Liked the Elantra better.. Bettr daily i think.. But miss those LSD on Honda
@SeanLazer7 жыл бұрын
I've driven the Civic Si and the Elantra Sport GT, I'm leaning towards the Si and will probably buy it (if you guys recommend a Honda dealer in the Hamilton/Burlington/Oakville area let me know). Elantra was really nice inside, and fun enough to drive. Infotainment was better and it has some features the sedan doesn't even have (like the huge pano moonroof) but at the end of the day the Civic is more fun to drive. The shifter is awesome, like Yuri I kinda dig the light clutch, and it feels way more race car while still actually being super practical. I also found the seats way more comfortable and grippy, and the whole point of these cars is to have some fun under the speed limit. You guys should get in an Elantra GT or GT Sport if you can, it's nice little car that'll probably check a lot of boxes for a lot of people.

I bought the Elantra Sport 6-manual in Marina Blue. Just bought winter tires for it (Nokian R2 and matte black alloy wheels and weather tech floor liners). Easy to do with the money I saved not buying the Civic. I was originally thinking Civic but I just thought it looked so tacky in the design of the vehicle (especially the back end). I was really trying to like that car but then when I test drove the Elantra Sport, I knew I found my next car. I get many compliments on both the interior and the exterior of the vehicle. I also have a small hitch for a bike rack and with that centre exhaust on the Civic I would not be able to use the small hitch receiver. Many people have stopped me in parking lots and asked what car that is and such. The heated steering wheel in Canada is an awesome feature! I really like how when you shut the car off the needles (tach and speedometer) point straight south. Just looks cool.

I purchased a blue 2017 ES in early 2018 and it's been fantastic. It is the base model so it does not have a sunroof or navigation system but it has everything else I need. The sticker price was about $23,900 but I paid just under $20,000. If you want one, go for a 2017 or 2018 because they changed the design in 2019 and it looks terrible. The ES has plenty of power and gets good mileage. I drove it across the country and was averaging 35 mpg at 75 mph with the A/C on. No better sport sedan for the money! The exhaust sound is awesome and it handles very well.

Has basic Mods like a axel back, wheels and lowering springs. In case anyone is curious. The interior and exterior is holding up beautifully, I do clean it pretty regularly so that helps for sure. One gripe with this car is it should have came with a LSD. Besides that. 7.5-10 would recommend.

I've owned 2 Hondas (and driven 4) in my life. I was a Honda guy. Then I test drove both these cars. The '18 Elantra Sport was the easy winner for me. They're practically identical under the hood (rear limited slip diff being the biggest difference), but I just found it nicer to drive. The clutch - as mentioned - grabs at the perfect spot. The throws are shorter than the Cruze Eco I used to own and didn't feel significantly longer than the Si (I'd previously owned '02 SiR hatch which still has the shortest throws I've ever come across) so that wasn't an issue. Great pickup in both cars entering the highway but the Hyundai edges the Honda in terms of lag. And for me, the Hyundai's cabin just feels more comfortable. I may end up regretting having leather seats (I've always preferred cloth which never gets too hot OR too cold in our ridiculously variable Ontario climate), but for now I'm feeling very much at home in them. Pedals are gorgeous and feel great. D-shaped wheel is a tad slippery, but that may be down to the newness of the car. Proper handbrake is a huge plus, even if it is a bit snug to the driver's seat compared to what I'm used to. Infotainment is incredibly well-designed and buttery smooth to operate. The transition between the base Hyundai OS and Android Auto is seamless, as is using - for example - Maps and Sirius XM in tandem. All that stuff is good in the Honda too, but in the Hyundai it just feels almost intangibly better. Again, more comfortable. Maybe more familiar/intuitive. I can't quite qualify it, but that's how I felt. All of which led to me picking up my '18 Elantra Sport yesterday.

Hyundai Elantra all the way. Unless one is 15.5 going on 16 and wants something that looks like a riced out whatever that is (Civic is ugly IMO), the Elantra is such a better car all around. These small differences that were mentioned doesn't really matter in the real world. The only reason the Civic has the auto passenger window is for teenagers that want to be seen showing off their rice rocket. jk jk... On a serious note, way more car, way better car and looking with the Hyundai Elantra. Here's the biggest kicker. Lets not forget about the Hyundai N Sports line! That i30 Hatch is amazing and folks this is only the beginning for Hyundai/Kia.... Honda and alike has had years of experience in this performance game.... this is Hyundai/Kias first and even with the first product, it's kick@!! amazing.....N series for Hyundai and how about that Kia Stinger. + Of course the killer warranty, high strength steel produced in house by Hyundai (Many % more rigid than the competition) and oh that warranty? Yes, that warranty. It stomps all. Hyundai was right..." Rethink EVERYTHING." -- It has begun... no one is laughing anymore...

I'd say just because people like the shifter in the Si more doesn't mean it has a better gearbox. But as an ES owner, I might be biased. Then again I have a weighted shift knob and shifter bushings installed as well...
@skifree07 жыл бұрын
The bushings probably helped a lot with the short comings of the ES shifter. but when i was test driving them back to back, I would definitely prefer the honda one. It's a very engaging shifter, and gives you feedback when it gets into gear. I just find ES shifter (in stock form), to be a bit too long, and rubbery. The ironic thing is the clutch is RIDICULOUSLY vague on the civic. There is basically zero feedback and you have to know where the engagement point is by travel. It's definitely easier to drive in day to day traffic, but for an Si I it's already not that comfortable, why compromise on the sportiness when you go all in on sporty already
@JTube5717 жыл бұрын
skifree Funny, I drove the Si recently and didn't find it to be as good as everyone raves about. Drove it back to back with a Focus ST and preferred the Focus to be honest. Either way, the ES shifter might not be the best but it's certainly not terrible. The Sentra SR Turbo / Nismo shifter takes that crown.
@TheStraightPipes7 жыл бұрын
+Jason Miller the focus St is definitely more fun
@skifree07 жыл бұрын
lol, I'm also may have a tiny bias as I own the Si (But its a coupe), Never really went back to ford after my nightmare experience with them. Had a 95 escort coupe that basically blew a head gasket and destroyed the engine on the side of the highway. I hope ford has done better in the recent years, But just on a emotional level I don't think I can be happy with one again as for the Si vs the ES. I personally think they are both great cars. And just like the review said either one is a good buy. the ES though is quite a bit cheaper, but when it comes to trade in, you can get much more out of an Si. Cost of onwership I would say they are more or less on par with each other What boiled it down for me is, I personally like the steering rack on the Si more. The ES is just a bit too numb for my tastes (I owned a 13 optima with the earlier electric racks from Hyundai Kia, and they were so numb it felt like a video game). Also the seating position on the Si is quite a bit lower, which I prefer
@SuperPrince10076 жыл бұрын
I'd definitely go with the Hyundai Elantra Sport. It looks so much more comfortable (those Sport leather seats look awesome) and the interior looks much nicer. In the long run, I'd be much happier owning the Hyundai Elantra Sport over the Honda Civic even though there are some great things about the Honda Civic.

Great comparison of two cars that are similar in so many ways on paper. However, worth noting that if you look at one or two year old models, the available used 2017+ Civic Si models are generally $10k more than the available 2017+ Elantra Sport models.

Elantra Sport is insanely impressive. It's pulling 0-60 times between 6.3 - 6.5. Thats just behind GTI manual territory.

If you finance, resale value is a factor.. So for me Honda all the way!!!
@JTube5717 жыл бұрын
Eh, if you keep it for a long time it doesn't matter.

@@JTube571 Resale value tends to indicate reliability. Coincidentally, Honda usually has an edge in that department.

@@BenetonXD 43k hard miles on my Elantra Sport in less than two years. Only warranty claim I've had is a squeaky cooling fan. Before that, I had a Forte Koup that went 26k with zero warranty claims. No complaints from me so far on reliability.
@BenetonXD5 жыл бұрын
@@JTube571 Your comment mentioned "keeping it a long time". To most car buyers/owners in this segment, 43k is still considered fairly low miles.
@JTube5715 жыл бұрын
@@BenetonXD ok then. My mom recently sold her 2008 Kia Spectra to my aunt with over 120k miles on it, which has had no major repairs done on it during her ownership outside of regular maintenance. Still going strong.

I'm so jealous...socialized health care, a non-crazy person running your country and now an M3/m4 yellow-green Elantra. Seriously though, the Elantra is 5k cheaper then the Civic up there? If not for the Type R, I would definitely be looking into getting the Elantra GT Sport (wagon version). That car has a lot more space then the smaller crossovers and way better to drive, and the large panoramic sunroof. That car even tempts me from the Type R but Hyundai has the I30n now which has got to make it's way over to N. America.

LMFAO @ the diarrhea poop yellow comment... Too funny! And to clarify about the wheel dispute, the outer edge of the wheel is called the rim not the whole assembly. Sorry my friend in the glasses (got your names mixed up and didn't want to call the wrong person's name lol) but you're incorrect. Think about a margarita with salt or sugar around the RIM of the glass. Just saying... Love your videos BTW.

@BlazinDumpster6 жыл бұрын
Yup, those are called wheels. You have a wheel and a tire. The rim is the outer “rim” of the wheel. Older two-piece wheel designs sometimes used two different materials, so if you got close up you’d see the difference. Most modern alloy wheels are one piece design.

The rim is the "outer edge of a wheel, holding the tire". It makes up the outer circular design of the wheel on which the inside edge of the tire is mounted on vehicles such as automobiles. I got this from the internet but got to I agree with Yuri, I always remember everyone calling it rims, even games and websites

Rim is the outside of the wheel
@srayandhar10915 жыл бұрын
The outer cover is called the RIm. And rubber surface surrounding the Rim is called Tyre. When both of these put together, it's called Wheel. Any doubt?! ! Lol!
