: i7 512 GB SSD 16 GB Ram 4MB cache 2.7 Ghz Both have 7th gen processors I'm not a hardcore gamer and will start my college studies next year I like to discover new things on every gadget I purchase. I'm also heading for opting Computer Science engineering next year. There is a difference of roughly 600$ between the two models. So is the i7 required or the i5 is enough for me. Damn thats an interesting device. I cant decide wether to get this one or the Yoga 720. Better GPU vs better screen and port selection

Hi Lisa, You're great info helped steer me to this new laptop. Hoping you might be able to comment on why Photoshop CC Performance Preferences show the detected GPU as the Intel UHD Graphics 620... shouldn't it be using the MX150? The Device Manager lists both the Intel 620 and NVIDIA MX150 under display adapters. Photoshop only appears to detect the Intel 620.
