I have a feeling he was actually really impressed with this car.. He is usually somewhat harsh on Hyundai ESPECIALLY in terms of handling, and the fact that he was speaking so highly of the handling tells me he really did enjoy the car and Hyundai did a good job with this car. Excellent review as always.
@NotARealUTubeAccount7 жыл бұрын
Not really...he just gives credit where it's due. Watch his recent Santa Fe review and you'll see no sucking and he's always bashed their handling
@dylanw94127 жыл бұрын
Exactly! I mean sometimes he comments about interior design (like the Santa Fe), but that's all just his opinion, which he obviously has the right to have. But he spoke so highly of the handling which as you said, he usually bashes, so I think that speaks volumes to what Hyundai has accomplished with this car.

Just put a deposit down on one after driving it, a used low mile 2017. It’s very good to drive. Took it down some winding roads and was impressed by how flat it cornered and how taught the chassis is, also the acceleration is good, it doesn’t run out of breath at high rpms like some of the other sub 2.0L turbo engines. Feels very similar to the Fiesta ST.

Picked one up about 1 wk ago. Extremely impressed with the car. Handling on this thing is superb. Got the 6-speed manual. Trust me get the manual it's really good. Plus it's a little lighter than the DCT. Sticker was about $22,500, got it for a total of just under $25k at $24,600 (tax included). It's an excellent bargain for all that you get. Was also cheaper than the Civic EXT. Puts a smile on my face everyday.

Mine is a week old as well. The stick is a no brainer. I test drove both versions. I think the premium package is worth it for what you get. Especially if you get a good deal. 3 to 4 k off of sticker is very doable. You should be able to get a premium package manual for about 21k before taxes. Nice thing about it is that it doesn't look like a kids car.

@MJT-DA6 жыл бұрын
joe b you do realise from 2003-2011 the mazda 3s end was out of a ford focus right?! Mazda teamed up with ford when their company started to fail. Also hondas and toyotas may have good engines but from personal experience unless its a manual their automatics are garbage. the 2003 Honda civic transmission failed every 50,000 miles that's not even half the cars life... and their 2018 they moved to cvts now the civics have slipping issues when you get on the gas. And lets not forgot the new pilot has the ZF 8 speed transmission FROM A BMW.. I don't even need to tell you the issues the new pilot has. And Toyota's are great and all but they have the most recalls i have ever seen and never feel safe in them because of that. I own a 2010 hyundai elantra with 126,000kms and its still going however my next car with either be a mazda or a hyundai because Honda's are not as reliable as they used to be and toyotas are using tech from the 90s...

mj23bama. Smaller cars with large rims (low profile tires) will normally be louder inside than a midsize car with base rims. The taller sidewalls on the tires isolate road noise and add a more comfortable ride. Thats one drawback of having the better looking large rims, you might gain looks and performance but you lose quietness and comfort because of the low profile tires. No sidewall = no cushion.

I picked one up used with 19K miles on it a few weeks ago to 'replace' my dying E46 325i. Powerwise it seems good, not as refined as my 20 year old BMW, the chassis is okay, not as sorted as the old car.. It has tons more grip, seats are more comfortable, fuel economy is better. It isn't fair to compare this car to any BMW but that is my benchmark... This is a fine daily driver, more fun that most, big enough to take a few folks from the office to lunch or to haul some of the family around town. fun enough to seek out twisties.

@@p_roduct9211 That is a G&L ASAT. So far I've only had to change the oil. I've only put about 11K miles on it. I did do a CRC GDI treatment before my oil change which should help keep valve deposits down. I'm not looking forward to replacing the tires (or spark plugs as it seems they are pretty expensive) It is getting around 33-35 MPG in mostly in town, and I got 44 MPG on a road trip that was mostly 60 MPH country roads with not much stopping. Excellent review Sofyan! Good to see your enthusiasm come through on a car like this. Pretty much how I have felt since I got mine in December. It really is a smiles per gallon kind of car. It can be super fun when you want to hoon, and super laid back too. My brother-in-law has a '17 Civic Hatch, and even he admits he likes the shifter, and responsiveness of my 6MT Sport over his LX Hatch 6MT. People really need to go and drive one of these cars and actually feel one out. This is not like any Elantra that has come before it. It is not perfect, but it is so much more than it ever was expected to be, at a price that makes sense. Also, these motors are capable of making serious power, in the realm of 450+. From a 1.6t Hyundai, let that sink in. Simple bolt-ons will bump it up 25-30 at the wheels, easily. Hyundai could be the new saviour of affordable speed!

This generation is totally different with previous version cause Hyundai hired Albert biermann who worked in BMW for the tune. He worked this car and this is that. Hyundai did great job this time. [Pros] 1. Developed torsional rigidity. 2. Amazing suspension setting. 3. Soooo useful torque power range for street sport driving but not track. 4. That price is really crazy even cheaper than ford fiesta st. 5. Crazy warranty. 6. So quiet cabin. [Cons] 1. 32bit C-MDPS. I really wanted to them make this one with the R-MDPS. 2. Over 5200rpm, power starts drain. 3. GDI engine cylinder crack issues in my country(Korea). 4. Hyundai.

not a fan of Hyundai's, until I test drove the Elantra Sport DCT. What I like about it is mainly the engine, it'll be more fuel efficient compared to the Suv (xterra) I'm replacing and will have the turbo when needed. The design of the car looks premium inside and out, I also like the tech that came with it (infotainment, lane change assist, back up cam etc.) The "Superstructure" is a big plus for me... what I look for in a car is the Safety, Fuel Economy, and Design and I found it all in this 2017 Elantra Sport DCT. So I'm picking up mine within 3 days : ) the only mods I have in mind once I have the car is to plastidip the Front Emblem

@dougn23507 жыл бұрын
416pnoy ... If your car has a 1.4 Turbo you don't have the sport model. You have the ECO version. The sport has a 1.6 Turbo. If the cooling fan kicks on after shutdown its probably normal. Turbos run hotter than NA engines. The computer may kick the cooling fan on to bring down the temp of the turbo mechanism. That's a good thing.

MSRP $26,080 $0 down and no trade-in Taxes, fees, registration (NJ is about $450, for 5 years) and title Total out the door cost of $23,685. I got them down a little more than $5,000 off MSRP. The best I could do on a comparable GLI was $27,550 out the door. And both of these brands depreciate rather quickly. The VW is not worth $4,000 more than this car on any day. Buy the hyundai

robert hoffman he said it could compare but wasn't meant to. He said direct competition is civic sport and Nissan Sentra turbo. The GLI here in Canada starts at 35 thousand. The Elantra sport starts at 24,900. The civic sport starts at 25, 500. Those are competitors.

robert hoffman now that we have the Nissan, the civic, and the Elantra, no one in their right mind should buy a GLI until they bring the price down. I could see a couple thousand dollar premium over the Hyundai because it offers a bit more, but not 10 K.

Test drove this car couple days ago and thought it was excellent all around. Looks GREAT. Styled awesome, great wheels. The interior is neat and classy looking, i disagree about more accents, i like it looking neat and more sort of understated euro. The seats were super comfy but good bolstering and dont look boy racer. The MT was excellent. Heated seats and lots of other content. The power was pretty good but not great. My gripe about the power may be unwarranted based on the price and all the other value in the car. It did have a nice linear pull when I mashed it in 2nd with a few revs. He sais 2900 pounds but hyundais site sais closer to 3100. 201 HP for 3000 plus pounds is only going to give you the feel of decent power as apposed to actually being quick i dont see it doing 0 60 mid 6s. Im used to powerful cars so I may be spoiled. All that said I still may buy one and think i could have a bit of fun with it and it would be an All Around EXCELLENT CAR . The mpgs with the MT are slightly disapointing for a 1.6 but, again it is a kinda heavy car with lots of content and performance oriented so mpgs isnt going to be its ultimate goal. The base MT is crazy value. The MT really is smooth and surprisingly good and makes it very fun in that way. It really is an attractive car and sporty looking while not looking juvenille. All around it seems like a more upclass and expensive car then its price would suggest. Did not get to drive it on the twisty back and mountain roads here in upstate NY. Thats what i want to see in a review or experience myself before i decide what I think. For many people this will definately make an excellent purchase and very enjoyable car. An N car with same seats but a cloth option, no sunroof, no dual climate and other stuff to keep the price somewhat low and perhaps the 2.0t and an LSD would be sick. I also wish you could get the Infinity stereo and Nav a la carte and not pay 2400 for the sunroof (wich is useless to me) and I have no real care about dual climate control in a car I will be driving solo very often. 2400 seems a lot to pay for the extra speaker and higher end stereo plus nav if you dont need or care about the other stuff. The car comes with a 6 speaker system so they/hyundI get to keep the cost of the base stereo and then charge 2400 for the upgrade. Nav is such old tech now and so cheap in the aftermarket it should be free or very cheap with any car that has a screen. The most i would want to pay to upgrade to Nav with the better sound system ( it does sound pretty good and is decently loud when cranked) is 1k to 1200.00, but maybe I am cheap and expect to much for the price point. Overall I give this car very high rating and think it will be actually perfect for certain buyers.

Hey Sofyan. I just watched the Elantra N Line review you did. While it was really quite comprehensive, it doesn't strike me as good enough or enough of a value to justify trading in my 2018 Elantra Sport (base model with DCT). Would you agree that the 2018/2017 Elantra Sport was ultimately a better car for the money (at that time) than the replacement N Line sedan? At this point I'm seriously thinking of holding out for the full Elantra N, as the grins per minute just seem insane from your full review. Thanks as always. Keep up the great work!

Not that bolt ons would do much without a tune, which Hyundai would definitely see. You’ve got a turbo engine covered to 100k, and inter cooler covered to 60k. Make good use of it!

That's my plan for my 2018. Only aftermarket pieces will be cosmetic things. #staystock #keepwarranty

I feel like Hyundai is doing what Honda should have been doing. Good on you Hyundai, you're really building yourself up through Genesis and Kia as well. Slowly but surely, it's really coming around

Hi Sofyan. I was wondering if you'd be making a video on the 2018 elantra gt. Preferably the sport version. I really love the details that you put into your reviews and would greatly value your input. I'm car shopping for my first car that's not a hand me down

Just bought a 2018 MT, I had been cross shopping A LOT of cars. Car will be my grocery grabber and then go to my son in a year. Hyundai excels at the value proposition: you get all the stuff, without all the cost. Trade off: you're not flashy or name brand slave. I've owned Mazda 3 and 6, Focus ST, GTI, and a bunch of stuff not in this discussion. Driven Chevy Cruze, BMW 4 series, Civic SI. The Mazda has the fun BUILT IN, not giant engines but they're just set up well. I like them, they punch above their weight, in both look and feel. I LOVE the torque and the underrated HP of the GTI, but goddamnit I'm not dropping 25k before taxes on a vehicle that doesn't have power ANYTHING, and that has some legitimate concerns about reliability. I'd only buy a used one, but then in three years my son's car would be six years old, and I'm not trying to leave him stranded on the road in his first car. My FOST was fun, but it's mpg was DEPLORABLE, and the fit and finish was just a joke. Fun in Twisties, wish I had it tuned bf I wrecked it 😑 Used BMW very well appointed, but the cost of insurance and maintenance... Not what I want to saddle a kid with. The Cruze was similar in terms of fit and finish, and baked in sportiness. It was company car, and I was really very surprised by driving fun. The Civic SI is probably more appealing for the teenager look, and the gauges and torque are better. But the shifter is chunky AF, it's doable, but not enjoyable. Shifting is a bit blocky, reminds me of the neck jerk I'd get back on my old Mazdaspeed 3 Then I got into an Elantra Sport and the shifter was like fresh whipped butter. It's fucking brilliant. First and second didn't push me into seat like Civic SI, but the actual speed and time were the same. It's like the GTI when it's moving: fluid, agile, confident. I think the exterior look is bland, at least in front and on side, especially in white and red. But the overall fit and finish and the huge grin I had winding that thing in the curves, along with that redonkulous price... That's why I walked out with one. This is just a car company doing good things now. If they ever import that i30 N, my God I wouldn't even blink. Good luck, sorry for long post but I thought some people might have similar decisions 👍🏽

Same reason I bought mine. I test drove all the competition and for the money and fully loaded I might add, it was a no brainer. I actually really like the body style. I guess if your into the boy racer styling like the Civic Si it may seem bland but to me the styling is reminiscent to the Lexus is 300 or 250 which is very cool.

Great review. Thanks for that. Was really curious to see your take on it. From all indications it seems Hyundai has really upped their game here. Nice to see that the engine didn't get rough at higher RPMs and it's great they finally got a multi-link rear suspension. With the new similar numbers out for the Civic Si and it's polarizing looks (in sedan form) this Sport at a lower price point than the Si makes a whole lot of sense. Just waiting on the release of the Elantra GT Sport hatch before making a final decision.

Thank you Redline Review for this comprehensive review! Got mine about 7 weeks ago! :-) 21.5k OTD! W/ Performance Package! It was so low because I insisted on the 6 manual without the performance package, but at the time they couldn't find one without it quickly - so they gave me one with the pp for $500.! Hyundai, in my opinion, are making sensational deals on this and other vehicles. If you're interested at all, get down there and check 'em out! Also, considering the price, the additional features over the competition cannot be ignored. On a road trip from CA to AZ I got 35 mpg avg! Go figure EPA! Scarlet Red w/6M (I've also just added a B&B Stage II ECC chip. Without the chip it is fab-fast - with the chip...well I shouldn't say; it's rather embarrassingly quick and I have to be sure not to drive like an ass. It's nice having the extra hp but I don't drive irresponsibly. ;-) best, R

Does tune void the warranty?

A refreshingly simple sport compact; not need for different driving modes, simple but usable dash, well implemented infotainment (much better than the 'stuck on iPad' trend these days) and above all, an available 6MT that seems to be rapidly becoming extinct. Pricing is nice too; something VW still hasn't quite learned with the GLI.
@MrHav1k7 жыл бұрын
I was going to tune this out until I heard it came with a dual clutch. You can get this fully loaded for about ~6-7k less than a loaded GLI. At that price point it becomes very intriguing. Those are the only cars in this segment that offer a DCT. Hyundai did very well here.

This model is the best. It has better insulation, better performance. And the 6mt is amazing. I regret leasing the 2020 Elantra. Its underpowered, and the road noise is unbearable.
